Nintendo Gaming / Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch/Wii U)
« on: April 08, 2021, 05:18:22 AM »
Bumping this topic since I am late to the party and I finally got Breath of the Wild.

I just spent maybe an hour and a half exploring the plateau to get all the runes and now I can either go fight Calamity Ganon or go and find Impa.  I am not a macochist so I will be finding Impa first and explore the world.

With my 4 spirit orbs I got the stamina upgrades since I want to explore a bit more.

The feel of the game is kinda stressful just exploring the worlds and coming across OP enemies like the Stone guys. Also knowing to be careful around guardian statues.

I will have a read through this thread to see any tips or anything like that in the coming days.

This is how I felt about this game.  I think other Zelda games had a pretty good learning curve, except for the first.  But this game is hardcore for beginners, and you quickly die and die often.  As you power up that fear goes away some but the enemies do get tougher.

Movies & TV / Re: Rate the last movie you've seen

Last Airbender is a classic, but Korra was just a disappointment. Beyond the show just being a narrative & thematic mess, it's also oddly mean-spirited in regards to the Last Airbender characters and the world of the original show. It feels like Korra was part of that same misguided "subversion" movement that a lot of Hollywood, etc. was going through at the time (and to some extent, still is), which makes it very hard to like when it spends half its time shitting over the 1st show's beloved characters.

Korra gets a lot better in its 3rd season, but man that show has a lot of wasted potential.

I dunno I think Korra season 1 is easily some of the best Avatar in the series.  Season 3 is also very brilliant, and the world building is great.  Where Avatar the Last Air Bender is about characters.  Korra is about the world and bigger themes.  I like how the villains all explore the world of benders and the need or really lack of a need of an Avatar when a world has working governments...or when chaos is needed because order is broken and just an illusion.

I feel like HBO might be the only platform that MIGHT be able to give that Disney + budget.  I mean HBO has a pretty good record of funding their series well.  Game of Thrones was pretty groundbreaking for special effects on a TV series after all.

But I would rather give it to the DC animated series team of Young Justice to do a live action show or the original animated Justice league team.

29
I don't think the overall story was bad, just boring.  What I want to know is does the additional hour + flesh out the characters and make it interesting.  And are the fight scenes better?  The real problem I had also was when Superman flew away from a battle with a villain trying to kill the world to save ONE family.

Why?  If your team mates lose or if you lose the whole world is destroyed.  It basically says, yes we picked the wrong villain and power level for this movie with a godly powerful team.

But the Switch... ...people are not worried about it's power,
That aged well.

Seeing that the Switch is still selling, I standby that statement.  Yes, developers will complain when they don't want to put the normal work to optimize a game for a system...something that used to just be standard practice.  But it is still doing well.

BnM: Do we know if the person is male or female?  If female I will vote for the Invisible Woman because it is too obvious.

That is crazy impressive.

To be honest, I think the Mephisto predictions were kinda over-reacting to a mild joke. Agness was just quipping that the bitchy lady was kind of a bitch, but the timing with the stained glass in the Loki trailer got people heavily speculating.

Everyone seemed to be waiting for the big reveal, but the big reveal is Wanda herself.  She's one of the most power characters in comics, capable of bending all of reality.  She started out in the MCU giving people nightmares.  As a "Scarlet Witch" origin story, I think this worked pretty well.

But see this isn't really a big reveal because the whole story is about Wanda doing this stuff.  Even by Episode 5 we know that it is all Wanda...nothing is surprising or shocking.  Even the Agnes reveal turns out to be a triple fake out because it "Wasn't her all along" it was still just Wanda all along.

There was nothing...and if you are going to do an show only about Wanda you should have a bigger shocking Wanda like moment to emphasize what this chaos magic means.  They really should of had a no more mutants like surprise.  It didn't have to be crazy big, but it should have been SOMETHING.

He detained an FBI agent that could be tampering with an ongoing mission.  It depends on which department has higher authority, honestly.  Since SWORD like SHIELD is kinda a secret organization they probably get to skirt that area with a gray area of authority.

In the end, he is an interesting villain which should come back again.  Marvel has done a pretty good job on having more relative villains of late and Hayward, Agentha, Thanos, Zemo, Loki, Killmonger, and now I will put Wanda are villains that have a more complex nature than just I want to destroy the world.  That said, Marvel hasn't done a great fully writing their motivations and exploring their complex characters.

