Hello again! I am back, after a month of being away! And now I will say something that adds nothing to this conversation! MEAT! It's spelled M-E-A-T! Why can't I remember that? And now, I will disappear! *poof*

Seriously though, this board is very intimidating. The people here are a lot smarter than I expected, after seeing what goes on over at the GameFAQs board. It seems like every time I have a comment on something, someone else has already expressed a similar thought. Oh well, fastest one wins, I guess.

And now, a question from an uneducated forum user. Please don't dislike me for asking this. Can someone point me in the direction of where I can learn the definition of the terms used here? Because that would help, thanks.

I didn't realise we had that many elitist phrases, but sure, post them here and we'll explain them.

I think he's referring to the various incarnations of LoLleRZ.  =P

Because we use words with more than four letters?
EDIT: <3 the person who put this in the emoticons, trillian p guy will rule the internet

Nah, we're not that mean. Once you get to know that people like Infernal are ALWAYS crazy, and you don't mess with a crustacean high on moderator powers, you'll get along here fine.

You could pretty well ask any of the regulars by PM or by posting here if you're not sure of something. Even then, we might not even know what we're on about.

Yeah, you can PM me if you have any questions, Mop_it_up.  Don't know how?  NO PROBLEM!

Alright, look at the big PlanetGamecube FORUMS banner at the top of the page, below the ad at the very top.  See it?  On the left?
Immediately below that is a picture of a lock that says "no new message(s)" next to it.  Click that link.
You're now in your private message center.  You can check and receive those here (if the link you clicked on is flashing, that means you have a message, and it'll say how many).  Anyway, look at the block with a slight tan tint, says Search, Send, and Delete private messages.  Go to Send a private message and type in the user name you want to send it to (mine, whoever).  You may want to copy and paste to make sure you have it exactly right, or at least check.
Hit send, and the message window will pop up for you to type your message in.  Type whatever you want, hit the send private message button at the bottom, and I should get it.
I explained it pretty thoroughly, just want to make it absolutely clear.  Enjoy your stay!

Ok, so maybe intimidating wasn't the right word. But has anyone here seen the GameFAQs forums? They do have some smart people, but there are some people there who are just plain ignorant and/or mean.

Here are some terms I've seen recently:
Flame or Flaming
Troll or Trolling
L33t
n00b

I know there are more but I can't think of them right now (What's LoLleRZ?).

LoLleRZ = a fancy version of "lol"
Flame = attacking one's person because they don't agree with you (Halo fanboys flaming you for not liking it)
Troll = Sony fanboys going onto a Nintendo forum to say how good Sony is/how bad Nintendo is and vice versa, etc...Basically being an obnoxious fanboy...
L33t = elite...I didn't even think anyone said this anymore ...Generally used by arrogant asses who talk about how "great" they are...As common as breathing to Counter-strike players...
n00b = newbie...or one who is new at something...Generally used by arrogant asses with inferiority complexes to classify those who have just started playing a game...(Mostly used by the online audience)

I didn't see L33t here, I saw it on the GameFAQs boards.
Here are some more terms:
Bump
Tier  (I saw this on GameFAQs' boards.)
Avatar
IMO
Rules  (Just kidding)

My dictionary discribes Avatar as the descent to Earth and incarnation of a diety. What does that have to do with this forum? It probaly means something else here, just like spam, but I don't know what.

Avatar = image representing the tastes of a chat/forum user *points left*
Bump = Bring up my post...A shameless act of posting in your own topic as merely a means of getting others to post in it...
IMO = in my opinion
Tier = rank

I didn't know that either!  It makes just as much sense as just plain "bump" though

It took me a long while to figure out all the terms used on this here internet, but I eventually did.  Alot of the acronyms took a while, like IMHO, IRL, BTW, and the such.

from what I've gathered, imho = in my honest opinion; irl = in real life; and btw = by the way.

Thanks for the help. If I see any others, I'll just try to figure them out on my own. All I'd have to do is forget everything I know about common sense (Which isn't much).

One last question though: How do you get text to appear with that black bar over it so you have to highlight it to read it?

If everyone on this board had officially checked-in, this topic would have over 7,000 posted messages. Good luck, and don't let Hostile Creation scare you.

Hello everyone, I am a long time PlanetGamecube reader but I finally decided to join the forums. Also, yesterday I participated in radio trivia for the first time and got one point.  After playing radio trivia I decided that i should join the forums too.
