Title: Episode 815: A Change of Hardware
Post by: NWR_Lindy on March 26, 2023, 05:01:05 PM

Stop saying "hardware."

What's iconic about Mario? What does an alleged-AI think RFN sounds like? Why are there so many skeletons? This, and one more question, are answered in this week's RFN.

That question is about movie-based games.

After a break, we have a bit of New Business. James believes the NSO needs game manuals and that the Fire Emblem Engage DLC was mighty-speedy. Jon is beta testing his future obsession with Diablo IV. Greg finally gets to talk about Doom Eternal. Guillaume has final thoughts on LEGO Star Wars, and thanks our Talkback Heroes.

Just a reminder: emails go here.

NEXT WEEK is part 1 of RetroActive 52: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Comments go here!

Part 2 will be in a few weeks.

The funniest thing about ChatGPT segment is that i started to recognise personalities and mannerisms from "AI presidents rank ..." videos just voiced by hosts.

The ChatGPT segment was perhaps the most effective example in practice of that je ne sais quoi James discussed with the Seinfeld stream a few episodes ago. It’s horrifyingly fascinating to listen to, and yet, so hilarious due to the inaccuracies in your respective personalities and overall structure of the show. Altogether too efficient, disturbingly so. But I do think Greg’s persona of having a pretty helpful understanding of games history and esoteric film and tv references does shine through. Jon and James getting along was a step too far.

Delightful episode.

I see you've selected the PS2 Simple 2000 classic; Demolition Girl.

That was a pretty good stunt with the AI. The voice for Jonny was eerie how similar it sounded. It nailed a lot of the common jargon you each have, but it definitely added some creative liberties. Greg had a much thicker British accent and James’ voice went up as if it was being played on 1.5x speed. All of the gags, and the cherry on top was the abrupt cut to the “ending” music… hilarious!