Wanda is now up their with Captain America and Iron Man as being the more complex and intricately portrayed heroes.  So WandaVision has accomplished that, but overall I do think the series did not really land the landing so to speak.

I feel Hayward and SHIELD was supposed to be shown as an evil SHIELD just like in The Winter Soldier turned SHIELD evil.  The organization isn't evil, but it was filled with a "renegade" leader that is making choices that isn't up to him to make.

The story tried to show that perhaps Hayward isn't supposed to have Vision, and the experiments to bring him back online, isn't in his jurisdiction.  If that is the case then the whole project and operation to get Vision online is illegal.  Plus, you have him tampering with security tapes and lying about the kidnapping of the Vision's body as an reasoning to go out against Wanda.

The problem is, not enough time was spent developing his motivation and how he was a villain...it turned into just I am the head of an evil organization so I must be evil.

There was another weird Star Wars Story that retold the first trilogy (4,5,6) main story but changed it in strange ways.  One was that Darth Vader lived.  I didn't collect comics back then so I remember reading the last episode with Vader alive all in White instead of black, and I wanted to read more to see if they could tell an interesting story with Vader being good.

If I was to do a What If Star Wars Story, I think the story arc I would follow is Samuel L. Jackson's Jedi killing the Emperor in that Battle, and Anakin witnessing the slaughter of an old man that he believed was his friend.  It fueled a hatred for the Jedi order that made them look evil.  The death of the Emperor leads Anakin to turn the senate against the Jedi after he renounces their ways, and the senate orders Order 66 as an official vote.  After Padma gives a stirring speech against the Jedi after she talks to Anakin.  This is a far more compelling story.

You have the problem of the Emperor not being the the original series, but that What If story could be that Darth Vader takes that role after he is left for dead by his master.  Or you have Samuel L. Jackson's character having killed a clone, and the Emperor saves Anakin revealing he did this to reveal the truth that the Jedi council is not so righteous or "good" that the dark side is not an evil...making Darth Vader a true believer.

The lack of consequences - and Monica saying "i'd have done the same too!" - did begin to frustrate me after i let the episode sink in.

I think Scarlet Witch's self isolation is her personal sacrifice, but overall yes it was annoying.  The idea because she was a hero and we should root for her, her actions have must be justified was sad.  I would have liked more confrontation with the people she attacked.  Maybe even a physical altercation.  But the reality is at least Monica should have stood up to her.  Though this could be leading up to the Dark Avengers, or a more government controlled Avengers seeking out meta-humans and policing them...which could lead in to a phase 5 X-Men.  Basically having the world split into government sponsored and controlled heroes and then freelance secret heroes and finally mutants.

38
B&M:  If she finishes that book does she really need Agatha?  Seriously, she is studying a book that is explaining all her powers which seem to be quite different than other magicians...so much so they wrote a book how to defeat her.  I think she definitely could become a Dark Phoenix like villain...which would be fun, since The Scarlet Witch I believe started as a villain then became a hero...so to basically start as an Avenger (I know Age of Ultron) but really that was an origin story...and become a Villain would be cool.

The series finale definitely had the emotional drama and the feels, but overall I feel this series could have been told as a single movie...and feel better.  There wasn't that much that truly happened in this story.

39
True.  But also if it was fully the other half Scott would not be trapped in the Quantum realm because wasp and Hank would pull him out...they would immediately have the knowledge of the potential for Time Travel.  They could have a Time Travel adventure again, but going to assist in the places where Thanos got the Stones in the first place.  (Secretly Catching Gamora before she dies.) Kinda like a Heist movie...steal the stones before Thanos does while making him believe he has the stones.  Then at the end when he snaps like he did in the first battle it doesn't work.

40
That is a very cool idea.  The solution they come up with will be very different.  Didn't Doctor Strange say there could win 2 ways?

Maybe their solution doesn't bring everyone back perfectly...or maybe their solution is better because they are more powerful members.

the last time I played I accidentally talked to a dude who insisted on detailing like 20,000 weapons I had apparently unlocked, and you couldn't escape that conversation. Literally sat there mashing A for 10 minutes.

When you said that story before, I thought you were talking about a real person you encountered in Splatoon 2 who wouldn't stop going over the metagame with you. :P

I just hope the online modes are robust enough that they don't have to do what they did with Salmon Run and have it where you can only play it during certain hours. That could be really inconvenent for people depending on their schedule/time zone.

