Title: Nintendo Direct To Air Wednesday
Post by: Shaymin on April 10, 2017, 03:12:00 AM

A heavy focus on splats and fists

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/44428/nintendo-direct-to-air-wednesday

A full Nintendo Direct will be airing on Wednesday.

The Direct will air at 6 pm Eastern / 3 pm Pacific / midnight CET / 8 am JST and both 3DS and Switch will be discussed, with an emphasis on Splatoon 2 and ARMS.

These are always fun, even if I don't care much about the games they are covering.

Time for Nintendo's Online plans to be revealed, perhaps? Maybe some news on the Virtual Console for the system...? That's what I'm hoping to see from this Direct.

It mentions 3DS but also says it will focus on Splatoon 2 and Arms, which are not 3DS games.  So I'm guessing the 3DS portion is pretty minor, probably just some release dates.

Pikmin 3DS, Lady Layton and Ever Oasis maybe? More interested in the first 2 than the last though.

Looking forward to seeing more of both games.

They might also namedrop Fire Emblem Echoes Valentia again, tie it in with some update to the mobile game perhaps, I don't know. It's due for a May release isn't it?

I'm much more interested in Ever Oasis than the first two.

We are at an impasse.

I'm more interested in the first one and the last one than the middle one.

The impasse grows.

I'm more interested in the three of them than none of them.

Fine. I'll take Lady Layton, Evan_B can have Ever Oasis, sudoshuff can have Pikmin 3DS and that will leave Mop it up with none. It may not be her preferred choice but she did mention it as one of her options. Everybody wins!

Im still very interested to know more about Arms and Splatoon 2. Anything extra they show is a bonus.

I'll take more Fire Emblem info, plus maybe competitive ARMS? Maybe tie it as an eSport and maybe I can be good at it.

Echoes will get a minute or so, definitely. And the 1.2 update for Heroes (now with more stamina?) should be live by that point as well.

I'd advise anyone waiting for a Virtual Console announcement not to hold their breath. I have a strong hunch Nintendo will be abandoning the "Virtual Console" brand, and ports of classic games will be rolled out slowly over time, in varying forms.

Considering there are Neo Geo games on Switch without the Virtual Console label, it wouldn't surprise me if this is true.

The direct is about air! Are your bodies ready?

Mine is!

This should provide adequate sustenance for the Nintendo Direct marathon.

Direct was pretty nice. I did like the ARMS info as well as all the Kirby news.

The Direct was very underwhelming.

A collection of miscellaneous and small announcements to clear the way for E3 ... I hope. Monster Hunter Stories was a cool announcement though.

The Direct was very underwhelming.
I strongly disagree. Its best to go into directs with very low expectations.

Yeah, this was pretty much exactly what should have been expected from this. They laid out the lineup through July, with longer portions for the two biggest games in that span. Everything after that's going to be covered by what should be a huge E3 blowout.

I haven't watched the Direct yet, but all the news has been REALLY exciting for me even from a distance. I can't wait to get home and watch this thing in all it's glory!

-Shrug- They were pretty low. I honestly expected more than "here's a co-op horde mode and some pretty bad amiibo features" for their marquee game of the summer.

It's Splatoon, the fundamentals are already solid. Also, there was no mention of the single player, which I'm sure they'll cover at a later date. I don't think you should expect an information dump from Nintendo, they're all about the slow burn.

Gameplay fundamentals are solid, yeah. But everything around it could still need fixing though. I want to know if they're ditching the ridiculous four hour map rotation schedule in favor of an actual playlist? (my guess is they're not) Are they going to force me to back out of the lobby to pick a different loadout? (my guess is yeah) Are game modes like Splat Zones/Rainmaker/Tower Control going to be playable outside of a competitive/private match scenario?

Knowing Nintendo, it's best to assume the least amount of changes from one iteration to the next. But again, we're still four months out, I'd give these things time.

I didn't actually watch the Direct, but it contained more info than I was expecting, so I'm fine with it.
