Bravely Default: Flying Fairy from Square Enix is the latest RPG announced for the Nintendo 3DS.

A brief announcement trailer shown during the Nintendo 3DS Confernece 2011 today featured a boy on a sailboat and a battle with a giant golem. Visually it featured elements reminiscent of both early Final Fantasy concept art, as well as the Dragon Quest universe.

Little detail on the game was offered, except that it will feature traditional Japanese RPG gameplay and some form of AR content. Square Enix will be giving out AR Cards for the game at TGS later this week.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is scheduled for a 2012 release.

Okay, Japan, you have to learn this.  You can't just take two words from another language, put them together, and have a credible name.  No one else does this but you.  It isn't like we make a game and call it "j'ai rouge".  That means "I have red" in French.  Makes no sense, right?  But you guys in Japan think this is cool for some reason.  No one else thinks this is cool!  Everyone is snickering behind your back!  "Engrish" is not a badge of honour, it's a cheap laugh at your expense.

What are you going for here?  That someone is brave by default?  Then use something like "The Standard of Courage".  "Bravely" is an adverb, not an adjective and "default" is like a nerdy computer term and is never really used in a flattering or cool way.  Hire one native English speaker and the problem is solved.

Ian that's a bad example.  I immediately thought of a game involving red ballons and an art-style of red emphasis in a black and white world.  With French people and calm music.  It be a mystery adventure much in the Layton style.

A game of this caliber gives me hope for Final Fantasy 5 and 6 3DS and Zelda 3DS to be made with superb graphics.

Don't want remakes, the 3DS had plenty. I want new experiences. I would companies to take risks, and produce new and interesting worlds. I want games like this - but with a different name.

I wouldn't say this game looks entirely new and risk taking.  The art style is damn near identical to the 4 Heroes of Light DS game and the game play apparently hearkens back to an older, more established style.  That being said I love both that art style and that game play... but just because it's a seemingly new IP doesn't mean it's a new experience.  The AR cards however could be something exciting.

It's sad that this game has better graphics than half of the Wii library.

With so many Square Enix games coming out, I feel bad for all the investors stupidly throwing their money away.

I guess its a positive for the 3DS. The Wii has always been capable of more than anyone ever tried to get out of it.
