What will Nintendo release in 2023?

The biggest two reasons why there isn't a new console yet is because Switch is doing well, and there are supply chain issues right now. And maybe the pattern got lost in the executive changeover.

NES(Famicom) and SNES -  7 years, 4 months, 6 days
SNES and N64 - 5 years, 7 months, 2 days
N64 and GCN -  5 years, 2 months, 22 days
GCN and Wii -  5 years, 2 months, 5 days
Wii and Wii U -  5 years, 11 months, 30 days
Wii U and Switch -  4 years, 3 months, 13 days

Switch to now -  5 years, 9 months, 16 days

This is the longest iteration of hardware ever. Nintendo could have had a successful pattern changeover and released it on March 17th of 2023 after announcing it in October like they did with the Switch.

I should look into how they do handhelds though.

Stratos:

* There will be a brand new Mario game released. (Bet you part of the reason for the delay in the film was to coincide with a new game)
* Nintendo Switch Online continues the trend of offering DLC to major games as an incentive
* Advance Wars Remake actually releases this year
* Prime 4 is acknowledged and even shown with more than a new title screen, but does not release this year
* New Fire Emblem project is announced; most likely another remake
* Something Animal Crossing related is announced but not something fans were hoping for
* Nintendo releases a racing game that is not Mario Kart or Mario Kart DLC
* Release of a fan favorite game is teased in some cryptic manner and not actually announced or released this year (think like the weird comments about Pikmin 4, but for a series that isn't Zelda, Mario, or Pokemon)
* We get another hardware revision that is not the Super Switch Pro
* New Monster Hunter is announced for non-tendo consoles/PC

Prime 4 is turning into Duke Nukem Forever

Jeez I screwed myself out of points last year once again by going into too much detail.  Seriously, need to be brief this year to get the win.

1.  No Switch successor will be released in 2023
2.  A new 2D Mario game will be revealed
3.  A new 2D Zelda will be revealed
4.  A DLC expansion for Pokemon SV will come out
5.  The rumored new Donkey Kong platformer will finally be revealed.  Not going to predict if it'll be 2D or 3D though since I think it could go either way.
6.  Kid Icarus Uprising HD remaster announced
7.  Regular Gameboy and Gameboy Color get added to basic NSO, while Gameboy Advanced title will be part of the Expansion Pack.
8.  The Metroid Prime 1 HD remaster is finally announced
9.  An HD remaster of F-Zero GX will be announced
10.  A new Wario Land from Good Feel will be announced

Not exactly.  The original developer was Bandai Namco who screwed things up so badly, the entire project had to be rebooted from scratch.  Retro themselves have been working on the game since late 2018/early 2019, which is only 4 years now.  The game will probably be out in 2024 which would give it a 5 year development cycle from Retro which is pretty normal from some of the more ambitious 3D games Nintendo releases.

The only reason I didn't predict a Prime 4 trailer this year is because part of my does wonder if the game might have been moved to the Switch successor.  The Switch successor is probably coming out in the 2nd half of 2024, so if Prime 4 has been moved to it, we won't see any trailers until early 2024.

I'm seeing some of y'all post what Nintendo won't release. Looking at the Rules/Suggestions, this is more of a general predictions thread. Since that's the case and it isn't like there are real stakes here, we can all go 10 for 10 posting what won't happen. "Nintendo won't release a Star Tropics remake developed by Platinum Games" or "Nintendo won't license Jak and Daxter from Sony and release a Switch exclusive reboot" both work and would likely be easy points.

That said, I may adjust these predictions before the next Nintendo Direct if the rules are clarified, or just futz off for another couple months.

* Nintendo will be asked about but will not release a Switch successor.
* The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will have DLC.
* The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's DLC will not be included in Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass.
* Game Boy app will be added to Nintendo Switch Online, probably in the Expansion Pass because y'all aren't getting two generations of Pokémon for $20 a year.
* Nintendo won't add that Japan-only Satelliview Mario Excitebike game to the SNES app in Nintendo Switch Online.
* Nintendo will release some ports/remasters to pad the Switch lineup.
* The Super Mario Bros. Movie will not have a tie-in game. Nintendo knows better than to release new Mario game a month before a new Zelda.
* Nintendo will not release a Nintendo 64 Classic Edition.
* Nintendo won't port any games to the Playdate.
* Nintendo won't release another new mainline Pokémon game this year.
