General Gaming / Star Wars Galaxies Beta
« on: May 12, 2003, 09:09:04 AM »
Ok, here's the deal.  Star Wars Galaxies is currently in their Beta 3 phase, with a few thousand people playing it.  When a beta tester is selected, they receive a CD with a beta key as well as a confirmation e-mail with both a key and a download link.  This is so you can invite a friend to join you in playing SWG.

I've as yet been unable to get accepted into the beta test and so I've taken to grovelling for a "buddy key" to the beta.  If any of y'all receive an invitation to SWG beta (or have an account you no longer use) please toss me an e-mail at baberg1492(at)earthlink.net.  I'm desperate.  Please, think of the children.

NWR Feedback / How is the new server holding up?
« on: February 04, 2003, 09:52:31 PM »
Not only do you have the new forums with just over 300 users to contend with, you also have a Slashdotting to deal with!

So how is the new server handling the load?  I haven't noticed any slowdown, but then again it's 3:00 AM on the East Coast - not many Slashdotters right now...

Nintendo Gaming / Skies of Arcadia - best GC RPG
« on: February 01, 2003, 09:56:07 PM »
Skies of Arcadia: Legends is the best RPG for the Gamecube.  Of course, when the competition is Phantasy Star Online, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, and Lost Kingdoms, it's not very hard to pick a winner in the classic RPG sense.  But SoAL is still a terrific old-school RPG.

All the classic RPG standards are here - strange woman whose origins are unknown, magic-wielders, and the underdogs taking on the evil empire.  But the flair of the game is different from any other games I've known.  It's not hyper-futuristic like FF7, and it's not hyper-medieval like Dragon Warrior 7.  It truly is a land of its own.

I don't wanna start getting this into a review-like format, so I'll just urge anybody who enjoys RPGs to check this one out.  Because it's not especially difficult, I would also consider this an excellent choice for the entry-level RPGer.  This could be the game that hooks you on RPGs forever.
