IGN has learned that Tomb Raider: Anniversary Edition, a 10th anniversary reworking of the original PlayStation game, will be coming to the Wii sometime this year.  An interview with Eidos president and CEO Bill Gardner confirms the news.

Details on how the game will work on the Wii are scarce, though Gardner does say that "t's not a port.  It's a unique version."  He is, of course, referring to the fact that the game is under development for the PlayStation 2 (and PSP), and the bump up to the Wii will be bringing Wii-specific enhancements that should include purpose-built Wii controls.

Because Eidos and developer Crystal Dynamics didn't receive Wii development kits in time, the Wii version of the game won't be hitting shelves with the PS2 version, due out at the end of this month.  It'll definitely be out in 2007, however, so Tomb Raider fans may want to free some space toward the end of the year.

Well here is some good news for the Wii.
I wonder how they are going to change the controls.
The original TR used almost all the buttons on the controller.
I will have to wait and see...

I was a big fan of Tomb Raider on the PC back in the day. I can't remember though, did the original tomb raider have tank controls like RE?

I'm getting it!
At some point, I'd think Nintendo fans would get sick of the anticipation and just say "screw it," but Nintendophiles are odd, odd creatures indeed.<BR>—Chris Carle, IGN

It was similiar to RE in many respects, except that you ran by default and had to press a button to walk. Tomb Raider had a grid-like system, where you had to calculate your jumps in squares. It worked pretty well for its time, since analog control wasn't around just yet...

I've heard nothing but good things about Tomb Raider legend, so it seems that Crystal Dynamics has handled Lara's....assets very well. Can't wait what they'll do on the Wi...
