Hulu Plus Coming to Wii, 3DS
« on: October 21, 2011, 09:33:02 AM »

How many episodes of Grey's Anatomy can you watch before you throw your Wii Remote at your TV?

Nintendo has revealed that the Hulu Plus video streaming service will be heading to Nintendo 3DS and Wii before the end of 2011. Like Netflix, Hulu Plus is a subscription service for watching movies and television shows over the internet.  A Hulu Plus subscription costs $7.99 per month and contains popular shows like Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, and The Office.

Hulu content is also available on hulu.com, but the Wii Internet Channel browser does not have a recent enough version of Adobe Flash to view this content. Even if it did, hulu.com has blocked non-computer browsers such as PS3 and Android.

Your conversational partner has disconnected.

What stinks about Hulu Plus is now more and more companies are pulling there stuff from the Plus service so, you end up being better off watching at a computer a lot of times.

I don't see this as a bad thing, th PS3 already has it, might as well the Wii have it too.

This makes me happy. I have Hulu plus and netflix (makes cable unnecessary in my house as we rarely have time to watch television consistantly everyday) and have used it extensively on my Wii. The Hulu app on PS3 is absolutely terrible and the Netflix app only got better later on that system whereas on Wii it worked flawlessly from the start. I'm hoping that Hulu plus will work like it does on the Roku box on Wii.

Hey that's me too.  Except all of it is through the PS3 but, from what I've seen all the Hulu Plus Apps are the same UI wise.

After seeing how successful Netflix has been on the Wii, I surprised it took Hulu this long to get on board.

Wii is the #1 console for Netflix usage, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the #1 device that's not a PC to actually stream Netflix content too. The sheer amount of subscriptions Netflix has gotten just from giving access to Wii users (360 & PS3 too) should have made this Hulu app a priority ever since at least a year ago.

I'm sort of surprised by that stat.  I use my PS3 for the HD and 5.1 sound...

Sorry Jackie boy, but it seems that Sony's PlayStation 3 has been dethroned as king of streaming Netflix. That's according to a recent Nielsen survey that pegs the Nintendo Wii as the most used device in households to stream Netflix (outside of the computer, of course), and puts all three gaming consoles in the lead in terms of Netflix streaming to devices.

I'm sure NWR reported on it too, but a quick google search provided no NWR hits.

In my household, we had a HTPC and a Wii, and until recently my wife and my kid exclusively used the Wii for Netflix.  They said it was more comfortable for them to browse with it, because they just used the pointer and could relax on the couch.  After all, we do call it a Wii Remote.  And when you're watching Barney the Dinosaur, you don't give a crap about video quality or 5.1.

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

This. This. A thousand times this.

But in the mean time, even though I don't really care about non-gaming services, it's nice that Nintendo keeps providing them so the naysayers can start to STFU.
