Gf: I doubt MS will allow GB to port it. "You've played the first part, now for the little price of your soul and USD200 we'll give you the NEW and IMPROVED second part!"

Aww, another one! The Phantom is supposed to do the same thing, the XBox is more or less a lower specced version of that and so on... How many PC-derivatives does one need? BTW, can't M$ bomb this thing? After all, they own WinDoS and they'll probably find some points in their EULA to blow this thing...

Maybe we shouldn't forget Sony's secret weapon: Subliminal messages implanted in the music they release!

Nintendo Gaming / RE: IGN: GC is outselling xbox by 1.5 million!

NoE claimed they sold "more than 3 million within one year". That's most likely Europe-only.

No unnecessary lights on the case! It looks just overkill.
Disk: Blue-Ray Disk, maybe .5cm larger than the current minidisks, so they are even harder to pirate.
As for the RPGs: Some kind of RPG-Maker in 3d. With option to transfer material via PC and import custom graphics (Hell, I'm a modeler!).
The price doesn't need to be too low. The GCs EUR199 (about USD200) was fine. But I'd say lower the game prices a bit (from 60 to 50), after all PC games cost just 45.
Buy Rockstar? Hell, WHY? GTA1 was the best anyway! And that was released for the GBA as well.

If they have some time left, they could release something like the EDS (if you've read Megatokyo, you know what I mean )...

I knew too much had leaked and there would be nothing big left. Nintendo did not fail my expectations.

Ah, yes. Watched two of them, if the quality of the videos was higher, I'd probably even notice the cel-shading...
Currently the battles seem pretty chaotic and uncontrollable. I hope they are easier to controll than it looks.

PIAC: Well, yes, but without Japan the currently top three selling titles (DoA3, DoA:XBV, MGS2:S)* would be nonexistant!

*: According to Karstadt's "Top 20 XBox Sales" list

Is it reachable for free, or does one need to sign up to IGN's pay-services?

1. History shows that inferior technology always succeeds (x86, Windows, PS2, VHS, ...)
2. How could Nintendo counter this thing? Simple! Give the Cube a battery that survives long enough and of course the LCD. And at the current pricing, they could probably produce it at the same price of a PSP...

I cannot post a link, as it was in a magazine (PCGames). The issue is pretty old, too (around the time of the first Halo previews with playable versions) so I doubt I can still find it.

All sources say there is a singleplayer mode and it does not require any GBAs.

Looking at the sales figures I wonder why everyone says N needs to appeal to the mainstream. IMO those numbers are by far sufficient. And if there's still profit, that obviously means N does not need the mainstream. So why don't we just take a minute to laugh about the people who reject the GC because of its looks and miss out all the games?

Mouse: With number 2 you probably mean Pre-rendered using ingame models and textures. Usually that's the lazy man's approach to CG scenes and is IMO the worst option of all three. If you use the game models anyway you can make in-engine cutscenes for smoother transition between game and scene. When there are too many onscreen for you to use the engine, you can as well take the extra steps to make a hipoly version of the model and use that instead. Marketing will appreciate that because it gives them something to put on the box. BTW the explaination "This doesn't allow use of the customized character because the character model was created by graphic artists." is as wrong as it can get. The reason is the scene being rendered beforehand. The character model is created by the artist anyway, as all tries to implement a "make art" button so far failed.

Disks are cheaper, but more power means higher expectations. That means the developers cannot make an entire game in 6 weeks of crunch time.

Just to get that clear: Fan Fiction is illegal. Most companies won't sue you, but some are eager to do so (Funimation hates DBZ-mods). Remember, that as long as it's identifiable as their intellectual property or a derivative of it, it's owned by them. If they get to know of you and think you are a threat to their sales, they can just C&D you.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Where is "Game Zero"
« on: May 14, 2003, 08:08:56 PM »
Didn't IGN spawn the Fear/Ground Zero rumor in first place?
Fear was described as "a boy fighting his own fears", which does in no way match Geist.

I meant: Halo XB is focussed more on action, while Halo PC focusses a lot more on teamwork and tactics. I think the developers said something about console gamers preferring simpler, more action-oriented games.

Sony seems to like to throw irrealistic stats around. Remember, if the processor or GPU get too fast, they need cooling. And power. Lots of power. Lithium Ion at least.

Even early previews of Halo, when it was still XB and PC, said the XB version is a bit dumbed down for action fans, the PC version emphasizes strategy a lot more.

Mouse: You just defined that pre-rendered is the opposite of realtime and FMV can mean either, then you say "pre-rendered realtime cutscene"...

Still, unless there is some secret information you really want to hide from your friends, there's no need for the GBA being required. A properly designed menu can work without distracting other players and without pausing the game. So, yes, if there are no secret infos this is probably a marketing stunt. Bah, don't want to imagine what MS would do once they develop a handheld that can be connected to the XB...

The characters looked totally misplaced in those sequences in FF8. And what's the point of an FMV if all the characters are still blocky as hell? Okay, it's the GC, they won't be blocky, but the lighting and everything will be different. Either full-realtime or full-rendered, not mix-and-match. BTW, those cutscenes eat space that could be used for more game.

... Yes, Steve Blamer once claimed that the command line in W 2k3 S was something completely new. A server run by the commandline! Whoa! Just that Unix used the commandline for 20+ years... Well, but then Unix is soo old and W2k3 is new so W2k3 must be better! *killall CEOemulation*
