Here's what S_B is talking about.

Watch this video. At 1:30, DK gets a trophy stand, throws it and turns a paratroopa into a trophy.

Looks like no one realized this had already been confirmed till it was brought up.

I can't believe the first thing either of you thought when that popped up was "It turned into a trophy because it got hit by a certain item"...From what I recall, enemies dropped trophies in Melee without such specific interaction...

Well soon character updates wont mean as much since we'll know the entire lineup.  Since the game is now less then a month away from release, it should be going gold any day now.  So in the coming weeks final copies should start shipping to stores and reviewers in Japan.  Because when you think about it, with all the content that Brawl is going to have in it, Nintendo is going to have to sent reviewers copies of the game at least two weeks before it's released just so they can unlock all the characters and features to truly enjoy the game.

And out of these people that get an early copy, there's bound to be one person who'll leak the character list.  It happened with Melee, it'll happen with Brawl.  With Brawl generating way more hype then Melee did, the reward for posting it's character list is much greater.  And all it will take is one leak to break the dam.

Damn, I should have been predicting that in the update thread the whole time...

I guess I just saw it and didn't think much of it. I think I saw it in a different video, but in Pap's, around 1:35, DK quite clearly throws a trophy stand up at a red koopa he knocked upwards and a red koopa trophy comes down.

Since trophies are about as useful as a pecker on a pope in my mind, I didn't think twice about it, though I'm surprised no one else noticed it.

I remember watching that clip, but that one tidbit didn't strike me as odd at all.  I guess I just saw DK smash a Koopa then throw an item and a trophy falling without associating those actions.

I didn't even mean here, but I'm surprised some part of the internet, like smashboards.com, didn't a-splode in response to it.

The video quality isn't that great.  I do see the Trophy Stand now after rewatching it.  Since the "trophyizing" takes place off-screen, I can see how many people missed it.

Though you're right, some Smash fanatic who would analyze this frame-by-frame ought to have mentioned it before - I don't remember any discussion of that either.

If it happened in an official video, or at least some direct-feed one, it would have been more likely to have been spotted.  I hate it when off-screen shaky-cam is the only choice.  >_<

That's what I thought. I figure there are some people who eat and breathe SSB (more so than me even) and they would've pored over every piece of media available.

On tonight's update...

I liked tonight's update.

It does look like Sakurai wants every part of the game to be a fun interactive experience. I still think that trophies have limited appeal but this is a very clever and creative way of getting them.

Although thinking about it I'm surprised that with all the thought being put into the trophies Sakurai hasn't announced a new mode that lets you trade trophies and send them to other players via Wi-fi.

Launching coins to get trophies and stickers will be interesting instead of just getting random trophies by spending coins in a trophy dispensing machine like in Melee.

I like how it is similar to an old tabletop arcade game.

We're fighting with them as ATs, we're capturing them with stands. The only thing we're not doing is trading them.

I say take that to the prediction thread.

It just makes sense. Everything from brawl matches to stickers has online functionality. I'll be really surprised if the trophy mode doesn't have some sort of online feature.

Oh and no one has yet mentioned the characters that appear in this update, so I'll do it!

First screen:
Sticker: Lala? She looks like Lala but her mouth is open
Trophy: Looks like a Kirby enemy to me!

Fifth screen:
Trophy: Bow Wow the chain chomp (I mention it by name because he appears on Sakurai's list)

Sixth screen:
Trophy: I have no idea who that is...

Seventh screen:
Sticker: Phantom
Ganon Trophy: Bunny Hood

Eight screen:
Sticker: Bow and arrow (I assume its from Zelda)
Trophy: Peli and Phillis, Tortimer and I have no idea what the last two trophies are

Ninth screen: Pretty self explanatory

It's Zoda from F-Zero, that's right another F-Zero related trophy.  It's like Sakurai is just trying to taunt me now.  He shows F-Zero related things, but never shows the one F-Zero character that truly matters.

But I also loved this update since it shows Sakurai has really put effort into every inch of this game.

Oh and something of importance for you all.  On the Japanese page, they have just added the official boxart to the game on the left side right above the release date.

Since it was recently added, I think it's safe to say the Japanese version of the game is finished.  Well, now we just sit back and wait for the leaks to hopefully begin.

You know that has to be the logical evolution, nothing was more irritating to me in SSBM then the fact that the game kept track of how many of each trophy you had yet there was nothing you could do with them, like the trophy trading  part was not finished and/or cut from the game.

Speaking of which, lets make sure we make a seperate thread just for spoilers. This time around, I'd love to have it so I find out about the secret stuff as I'm actually playing the game. I know, its a crazy dream of mine...sigh. I'm guessing other people feel the same though.

Wh-the logic police would like to have a word with you. The basic art for the box has been out for months now, and just 'cause it has a box doesn't mean it's necessary finished. The fact that it's rated means it's probably done, but I bet they can still fiddle with it in non-substantive ways. *is still holding out hope for Mega Man*

I love this update.  This game is not just a mascot fighter; it's a platformer, a collect-a-thon, and a shooter as well.

As for the box art, I'm guessing the ones on the front will be all the starting characters, and maybe a couple more.  I wonder if you actually have to start with the subspace emissary to actually have any characters at all to play multiplayer.

The item is the dragoon.  Pick up all three pieces, and it will form.  Players hold on to the pieces like they hold on to the Smash Ball, apparently.
