Title: Marines: Modern Urban Combat
Post by: KDR_11k on October 24, 2009, 05:41:10 AM
Some screenshots here (http://uk.media.wii.ign.com/media/032/032394/imgs_1.html).

It's probably shovelware but we can hope, right?

PORT:  MODERN PORT

Is a realistic military game with good controls and framerate too much to ask for?

What's it ported from? I didn't see it on the PS2 Metacritic list, at least.

Graphics look better than Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare:Reflex?

No, they both look like GC games.

Okay, so Amazon just recommended this game to me for 27€ (usual preorder price for a game that'll cost 30€ on release). Guess that means 20-30$ for the US.

Saw the trailer.  It's like 1996 all over again.

That was a good year for gaming...on the SNES :)

What good SNES game was released in 1996?

That was the launch year of the Nintendo 64, so it was an awesome year for gaming.

Mario RPG, Lufia 2 and a shockingly good port of Street Fighter Alpha 2.

How could I forget Super Mario RPG? That's one of my favourite SNES games. I've not played those other two.

And Donkey Kong Country 3, Kirby Super Star.

I thought Kirby Super Star was 1997, but it looks like I was thinking of Kirby's Dream Land 3. That's another one!

...Better than this generic Marines game I'm sure!

You all missed the point.  Point was tactical shooters were wonky until the late 90s.

Everything else was this adventury hero-ish Goldeneye crap.

And Donkey Kong Country 3, Kirby Super Star.

If you want to get technical, Kirby could be a 1995 game. It cam out in Japan in 1995 and 1996 in other regions.

Weren't proper 3D FPSes invented around 95/96? "tactical shooters" before that were TBS.

I miss 1996 era video gaming. Those were the days when you had 20 different consoles ranging from 16bit to 32bit to 24bit and 64bit all struggling to maintain their niches at the same particular time. Nowadays we just have 3 consoles and that's it. Gaming was better in the mid-90s, imho.

Didn't FPS games like Doom and Wolfeinstein and the original Duke Nukem all come around in the very early 90s? I believe even the SNES and Genesis received versions of these games. I recall the SNES version of Doom was a big deal because it was one of the first and only M rated games for it.

To be accurate, the 3D tactical simulation shooter genre didn't blossom until 1998, with the launches of Rainbow Six, Spec Ops, and Delta Force all that same year.

I threw out "1996" because it was relevant to 3D FPS and a long time ago, but still prior to Rainbow Six.

So your saying the old Rainbow 6, a 12 year old game, is a better product than this game?

Older games can and very often are better products than new games. Who would disagree that Super Mario Bros. is a far better product than Chicken Shoot or Kung Fu Panda? SMB is FAR older than these modern games, but are these newer games better products? I rest my case.

Your point doesn't really make sense because you compared games of different genres. How does Super Mario Brothers compare to New Super Mario Brothers or Super Mario Galaxy?

Rainbow Six got dumbed down heavily over the years.

Sure did.  Ubisoft trashed it.

I tried to check the game's score on Metacritic on a whim but there was not a single review listed, Google found this:

http://gofanboy.com/wii-reviews/1652-marines-modern-urban-combat-wii-review (http://gofanboy.com/wii-reviews/1652-marines-modern-urban-combat-wii-review)

The reviewer was pretty positive, the comments have a guy complain but it's hard to tell if his criticism is worth listening to.

BUT! Rainbow Six has Retard Strength now!

I would kill for another Swat 4. What you won't surrender?!?! Then meet my two favorite words Police and Brutality.

So the Call of Duty-killer has finally arrived.
