Point of clarification:  According to Capcom you do not need to reserve the game to obtain a copy of the demo.  Some GameStops aren't playing by the rules.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Yeah, you can also get them for free from Capcom directly if you are a member of their 'capcom-unity blog' and request a copy sent to you.

Capcom ran out of demos for that so you have to go to gamestop now if you want a demo.

I ordered one the day you posted about it in the forums here. Do you think I got it in time? I have not gotten a notice about not getting one and it said I would get one.

Being Chairman means you should send one of your lackeys to get one for you.

On a side note there is a new way to get the demo sent to you:

I've got more demos to give out, so comment below asking anything you want about Monster Hunter Tri. If we answer it we'll send you a demo!

Just read this blog entry and reply and you may get one sent to you.

So far the biggest lessons I've learned after the controls are that I love the longsword & I absolutely hate that stupid bird thing.

I went into GameStop today to (among other things) pick up the demo, and not only did the guy not make me preorder the game, he didn't even ask me if I wanted to preorder it.

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but the instructions on the demo only show remote/nunchuk controls; please tell me it will let me use my Classic Controller Pro with the demo of a game built around it.

Yes it will. Supposedly you can look up the control scheme online, but I couldn't find it.

It's sounding like I should switch GameStops on ethics alone.

For the other control schemes you have to look at the instructions on the game's official site. It's a .pdf file though.

So I played the demo and I'm considering NOT buying the game now.

I'm sorry, but that demo disc looks like ASS.  There is no other way to say it. It isn't in progressive scan. It isn't true wide screen. It's just trashy looking.  Final Fantasy 12 is a better looking game and that hasn't really aged well.

I sincerely hope that the retail release looks a lot better than the demo build.  As it stands now I couldn't even make out which monsters were what half the time.  It was just a big grainy mess.

(I took video caps of the demo yesterday and gathered as much)

How LAZY can Capcom be?  First they're incapable of using the IR Pointer, next they prove the game is just a glorified PSP port with the same cutting-edge resolution.

I should cancel my pre-order and reinstate my boycott.

Part of what makes me so mad about this game is that it's "stunning visuals" has been a point of emphasis in almost every preview for the game.

I just received my $10 amazon credit for preordering FF13... was planning on immediately preordered this with that... don't know now.

PS: When do we get to see those captures Pro?

The videos I've seen of the game looked nice enough. What happened between those videos and the demo?

Basically web video is as good as the game looks; unlike Mario Kart or Mario Galaxy, seeing the real game on TV doesn't improve the experience.

I'm going to suck it up and try the demo again soon, but I'm with you guys.

I never thought that this demo would unsell me on a game.

The nature of the demo suggests that solo play is of little value; a slow, lonely, grinding fest.  However, other than a generic "this is not the final product" disclaimer in the bootup sequence, there is apparently no effort to remind you or tease you of the game's full feature set, such as online multiplayer, towns/hunting grounds, and many more monsters.

I got excited when I saw this thread and the enthusiasm for actually setting up weekly times to play, until I saw the 4th page here.  Sounds like the demo turned people off of this idea?  Any club-related, demo-informed input from el senor chairman?

I played the demo about a week ago, took down the T-Rex guy just fine but still haven't beaten the goiter-ized avian necromancer.  Could see how multiplayer would be better, it's tough to chase down a monster when he's limping and can just fly away.  I didn't hate it though, thought balancing the timing of the dodging & attacking/item management felt old-school in a good way.  Would be better with 2.5 times the time limit and 4 times the players.  Was playing on a 4:3 TV without 480p, so I didn't see the graphical hitch in its giddy-up others of you saw.  Is it really that terrible looking?

Wow.  Lotsa hate because of this demo (haven't gotten a copy yet).  Is it really that bad?  Is this why Nintendo hates demo discs?
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.
