Sometimes they have co-processors dedicated for sound, but they aren't the same kind of thing where the chip is generating the sound programmatically.

I was going to do the snarky let me google that for you response but as it turns out tendoboy made another topic on this matter on ign and wound up getting an answer right away, therefore nullifying any need for this thread to exist.
