TalkBack / Re: Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows (Wii U) Review
« on: September 17, 2015, 08:16:27 PM »
I excitedly downloaded this today, then played Stage 1... and honestly didn't enjoy it a bit. I can't stand Plague Knight's jumping, and his attacks aren't much better. I feel disappointed because Shovel Knight is one of my favorite games to come along in years.

One of the first NES games I completed as a kid. An impressive feat, I think, given how difficult the game really can be, especially with its floaty controls. If it weren't for Princess Toadstool's floating ability, this game might be impossible.

I pre-ordered my Special Edition in-store at GameStop, and it's also available for pre-order at GameStop.com as I write this (I just checked). Go get it!

TalkBack / Re: Super Mario Maker Update Changes Unlock System

You have to spend five minutes editing which each set of unlocked building materials before the next set queues up for delivery the following day. This is already getting old. I'd much prefer to have the full set of building materials available at the start. It's nit like the editing feature is complicated. Let me go to town on this thing, Nintendo! Jesus.

I bet this game will receive additional features via updates over time, Splatoon style.

57
The Amazon listing isn't even available via a regular search. That may just be a placeholder page. Any pre-orders placed from that might just end up getting cancelled.

58
Pre-orders aren't up ANYwhere yet. I don't know what Nintendo was talking about.

For how much money?

As a huge Xenoblade fan... I must have this.

September through December are going to do murder to my pocketbook.

What are you waiting for, WindyMan? Shovel Knight is one of the best games I've played in years!

So many early mornings ahead, waiting outside stores to buy amiibo...

TalkBack / Re: Capcom Sale Now Live On eShops

Naturally, last week at Target I bought Super Street Fighter IV 3D on clearance... for fifteen bucks. So that sale price is a real burn, right there. But otherwise... what the hell, Capcom? I wanted Virtual Console deals!

TalkBack / Re: Mario Clash Review Mini
« on: August 14, 2015, 03:16:37 PM »
I have a grand total of five games for my Virtual Boy, and while none of them are what I'd call great, Mario Clash is actually one of my favorites of the group. Whatever you play on the Virtual Boy, though, you'll still be feeling rather nauseous after 10 minutes or so. The problem with the system wasn't so much the games as the system itself.

@ Ian Sane - I was damned glad that Nintendo stuck with cartridges for the N64. The load times for the PSX rendered that system completely unplayable, in my opinion. Nintendo at least understood that most players should want to spend their game time actually playing games, rather than watching them load. Just because discs were becoming the popular medium for games in the mid/late-90s, that didn't make them a better format, and load times were exactly the reason why.

What's the story here? Is the 3DS finally getting Virtual Boy games for its VC? Because it really, really should.

Confirmed today: The retro characters are only being sold as a 3-pack in the U.S. ... Why on Earth would you have no interest in ROB? He's awesome! Possibly the best of the three, I'd go so far as to say.

68
America will probably get the game with no spiffy extras, as per usual. We probably won't even get the original game on the eShop.

I love this game, so I can't wait to play this expansion! I'd actually forgotten that it was still coming, it's been so long since I heard anything about it.

70
My GameStop couldn't really tell me anything. They just confirmed with a wink and a nod that they'll be holding "an event" this Saturday, but they couldn't say yet for what.

I'll be there several hours early!

TalkBack / Re: GameStop Bundling Some Of The Wave 5B Amiibo?
« on: July 31, 2015, 08:25:22 PM »
My main problem with exclusives is what happened with Wave 4. If three different stores each have an exclusive on the same day, which store am I supposed to line up at? I can't line up at all three, which means I'm being forced to choose which two exclusives I'm essentially going to have to give up hope of buying (without having to turn to importing or filthy scalpers). And that's some serious bullshit, right there. It needs to stop.

I sure would love it if there were no more goddamned exclusives in the next wave. I had to wake up at 4:00 this morning to wait outside Best Buy for six hours to buy just one figure. This whole thing is so out of hand.

73
Oh, excellent! I can finally get Return to Dream Land at a reasonable price! I hope that takes son of the steam out of the jerks on eBay.

TalkBack / Re: Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards Counted
« on: July 21, 2015, 07:09:17 PM »
Blind packs are absolute bullshit. I expected better from Nintendo. 100 cards is a LOT of cards to ask anyone to try to collect via blind packs; the number of doubles you'd accumulate is unthinkable... especially since we all know there will be rares. Why can't Nintendo just get their amiibo **** together?

So well written. This has been an enormous loss, and one that I've inexplicably taken very hard and very personally for someone I've never met. This memorial beautifully sums it all up. He truly loved what he did, and his joyous enthusiasm made us love it, too. He interacted "directly" with Nintendo's fans and put a genuinely happy face on his company and products with every appearance he made. It really feel as though I've lost a friend, and that hit home for me when I broke the news of his passing to my 9-year-old daughter. She had seen many of his Nintendo Directs and immediately recognized him by name. And the very first thing she did was cry. Indeed, we have all lost a friend, whether we had the opportunity to meet him or not. He had the most lovely and joyous soul, and he loved to share his joyousness with everyone. I don't believe I'll ever come to miss him less than I do now. Thank you for writing this wonderful memorial to him.
