Rick Powers; Jonathan Metts Interviewed
« on: May 10, 2003, 07:13:50 PM »
Though everyone might want a heads-up on this.

GameCube Advanced has interviewed two Planet GameCube staffers, Jonathan Metts and Rick Powers.  The interviews can be read right here, along with the interviews of Steven Kent, Ethan Peason, and Tim (Cube Europe director).  Plus there are a couple others.

Hehe... Rick isn't going to like having his picture posted...

Interesting read though.  Good find.

Most of those interviews were really interesting to read, especially when you compared the answers given by some of the "mainstream" gaming journalists, like Kent of MSNBC and Mirabella of IGN Insider, to the words of our own Rick and Metts.

IMO, Rick took pretty much all of the questions presented to him more seriously than the majority of those that also answered them, in the sense that his answers to the interviewer's questions were detailed and informative, with a dash of personal opinion, but not so much that it dominated his answers.

Yes, very good find, indeed!

Hehe, there is a thread about this on IGNCube boards too with the same title but substituting Matt and Fran names.

It was a very good read. I didn't read all of the interviews, but most of them. The guy Tim from Cube-Europe had an interesting statement:

"I do know that a lot is going to happen with the GameCube online. I am afraid I cannot disclose any details as of yet. But trust me, PSO is just the beginning! "

Hmm, I wonder how many other site mods/employees know something too but don't want to say.

I actually gave Sean that photo of me to post.  The one he picked was terrible and was beeing squeezed down, so I gave him a much more recent one (taken at WrestleMania).  The problem is ... even though I asked him exactly what dimensions he needed, this one ended up being squeezed on their page too.  Anyway, I'm sure there will be more photos of me taken at E3 this year.  No big deal.  As for looking different in every picture, this year in particular is tricky because I'm losing weight every day.  The pictures taken of me with Billy at NOA are 20lbs. heavier than the picture at GCA, and I'll be another 15-20lbs lighter at E3.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments.  I did indeed take it fairly seriously, because while I do support Nintendo, I think they need guidance right now.  That was my attempt at giving a little guidance.

I can't really comment on what Tim said regarding GameCube's online potential.  As far as I know, Nintendo's not getting into Online themselves any time soon.  That's what GameSpy is looking to help resolve.  As for my comment, well ... The GameCube IS portable.  I don't know why that was interesting.  Slap an LCD screen and battery on it, and it's a portable next-gen console.  Add Broadband, and you've got the smallest LAN party rig you're going to find for consoles.

No offense to Jonathan or anything, but in that pic he likes like a country club polo player or something. It's probably just the shirt (had to look nice for a senior photo or something?), but you guys know what I mean.

I don't see why most people start panting and sweating and crap when the eat spicy food. Most things average people deem "hot" don't even show a trace of being spicy to me...Those wimps.

We were at Denny's Saturday, and TYP said that it was too bad that I couldn't show off my "spicy food eating prowess" in a place like Denny's.  Someone said, "Well, there's some Tabasco here", so I proceeded to slather my Meat Lover's Skillet" in Tabasco.  Heh, that wasn't even a real challenge.