I don't mind them limiting the number of levels to funnel the most players into matches and not segregate the players...but I do want something like Salmon run which is a completely different play style in cooperative mode to be available all the time.

Adrock:  Thank you for the links.  The second comparison link was fascinating.  Machine learning is so interesting, and seeing how companies are learning how to get more performance out of fewer resources is amazing.

If this is true, I am going to be sad, because I don't want to upgrade just yet...but maybe it means that Switch 2.0 and Switch 1.0 will be mostly compatible.  No, I am not talking about Switch 2.0 games playing on Switch 1...but that would be cool, but just They can figure a way to allow players to just upgrade the hardware and keep the games and move forward.

I think this may be true...but I don't see the 4K part being right...unless the dock upscales the image.  There is no way Nintendo is getting affordable 4K in a small Nintendo Switch device this year.  However, IF this is true...and it comes with new designed controllers that work better, I hope the controllers will be backwards compatible with the original switch so I can just get the controllers.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Mario Golf: Super Rush

Speed Golf mode is actually pretty similar to an idea I had of how Mario Golf games should play, so I guess that means I'll have to check this out at some point.

Mario Tennis Aces started with a roster of 16 and had 14 added over time with updates, so this game will probably do something similar.

Yeah, if speed Golf is a game that ties speed and stroke score together and is some fun but simple run and platform elements mixed within an online golf game that sounds cool.   Local Multiplayer if they do split screen it could still work and be fun.

But if it is just a simple all the players run together to get to their ball then that sounds less interesting.  I really need to see how that mode plays.

Honestly this is cool Nintendo keeps updating...but I kinda hoping one day Nintendo will update the Switch to allow the Wii U controller to be a Switch Stream So you can leave it docked.  That would be cool.

I have loved the Mario Golf series.  What I hope happens with this game is that each course has a "pure" golf version and a Mario special course version with crazy powers ups, Mario Kart like ramps and such.

The speed Golf game actually sounds really fun, but I dunno how they are going to do that well...but overall I like the concept.

However, I don't think I will pick this game up, because my money is limited and I will need to get other things for Switch later.

The thing is, that the Actresses script could have a name of who the character really is...and that actor may have a contract to be involved in more shows...and we don't know.  And maybe it won't be even acknowledged in this series.

UncleBob:  Yeah, I was coming here to say something like that.  The Vision in the Hex knows the truth and is smart enough to put together what that body is...Phasing through it and rematerializing inside the body would be a very cool comic-book way to get a living Vision back, AND not just have it be Wanda's magic...which I really do think they want to limit from making it able to raise the dead...because then she could raise anyone she wanted.

BlacknMild:  Wakanda is probably in shambles after the Infinity War.  It was ground zero for the battle and so even before the snap Wakanda suffered several loses...if Vision's body was recovered before the snap, Wakanda may not have been in the position to stop an operation from getting Vision's body out.  They may have even allowed it out believing it would be given a hero death.

How I think the next episode will go:  Agatha and Scarlet Witch will have a very small fight, and be interrupted by White Vision and the Military.  Agatha will let Scarlet Witch go to fight and defend her reality but she will do this to watch and study her magic.  White Vision will fight Scarlet Witch and almost beat her...until the Hex Vision flies and merges with the body.

Then we get the scene from the commercial where Scarlet Witch tells Vision this is our home lets fight for it.  There is a big military vs. Scarlet Witch fight.  Somewhere Agatha will try to attack Scarlet Witch again.

At the end of battle Scarlet Witch will have a confrontation with someone...Whoever the confrontation is with and whatever it is about...I could see it going to either Hayward or Agatha, but it is going to cause Scarlet Witch to do something crazy and cause a world changing event all over the Earth.

What will that event be?  I dunno.  My 2 best is either:

A) Hayward calling her a monster a freak or mutant and she says something to create more mutants...but that is the less shocking predicted out come.

B) She does something that changes the entire world into her hex world, but not one that she in control of...a more free and organic version of it...and this leads to Doctor Strange coming to confront her...cliffhanger and potential season 2 plot device.

All I want is a Switch 2 is 100% backwards compatibility and controllers that are bigger and function better.  I don't care about 4K, 8K or anything like that.  I just want functioning controllers and fun games.
