PSP Prices
« on: August 25, 2011, 02:40:32 PM »
A local shop is selling used PSPs for PSP-:

1000 $79
2000 $89
3000 $99
Go     $150

If cheap enough I like to buy one for Monster Hunter and some of the other games.  Just wonder how cheap can I get them?

If you really want one, go for the 2000. It's a big step up from the 1000. The 3000 isn't much different from the 2000 so I really don't think it warrants the price.

That's what I was thinking.  If memory serves that's when they changed the processor.

Yep. That's the one I had until I sold it. The only problem I had (which is a problem the applies to all PSP lines, I think) is that I'd sometimes shut off the system because of where the power switch is placed.

Get a Go it is secretly handheld gaming perfection.  Plus you can now rip iso's to it so theres no "ugh when will Birth by Sleep or Lumines just get on psn already" .

Last time I checked the PSP Go was not a new revision of the Dreamcast, so it is definitely not gaming perfection.

I'd say go for the 3001, but be careful with it. The 2001 and 3001 have both have two very small (and weak) switches that tell the motherboard when the door is closed, and if there is a game in the tray. They break very easily (well, not that easily) - but if you ever need to replace your LCD, the PSP 3001 has the cheapest one, typically costing around $25, whereas the 2001's LCD usually costs around $55. The 1001's LCD is usually about $35. You may find cheaper prices on eBay, but you'll typically be buying knock-off products (as in they aren't made by Sharp) that break easily and don't have same specs as far as color, contrast, brightness, etc.

Last time I checked, the Dreamcast died a year after birth from people no longer caring about it, so it is definitely not gaming perfection.   :P:

Honestly, I'll never understand all the cooing over the Dreamcast just because it had one fairly decent year, especially when we all know the SNES had many "more than decent" years.   ;)   Skies of Arcadia excluded, I haven't seen a lot of Dreamcast games that have held up all these years later, either.

It only sorta died. New consoles were still being sold in Japan as late as 2006-2007 or so which puts it on par with its competitors of that generation. Also, new commercial games WERE still coming out for it.

But greatest gaming system of all time? No, I wouldn't say that. But I have to admit I never even played it so my opinion isn't qualified.

Go with the 3000, better color then the 2000 ones.

What games are you looking for?

Mostly just Monster Hunter at the moment but, this looks to be a waiting game at the moment now that my Wife seems receptive to getting a new TV finally.
