It would make some sense though, as there is a reason those threads were locked.

Wii sales are even less than the original estimate!
What's up with the declining Wii sales anyway? It can't be good... not going to pass the PS2 at this rate!

I wonder why nobody complained about this on the DS.
Because people like to crap on the Wii, it's the "hip" thing to do. Even although I'm not too fond of the Wii, I'm seriously considering becoming a blind Wii fanboi just because there are so few of them.

The DS has a microphone built-in so it could theoretically have voice chat without needing an accessory. Maybe it can't though, and that's why no game has done it...

It's been a while since I've played the original Punch-Out!!, so I don't remember the order of the boxers... Maybe I did beat more than Glass Joe, I can't remember. Who do you face second? When does Soda Popinski show up?

My brother was pretty good at the game though, he reached Mike Tyson a few times but I don't know if he ever beat him.

Yes, the original Punch-Out!! is brutal. I can beat the first boxer, but after that... :-\

Oh yeah, I forgot about Onslaught. I might check out that marble game too because I love Marble Madness on the NES.

Just curious, but why wouldn't you have counted WiiWare? The games may not be as large or labour-intensive as retail games but they still take effort from the developers.

Mario Party 9 shall be Hudson's next project, I'll bet my mop on it. (The dirty one I keep in the closet of shame.)

I know. And that means that a Mario Party 9 wouldn't "use up Nintendo's valuable development resources" as I've heard some people complain when it comes to spin-offs like this. What has Hudson been up to anyway? The last project I know of is Bomberman Blast, which was released in September. They're a small company, wouldn't they want to create a sure-fire hit like Mario Party 9?

I own Super Punch-Out!! but I don't like it because it is too difficult for me.

I'm just glad this game's title still has two exclamation points.

Wow, you can tear off that shrink wrap a lot faster than I can!

I'm anticipating NWR's review of Mario Power Tennis. What little I've heard about it hasn't been positive, so I'm wondering if there's really something wrong with the game or if there's something more sinister at work here. Getting the perspective of someone who didn't play the original may be beneficial; I myself haven't played the original and so I wonder if it's just that people who had couldn't adjust to the new controls.

Here's a question for you:
Where does the Nintendo 64 rank in terms of your favourite systems?

It's difficult to top Mario Kart Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

Adding a button-only control style isn't inherently bad, it just likely means that the motion controls aren't as intricate as they could be. I was hoping the controls in this game would be an evolution of Wii Sports boxing, which couldn't be replaced by button presses. I can't say I'm disappointed though, because I wasn't expecting that, just hoping.

If the gameplay is solid then I might pick this game up at some point.

Maybe it's a good sign then that Nintendo hasn't announced Mario Party 9?
No no no no no NO!
It would be a good sign if Nintendo announced a Mario Party 9 that was set to revitalize the series; on Wii it shouldn't be difficult, it has plenty of features which could be utilized to make the best Mario Party in existence. Online play would definitely be a good addition as well. I know people say that Mario Party is the type of game best played with people in the same room, but what about those times when you have three people and don't want to sub in a stupid AI player? You could go online to search for someone to fill that slot! If the game used Wii Speak it would work really well!

The first thing I did when I bought the Wii was tear off the Wiimote jackets and burn them. Not only are they ugly, they are uncomfortable and just feel very... wrong... to hold.

I've always thought it disappointing that Mario Kart Wii records only your amount of first-place finishes, as coming in 2nd, 3rd, or even 5th in a 12-player race can still be quite an accomplishment.
I think your memory is a bit fuzzy.  Mario Kart Wii records your win-loss record, but you still get some wins no matter what place you get (as long as you don't come in last).  For example, if you come in third in a 12 kart race you'll get 9 wins and 2 losses.
I know that the game records your win-loss record based on how many people you placed ahead of, and that's nice, but it isn't the same as recording how many times you've placed in each position as there's no way to tell which positions you've placed in to earn those. The win-loss record applies only to Wi-Fi races while the other records apply to all races both online and off, another reason why it would have been nice.

I own the NES game but never could figure out what in the world you're supposed to do in it. There's too much trial and error in it for me as you have to keep giving each type of jelly bean to the blob to figure out what they all do and how to use them. Add to that the limited amount of beans, and, well, I don't have the patience for a game like that anymore.

This could turn out interesting however. If you're given more direction and explanation of each bean's transformation, it would be a lot easier to get into the game.

This actually has me worried as to how the controls will function. I guess it means they aren't an evolution of Wii Sports boxing if the motions can be replaced by buttons so easily. It will probably still be a solid game, just not very creative with the control style.

What does shovelware actually mean then?

When it comes to Wii games, I think I'm going to go with Wikipedia's definition, especially the bolded part:
Quote from: Wikipedia
Shovelware is a derogatory computer jargon term that refers to software noted more for the quantity of what is included than for the quality or usefulness. The term is also used to refer to software that is ported from one computer platform or storage medium to another with little thought given to adapting it for use on the destination platform or medium.

I'm glad you're staff now Flames_of_chaos because now your posts have better spelling and grammar.  :)

I wonder why Nintendo doesn't want to release this outside of Japan? Is it because other countries tend to be less accepting of accessories as Japan?

To people who are questioning online: did you miss this part?
The game will also support the Wii Wheel and have online play for up to six players.
It doesn't say what modes are available but it's still something.

I went back to 50cc just to get a star in one of the cups. During that I was hit with more blue shells than at any moment in 150cc.
I noticed this too. It makes me wonder if the size of the first place position holder's lead has anything to do with the frequency of blue shells. It's a lot easier to get a sizable lead in 50cc than it is 150cc.

Or it could just be a coincidence. If the blue shell truly appears randomly then there will be races where there are hoards of them and possibly races where there are none at all.

Ok, I could buy this... if you hadn't done it yourself just a few days prior!
... And then I think to myself "Dear mop ..."
While I can see how that would be inferred as such, I wasn't referring to myself in the third person; notice how "mop" isn't capitalized. I use the word "mop" in place of "god", so that expression was similar to "dear god".

You'll probably think I'm making this up, so here is an example from an older post:

The developers were "bored" with racing games where coming in first was all that mattered. Just like in Excite Truck, it is possible to win without being the first across the finish line as long as you accomplish some wild stunts.
I like this idea. I've always thought it disappointing that Mario Kart Wii records only your amount of first-place finishes, as coming in 2nd, 3rd, or even 5th in a 12-player race can still be quite an accomplishment.

Can't go wrong with Wi-Fi races either. I might just have to get this when it is released... although I should probably get ExciteTruck first.

Whatever happened to the "Pay to Play" concept that Nintendo unveiled a while ago? Wasn't that going to be a more robust online service, or did it become something else?

Patches are a double-edged sword. While it is nice to be able to fix bugs which somehow sneaked past testing, it also encourages laziness because it allows publishers to rush a title out the door and fix it later. If I recall rightly, less than half of all Wii owners don't have their systems connected to the Internet, meaning that many people could get stuck with a "broken" or "unfinished" game. If bugs aren't game-breaking then they can also be fixed in later retail versions; Super Smash Brothers Melee had a few glitches fixed up shortly after its release.
