NWR Forums Discord / What happened?
« on: October 12, 2011, 12:04:32 AM »
The first page in the Console Discussion forum has threads that date back to September. I remember when there was a new front page everyday.. and this was in the bleak days of the second half of the GameCube.

Also, why do I have a tingle avatar? And what are these point thingies? And who left and who stayed? And are there any games in the past two years that are worth playing?

NWR Forums Discord / Why does Ian spell it "newcomber"?
« on: September 15, 2008, 02:44:32 AM »
It however appears to be casual focused because most longtime Nintendo fans already have it for the Cube and a fair chunk of us don't want to buy it again.  I guess it's a "newcomber" focused game.  It's for people that didn't buy it on the Cube and haven't gotten sick of the concept yet.

Honestly, since the day I started reading the forums it's bothered me. Every single time it sticks out like a sore thumb, and yet no one corrects him. I've spent sleepless nights worrying about it. Images of a child brushing his hair for the first time!

Someone please enlighten me!

Nintendo Gaming / Pikmin Wii

How is there not a thread for this? It singlehandedly makes up for the disappointments of the rest of E3.

Have they confirmed who's developing it? My hope (oh God I wish this is true) is that Tokyo EAD is making the game. Iwata said that the Mario and Zelda teams were hard at work, but he didn't say on what. Most people assumed it would be on Mario and Zelda sequels, but I didn't see it that way at all.

It's the one thing I'm interested in looking at the horizon.

Apparently, the updates aren't working yet, but Internet Channel USB Keyboard support is in. Plus you can send clickable links to people through the Message Board.

More as it hits.

...Daisy is crying herself to sleep, wondering why life is so cruel.

That's right, Pro 666 has turned his back on her, opting for Princess Toadstool instead (from here). I've always had my suspicions, but here is concrete evidence proving it.

Nintendo Gaming / Website Design for Wii
« on: December 19, 2006, 06:06:53 AM »
In preparation for the Opera browser, which is to be released in three days, here is a great source on how to make your site compatible with surfing on your TV. It isn't comprehensive, but it's a good start, especially with the interface design.

I'm curious as to how PGC will look on there; is there a special redesign in the works? I know we have PGCPocket, which apparently works with the DS browser, but any plans for Wii?

You can also post more guidelines or help regarding this.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo Recalls ~3.2 Million Controller Straps
« on: December 14, 2006, 08:35:08 PM »
Here you go..

Quote

Japanese games firm Nintendo is recalling more than three million straps for its new Wii console.
The announcement follows scores of complaints about the wrist straps breaking during use.

The strap is connected to a motion sensitive controller which is used to control the on-screen action.

There have been many reports of Wii controllers slipping out of hands and smashing TVs and windows - although some of the photos online are faked.

The company has also recalled 200,000 AC adapters for its DS and DS Lite consoles in Japan.

Nintendo said the recall would not affect adapters overseas, and company executives expected only a small impact on earnings.

The strap recall affects all Nintendo Wiis sold worldwide and almost all units currently on shelves in shops. Nintendo has targetted sales of four million Wii consoles by the end of 2006.
Apparently, it's going to cost them "several hundred million yen (several million dollars)."

Nintendo Gaming / A Few Questions
« on: November 22, 2006, 07:36:53 PM »
Hey, I'm quite confused about all this wireless stuff..

1) What's the range for the Nintendo USB dongle? The Wii will be about 45 feet away from the computer, with a bit of interference. I'm wondering if this is too far..

2) I'm looking at other USB connectors so that the wireless isn't limited to Nintendo products. From what I've read, USB adapters allow the computer to receive wireless signals, right? They aren't like the dongle? For example, would something like this work the same way as the Nintendo one?

3) If I go the router, uh, route, and I also wanted to connect two computers, what would be the best way to go about it? Two routers? One router and one USB adapter? Would a starter kit like this work?

4) If I get, say this router, and I want to connect to another computer, would I be able to use this USB adapter on the other computer to detect the signal, even if they are different makes?

5) Apparently the D-Link DI-524 has many different versions; 2 of them are are OK, 1 doesn't work at all and one is 5 stars as detailed here. The trouble is, you can't tell which version you have until you get the router. Here are all the versions.. I don't want to risk it. Any ideas?

Sorry for all those questions - I really feel dumb not knowing more. Thanks in advance.

