Statistics show that Techniques and Characters have gone the longest without being updated...If so, I guess Shielding or Peach...

Actually, this is more indicative of a Mother 3 character making it in.  I believe the Franklin Badge was given away in conjunction with material based on Mother 3's release.  I'll go check, though.

Oddly enough, the Franklin Badge was used in both Mother and Mother 3 promotion.  200 were given away to the first people to mail in for one from a Mother 1 strategy guide released in 2001.  These badges had the gold borders seen in Brawl's pictures.  Later, in a Mother 3 deluxe set, the same badges, albeit with white borders, were packed-in.  It's strange that they were never released in relation to Earthbound/Mother 2.

Considering NOA doesn't care about Earthbound in the slightest, I expect it to stay Mother and act as if Earthbound never existed...
