General Gaming / Re: TechStuff Podcast: The Story of Nintendo

Sorry about the wrong link.  I fixed it.

@azeke - It depends on the episode - how basic/deep they get into the material.  I gave the disclaimer in my initial post that it's basic stuff, but I thought some folks might still be interested.

General Gaming / TechStuff Podcast: The Story of Nintendo
« on: April 08, 2016, 11:18:58 AM »
I thought some of you might be interested in this.  The TechStuff Podcast's last 2 episodes have been focused on Nintendo.  They do not cover unfamiliar territory (for those of you that frequent this site, these forums, and listen to NWR podcasts), but it's still cool.

P.S. - Does anyone know why every post I make has "null null null null" at the end of it (see below)?  I'm sure it's a stupid question, but I can't figure it out.

I wanted to give everyone a heads-up about this really cool exhibit at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY.  I think a lot of you would love to check this out.  Rochester is about a 5 hour drive Northwest of NYC, or about a 1.5 hour drive East of Niagara Falls.  Anyways, this exhibit has been up for a couple months now and I brought my kids a couple weekends ago (we have a membership to this museum) and it was awesome.  This museum already pays a lot of attention/respect towards gaming, but this specific exhibit is only open through April 24th.

The Strong National Museum of Play is also home to the International Center for the History of Electronic Games and the World Video Game Hall of Fame.  If you miss arcades, this is an awesome place to go.  They have a lot of old arcade cabinets and pinball machines.  And BONUS - you get 5 tokens for a dollar.  Sweet deal.

Come check it out!

TalkBack / Re: Major Pokemon Shuffle Update Announced
« on: March 24, 2016, 10:49:47 AM »
I'd have to disagree.  I've been more frustrated with Pokemon Picross.  That's the one I feel you can't advance in.  I flew through the first through "worlds" then started hitting the 100+ picrite paywalls, or the levels where you need a Mega Pencil that costs 500 picrites.  Ridiculous.

With this game (Pokemon Shuffle) I'm on level 225 and haven't spent any money.  You could apply your tactic of being patient and playing daily to consistently advance in this game.  I'd say give it another shot.

I'm not saying 3D World isn't "canon". I loved it.  Beat it at least three times with different characters.  I just didn't feel like it was in the same vein as the others I mentioned.  Not that it had to be, but I was excited to see what that might be.

31
Let's say they don't pull a Twilight Princess (anything is possible this late in the game) and they just say "Too Bad" and release Zelda as a launch NX title.  If they did that, the WiiU would not get a proper Zelda or proper 3D Mario release.

Now that I'm thinking about it - WTF not getting a 3D Mario.  I loved 3D World, but not getting the successor to 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy bums me out.

32
That could be cool.  I'm really interested in how Nintendo will approach Achievements.  If they'll follow what they've currently been doing with stamps on Miiverse, or if they'll have something totally different up their sleeves.  So far their stamps have been earned for making progress in the game (i.e. winning a grand prix in mario), but it would be fun to see what else they can come up with.

Did I miss something... What is the difference between Gold points and Platinum points?  At first I assumed your points were "Platinum" once they reached a certain level (kind of like Club Nintendo), but from the list of rewards that were released in Japan I see that's not the case.  For example, you can get DKC Returns for 320 Gold, but 20% Dr. Mario for 230 Platinum.  Is that confusing to anyone else.  What's the deal?

Has their been any mention of Miitomo being available as a web-app - or is it only mobile devices?

Keep us updated on this!  I was actually going to ask a similar question.  Although, my 3 year old is the reason for my Gamepad concerns.  The dude pushed the left analog stick down into the Gamepad. I pulled it back up, but now there's something loose in there and when you move the stick in circles it kind of grinds.

I'm considering sending it off to Nintendo, but I have no idea how much they may charge.  Buying a used Gamepad on Amazon is like 200 bucks!

Jonny,

I don't think your absence is really gonna hit me until Super Mario Maker comes out next month and I won't hear your detailed, well-thought-out opinions on it.  I've gotten so used to having the pleasure of hearing your thoughts on every new Nintendo game over the years it's going to be so weird and very sad to go through the Fall/Winter release season this year without that in my life. I can't believe you left before Xenoblade Chronicles X comes out!!!

While I look forward to what RFN will be for years to come, your voice will be greatly missed.

I had the same exact feeling!  I will surely missed Jonny's take on the next Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc.  He always has amazing insight.  Hey - maybe he'll do a guest appearance - you never know.  Thanks, Jonny!

Wow - that's a lot of cards.  Are there still rumors that Amiibo cards will be offered at some point for the already existing Amiibo?

Well, the pixel Mario would give John L. a point for his prediction!  He predicted a set of Amiibo for Mario Maker, specifically a pixel series!

Congratulations on the good run!  I always enjoyed seeing your latest additions to the collection.  I have to say that I was hoping your final video would give us a tour of your collection (even in storage).  I think it would be amazing to see.

You mentioned at the end of your video that you can't display your collection because it's so big.  Are you able to display some of it?  If so, where do you display it?

I'm sure this is a ridiculous question, but I'll ask it anyway - Does anyone have an idea as to whether or not there is an upcoming sale next week for the New 3DS XL?  I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I'd like to either this week or next week (before the April 30th Club Nintendo Elite Member Reward deadline).  Walmart has a decent sale this week ($209 for the system + your choice of a game).  I was hoping for a sale on the system (without a game), but I haven't seen one pop up over the last month or so.

When do you guys think the rewards will actually be revealed?  Tomorrow is April 1st.  I know they said April, but is anyone thinking we'll see them tomorrow?  I'm thinking maybe April 2nd, since it's a Thursday and that's when they usually update the eShop and their eShop offers/sales.
