I've never touched a switch, nor have I opened a single game.

the only game I'm in physical possession of is Mario+Rabbids.
everything else was literally just ordered on Amazon moments before I posted (except for the pre-orders put in about a week or 2 ago).

The only caveat I have about comparing the Switch to the DS, 3DS is that they have had revisions and different versions released.

I can guarantee you the Switch will get similar revisions throughout it's life.  With this being their only system going forward, no way they don't milk it for all it's worth.  A smaller and more portable friendly version with better battery life, a handheld only one that they can sell at a cheaper price like the 2DS, and even a more powerful version that makes no sacrifices while in handheld mode anymore.

Any kind of revision you can think of will probably happen.

The PS4 and XB1 both have revisions and they're strictly consoles.  It's clear that ticky tacky upgrades to hardware is something the gaming industry wants consumers to accept and embrace.  Whether or not this works in the long run remains to be seen but the trend has already been started and it's very compatible with Nintendo's past practices with their handhelds.  At the very least you have to expect Nintendo to try some sort of Switch revision because the idea is up their alley and the ground has already been broken for trying it with consoles and handhelds.

The Switch has actually been fairly plentiful in stores over the past couple of months, but I expect that to change about now with Mario releasing and the holidays coming up.

Is this all some sort if deterrent from kids trying to eat the games?

Switch sales are 7.63 million LTD right now. DOOOOOOMED.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-nintendo-results/nintendo-doubles-profit-outlook-on-strong-switch-console-sales-idUSKBN1CZ0JK

So apparently there's word going around today that Switch's only sold 2 million units in NA since launch. If that's accurate, Mario will probably double that over the holidays, but...yeah, that's still not an amazing 1st year, even if it is much better than the Wii U.

If it has sold 7.63 then I've got to think the NA attach rate is higher than 2 million.

This was as of September. They sold 1 million within the first month, so that's 6.63 million afterwards, so roughly 1.1 million consoles per month. That would put them at about 8.75 million right now (the 7.63 million is through September) - so they're probably at around 2.5 million in the US right now (at a minimum, I'd say). They're just under 2 million in Japan, so that would mean 5 million or so everywhere that isn't the US or Japan...I imagine US number have actually probably crossed 3 million at this point, based on worldwide totals and Japan. 14 million by the end of the year is Nintendo's forecast. So it looks like 10 months of Switch = more than Wii U lifetime sales. I don't think Sony has anything to worry about, but if the Xbox One X doesn't do anything for Microsoft, then it looks like Nintendo could be at number two for "generation" within a couple years, if they can keep it up. Xbox One has apparently flat-lined at around 30 million consoles, while Sony is going to hit 65 million pretty soon.

2 million copies of Super Mario Odyssey in the first three days is incredible. 3D Mario has never been as big of a seller as the 2D games, but this one's off to a great start.

It's really crazy that's those sales are only in October.  Usually Mario games that are released in November at least double their sales in December.  Considering this game still has the November and December it should have a pretty huge holiday.
