However, I would like to ask - is there a way that users can see what posts they've gotten points/points taken away for?

It doesn't do me any good to log in and see that I have -50 points if I don't know why.
Actually, you remind me of a feature which MegaByte tried to implement, but it ended up glitchy. Honestly, that post-rating feature seems like it could potentially be useful, unlike this karma thing. Currently, all it does is show who the staff like and don't like.

Although the more I think about it, perhaps MegaByte couldn't figure out the issue with the post rating, and this karma stuff is the alternative.

They're totally different beasts.  Karma lets users easily see who tends to have good posts and who tends to just post worthless junk.  It's a lot more universal than giving a thumbs up to a single post.

For the record, I don't typically give out "rep" - and rarely do I take it away

I applaud and smite on a regular basis.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Looking at everyone's scores, I'd say this is true. ;)

Actually, most of those are left over from the original Karma-implementation, before I was a mod.  I don't deserve credit for those.

I understand the theory, but in practice, it's a number no less meaningless than post counts. If it were accurate, members like BlackNMild2k1 and Maxi would have a positive score.

If I give them a positive score will you quit complaining?

Is there a limit to the points people can give/take? Something like one a day seems ideal.

Seems like there's a limit of once per hour per target.  By the way, you'll give your point back in an hour.  :)

Is it true that people who get a below-zero score are unable to start new threads?

You have a zero score now--try again and let us know if that changes anything.

I hear when you get to -5 score, your avatar no longer shows up for anyone, and at -10, your signature is removed.

At this rate Rowsdower's gonna be the first to hit 5 points.

No one is ever going to get to 5 at this rate. Officially changing the breakoff point to 1.

That means you can rate posts as long as you have a positive score! We'll see how this goes.