NWR Feedback / I've Made a Huge Mistake
« on: September 16, 2006, 09:16:44 PM »
So. I was looking for the thread where Pale confirmed that the picture at the New York conference was, indeed, him - I was going to link to it from the Funhouse. After finding the thread (it was called "Conference Blog" or something) I wanted to link only to the single comment that Pale made. To do this, on the top right, where you choose which forum view you want, I clicked "Threaded (Single Messages)" instead of "Linear". A box is supposed to show up, which lists all the comments in the thread - you click on the message you want to have it isolated. However, the box was blank, even though there were 60+ comments. This hadn't happened to me before, so I tried to change the view to "Threaded (All Messages)"..

That didn't work either, so I decided to try out the "Branched" mode. Big mistake. As soon as I clicked on it, there was a message, saying something along the lines of "No messages. This thread will self-destroy in 5 seconds".. And it DID I went to Talkback and there was no trace of it. It disappeared!

I'm wondering if it's still there for you guys, or if I've deleted it for everyone. Also, if you can still see it, how do I get it back? And what's up with the problems I encountered?

Thanks

EDIT: Well. I found the article but, unlike all the other news articles, there was no option to discuss it in TalkBack, and no link to the comments! What have I done?

Nintendo Gaming / Press Perception
« on: September 14, 2006, 08:06:06 PM »
You know, even though to some of us the last two days have been a disaster, the media is still lapping up the Wii - especially the mainstream press. The "analysts" are backing Nintendo as well, considering it to be a strong competitor in the coming generation.

Here is an article for the LA Times which puts the Wii in a very good light. For those who haven't been following the console closely, a $250 price point with that brilliant controller sounds very enticing when compared to the PS3 and X360. This is another great article on the same subject.

It's nice to see that the Wii is being taken as a serious contender, and hopefully the good press will continue until and after its launch.

Nintendo Gaming / Tecmo to "aggressively" support Virtual Console
« on: August 30, 2006, 12:18:34 AM »
I was hoping for some VC news at Leipzig, but we didn't get any morsels from that show. Here's a bit of news on that front, though. Tecmo has confirmed that they will back the Virtual Console strongly. This is welcome news, since we haven't heard much about this feature for a while. Hopefully the infrastructre and support will be in place for launch..
Quote

The creator of Tecmo Bowl and Ninja Gaiden is onboard with the virtual console.

With Wii’s launch growing closer and closer with each day, publishers are finally starting to their weight on the Wii Virtual Console bandwagon. You can now add another name to the list of supporters: Tecmo. In a financial report on August 28, 2006, the company promised to support Nintendo’s Wii download service “aggressively.” Unfortunately, no other details were mentioned.
And also, another piece of information..
Quote

The developer is readying Super Swing Golf Pangya for the Wii's launch later this year. Meanwhile, it is expected that the Virtual Console feature will be unveiled during a Nintendo Press event in North America on September 14th.
So, I guess that event really will be a big one - looking forward to it!

8/23/06 Games Convention / Messe Leipzig
10:15, Nintendo Booth, Hall 5, F01

Be there when a new chapter is turned in the history of gaming. Dive into the world of Wii and make yourself a picture of the animated future of gaming.

Games that will touch generations.

Wii and where?

At the press show of the Games Convention, to which we hereby invite you cordially.

"Wii Prove our Promise" is the title of the keynote speech that Nintendo is presenting. Let's hope they deliver. Here are a few predictions..

1) The big guns will show up. I'm talking about Namco and Capcom, of course.. They have been surprisingly quiet when it comes to the Wii, and hopefully some of their projects will be revealed. Resident Evil? Okami? A new IP from one of them? Hopefully, Konami and SEGA have something ready too, but I'm not as hopeful about them.

2) Launch dates and price will be revealed. It seems like the perfect time, and Nintendo doesn't want these price rumours to keep going; it's better to stop them in their tracks.

3) WiFi/Virtual Console announcements. These had better be good - Wii's online plans haven't really been revealed, and there isn't much support for them yet.

4) There is a separate event scheduled involving EA and Nintendo. They're sure to show off some new Wii games for their franchises.

Any other speculation?

« on: June 17, 2006, 07:12:18 PM »
When you guys were removing the FREE KEVIN, among others, emoticon, you made a fatal mistake. Now, if you want to use the "tongue" emoticon, you have to type in :P: instead of the usual :P without the colon at the end. This has led to unnecessary confusion, and it must be fixed. The whole clock incident cannot happen again; you have 24 hours, get to it.

Thank you
