Codemasters brings the Overlord series to Wii this summer with the intention of making a Zeldaesque hardcore game. http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/previewArt.cfm?artid=17761 Overlord: Dark Legend is a prequel to the original Overlord game (for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3) that stars a different, younger Overlord. In a story written by series writer Rhianna Pratchett, this Overlord hones his skills by protecting his castle and his land while terrorizing the local fairy tale residents. However, these aren't your typical fairy tales; for example, Little Red Riding Hood is a wolf in little girl's clothing. Following that, there is a large focus on parody and humor throughout the entire game.
Codemasters and developer Climax Studios threw around a few ideas about what to do with a Wii version of Overlord, most of them overly simplified, but they settled on making what they call a Zelda-style adventure game. However, unlike Zelda, Overlord: Dark Legend is a level-based game with real-time strategy elements. Dark Legend’s level system is all done behinds the scenes, meaning that the more you attack with your sword the stronger you'll become.
The controls are divided between controlling the Overlord, and controlling his minions. The Wii Remote controls the minions while the Nunchuk controls the Overlord. The minions are the same four types used in the first game (brown, red, blue, and green), but they will have added abilities in the Wii version.
Overlord: Dark Legend should hit stores this summer.
