TalkBack / Re: Capcom Arcade Stadium (Switch) Review
« on: February 28, 2021, 02:37:20 PM »
Really disappointed in what was left out of this collection, especially the third one spanning the 90s. Obviously there would be rights issues for the Marvel fighting games, so I'll give those a pass.

But what about D&D, Capcom vs SNK, or Alien vs Predator? All of those have been released in some form or another in recent history (technically the Neo Geo Pocket version of SNK vs Capcom, but close enough so I'm counting it) so what's holding them up now? If AvP had been included this would have been an instabuy for so many people.

And there's no Darkstalkers or Gunbird 2, which there shouldn't be any rights issues for, those should have been no brainers. Or Super Puzzle Fighter and Super Gem Fighter.

This whole thing just reeks of something that was slapped together quickly with whatever was easily available without a whole lot of thought into actually curating a good collection.

This system needs a readily available arcade stick.

Or this might help too: http://www.8bitdo.com/wireless-usb-adapter/

Ultimately, is anyone that doesn't like this going to actually have some self-control and not buy it?

I'm just going to get the PS4 versions instead. If both were physical on Switch it would be no contest.

Alright, so cancel a preorder for one of the amiibo that come out on March 18 and wait a week to get it. Good scheduling Nintendo!

Was City Folk not a Nintendo Selects game in Canada before? I have a Selects copy I got years ago.

How much of a say does NOA have in which third party games are allowed to be localized? It's probably much more likely that games that would make NOA balk would be allowed to go on a Nintendo system in Japan. But if say there was a 3DS version of Criminal Girls and NIS wanted to localize it would NOA be able to say no?

I've seen things around on various wikis that say that Doki Doki Panic was originally intended to actually be Super Mario Bros. 2 early in its development, but then changed later on when Nintendo decided to do Lost Levels. But all the references seem to loop back on each other, so I have no idea if it's actually true or not.

To be fair, Walmart.com offers digital eShop code deliveries in as little as $10 increments...

Oh! I didn't know that, thanks!

Those download code cards were for customers that don't have credit cards.

Or for people who don't want to use credit cards.  After stories about Microsoft automatically charging for XBox Live and the PSN hack I don't like putting my credit card number into game consoles, so I only use the cards. And I end up spending a lot more on XBL and PSN than the eShop because being able to get a $10 or $20 code right from Amazon instead of actually going to the store lets me make more low price impulse buys.  With eShop cards when I actually am at the store I usually don't even think of it or have forgotten what I wanted to buy in the first place so I don't even bother.

And yet still no standard digital eshop cards like Sony and Microsoft have.

I doubt the exclusives will stop. For Nintendo they get the publicity of people lining up like a new console is coming out every couple of months, and the retailers get people in their stores that otherwise wouldn't be there, like this morning I got a couple of things at Best Buy that I would have just ordered on Amazon if I hadn't been trying for a Dark Pit.

When Capcom pulled their on-disc DLC BS they were rightfully raked over the coals.  Nintendo is pretty much doing the same thing but the reaction isn't nearly as harsh. Interesting, that.

The Mario K'Nex blind bags had codes on them that told you what was inside if you knew what to look for, maybe these will too.

Wasn't New Love + Plus (or however you say it) a buggy mess? Did they ever really fix it?

Nintendo needs to do their own Super Mario Crossover (or just buy the code...). If some guy making a flash game can do something that good there's no reason Nintendo shouldn't be able to.

Did they make Link right handed again? =/

The only way this turns around is if Nintendo actually works with 3rd parties going forward, involving them in the planning and development of the console and the marketing of the games. But what would require Nintendo actually caring how any other company performs on their consoles, especially outside Japan.

So basically Nintendo should be going to third parties proclaiming how much they're just like the other guys, which they've said multiple times through multiple people that they have no interest in being, and which seems to be working out pretty well for  them, despite the semi-annual OMG NINTENDO IS THE NEXT SEGA!!!!11!!oneeleven freakouts.

Glad they announced this early so now I know not to bother buying the game until next year when Hyrule Warriors Ultimate Last Round comes out with all of this included.

I think that stuff became unavailable last June when the Wii Message Board was shutdown. Not as huge of a deal since saves are sort of easy to import on Wii; GameFAQs has a nice save file that has no progress, but all the necessary credits.

Ohh, that's good to know. Thanks!

How about Friend Vouchers in Metroid Prime 3 and Trilogy?
I still can't believe that they actually tied bonus content to those stupid things.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Video Service Ends in March
« on: February 27, 2014, 06:51:17 PM »
The only time I ever used it regularly was for the Kid Icarus anime and The Misadventures of Link, and I'm pretty sure both of those I only knew about because I randomly checked the app when they happened to be there, not from any actual advertising Nintendo did (unless I'm forgetting or didn't see any actual advertising Nintendo did).
If they had done more of those kinds of things it would have been great, but otherwise there was no reason to watch random-music-video-from-a-band-I've-never-heard-of or random-series-made-by-random-people-that's-supposed-to-be-funny-but-really-isn't.
