This is very weird.  Now I feel like I should support it just to boost sales...but those days are over - until I find a high-paying new job.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Good luck with that, I remember the last time a company had a special deal with Wal-Mart and was almost pushed out of the market because the other stores retaliated. But then again in this country Wal-Mart itself was pushed out of the market...

What exactly can other stores do about it?

Not stock any product by the offending company? From what I read that almost destroyed Nestle here when they gave Walmart a special discount and other stores wanted it too.

But they do this same thing with Gamestop too. Gamestop has had exclusive games before, like Settlers DS. They do it when the game is small enough that they think  extra advertising and sales push from an exclusivity announcement and deal would benefit both the store and the game as opposed to a diluted general release.

Settlers DS wasn't GS exclusive here and I have serious doubts that they could have afforded making it so. Also lol at the US packaging. You know what it looks like here?

For reference, the US box art:

Also, Super Smash Bros. Brawl = Wal*Mart exclusive.

God... did they remake the US game to be a Warcraft clone or something? Because when I played Settlers for the PC it was very light on combat.

The only real problem with the German box art is that it features a gibberish quote: "Fesselnde Aufbausimulation Fur Unterwegs!" What? Were they drunk? They need to leave the l33t speak to the pros on the Internet, and use just plain old English on their boxes.

Has anyone played it either way? The only review I saw give it a 1/10, citing crashing... but I think that was the overseas version, maybe they fixed it?

I tried it out, The graphics felt like a simplified version of the cube game. Very very bright colors. The level I played had me going out and planting and growing flowers in a park to make people happy. That's right Chibi Robo is a dirty hippy! I kept dying cause I ran out of power. I had a spray gun which was touch screen controlled (slide the stylus up to pump the sprayer) and also a boom box, which I think you used the stylus to scratch some turntables, I think. It was a bit confusing.

I could see how you didn't see Settlers anywhere, considering the huge picture of it in the middle of this thread.

Look at me, I'm bumping old topics again!  Whoo!

I just wanted to add my own picture to this thread...

Sorry it's kinda crappy.  Now that I think about it, you can probably go to WalMart.com and see the ad for yourself...  It might be a little too early, since the ad doesn't "start" until the 30th though... Nope... not up yet...

I don't like this move one bit.....I've noticed retail exclusives tend to b1ow.  I liked the original but I'm going to have to wait for the reviews on this one.  As for UncleBob's pic, How did Chibi Robo come out on top of Halo 3, lol.

I'm bummed out. I don't shop at WalMart for philosophical reasons (no offense to UB). Looks like I won't be picking this game up... and I loved the first one too.

What an idiotic marketing decision.
