Isn't the Wii getting an exclusive Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest. I think it will be just fine in Japan.
Besides why bother with Deca Sports 2 with Wii Sports Resort coming so soon.

With few exceptions, any time a developer has truly taken the time to put the effort into making a truly great game on either the Wii or DS, it has gone on to become a success in time. Madworld's closest relation on Wii are the No More Heroes titles which also started slow and eventually became quite successful considering their relatively small budget.
As for GTA:CTW. There hasn't really been anything like it on DS before so it's going to take time for handheld gamers to discover it but eventually they will. Didn't GTA3 on PS2 start off slow before eventually becoming the mega-hit we remember it as?

TalkBack / Re: Loss Drives EA to Increase Wii Support
« on: February 12, 2009, 03:47:27 AM »
It's trends like these that could lead to Nintendo becoming the market leader ;) *note sarcasm*

It may sound bad that they're supporting the Wii because it's cheaper to make games for but this isn't anything new.
The PSX got all the third-party support over the N64 for just that reason and it changed the face of the industry.
Besides "cheap" games can be far more innovative and fun than the big-budget ones. Take EA's own Boom Blox for an example -  a game which rivals even Nintendo's own titles.

I think a third Boom Blox built around the enhanced motion+ controls would be a great idea but I'd rather see them improve upon the original formula first. The original worked so well because it was designed with all the Wiimote's limitations in mind. They'd have to go back and change the core gameplay to use the motion+ to its fullest potential.

Such a great game, I'm glad its getting a sequel and hopefully this one will get the recognition it deserves.
They really need to drop the price of the original at this time. I think A LOT more people would give it a shot if it were 30 or under.

Let's hear it for Mario Kart Wii which managed to ALMOST sell as well as the two PS3/360 versions of GTA combined and DID beat them individually.

As for Wii Play, it really needs to be disqualified for its pack-in. It's a fun diversion for TEN BUCKS if you happen to need an extra Wii-mote but that's all it's being bought as.

It's good to see the casual titles like Wii Play and Wii Fit sharing the top-selling chart with hardcore titles like Mario Kart and Guitar Hero. I know certain people now call the latter two "casual" as well but Mario Kart is one of Nintendo's most long-standing franchises and Nintendo's most loyal fans complained for years about not getting their own edition of Guitar Hero. Now we not only have our own, but it's the best selling version.

I think SOME voice acting would be appropriate.
There was a lengthy scene in Twilight Princess where the Princess herself literally silently mouthed the words along with the text. It was absolutely ridiculous. Link should NEVER talk and most of the characters in the game should stick to text but when a major supporting character has a lengthy, dramatic speech in a cut-scene I do think quality voice-acting would really add to the mood.

I wish ALL Nintendo fans could just enjoy seeing the Wii dominating the market.
It saddens me that so many supposed loyal fans are hating on it.
Yeah, this holiday season's lineup SUCKS for us but we've been through this before.
Some people are acting like the Wii is the first Nintendo console to go through a dry spell. The N64 and Gamecube were just as bad and much worse at times. Back then, we'd be looking forward to the big holiday title only to have it be delayed into the new year, leaving us with NOTHING.
We spent the last two generations complaining about lackluster holiday lineups, endless delays, and pathetic sales. Can we just be thankful we now only have ONE of the three to complain about. These ARE better days.

The crappy holiday lineup doesn't mean Nintendo has abandoned the hardcore gamer as some have accused. They need to stop using this casuals market as a scapegoat. This is just more of the same crap we've put up with for over a decade. But, you know what, we've remained fans through all these years of miserable game droughts and when the next masterpiece of Mario Galaxy proportions does finally arrive on the Wii, all will be forgiven.
In the meantime let's just be thankful Nintendo is finally kicking some competitor ass and becoming a household name again. Nintendo is back on top and the best is yet to come. Just not until next year.

This is exactly the type of "it's good, not great" reaction most hardcore gamers had to Wii Sports and Wiii Fit and look how crazy the casual market went for them. I suspect Wii Music is going to take the holiday season by storm.

Other than IGN's predictably negative review, the game actually seems to be FAR from the train-wreck people were expecting if the moderately positive impressions/reviews coming out are any indication.
This game won't be for everyone but I do think it will be everything it was intended to be and please its intended audience just as Wii Sports/Play/Fit did.
Probably not a "buy" for me but I'll definitely rent it for the novelty.

The announcement of the new Punch-out and a the Sin and Punishment sequel should be enough to end the "abandoned the hardcore" talk. Not to mention the focus that was given to titles like The Conduit and Madworld.

As for the storage solution. Other than the fact that it should have come out months ago, it's perfectly adequate.
SD Cards are dirt cheap these days and I'd rather pick up a few of them than have to buy an expensive hard-drive add-on.

Looks like Nintendo might be bringing out the Virtual Console's big guns to supplement the somewhat lacking Fall lineup.
If every week from here on is as good as the last couple have been, we might not even have time for retail titles.

TalkBack / Re: Proto Man to Playable Via DLC in Mega Man 9
« on: September 22, 2008, 07:16:38 AM »
This is why DLC is total BS.
You're not paying for extra content, you're paying for something that could/should have been in the game to begin with.
This is why I'm glad Nintendo isn't utilizing DLC in its high-profile games. People bitch about Brawl not having DLC but we would have just ended up paying the cost of the game again in fees to buy all the characters we got to unlock for free.

I could see developers get a thrill out of making spectacular graphics on the Wii.
With the PS3/360, everyone EXPECTS amazing graphics and are seldom impressed. With the Wii and its reputation for poor graphics, developers can really wow the fans when they use every bit of its power to make something that looks twice as good as all the other games on the console.

44
A Wii version of Soul Calibur 4 with Link AND Ganondorf as playable characters would sell more than the 360 and PS3 versions combined. The Star Wars characters aren't a big selling point in Japan and even most Americans seem to think their inclusion in the game is ridiculous. Perhaps SC4 on Wii is still a possibility. Maybe Dead Rising will start a trend.
With a little scaling down of the graphics just about any 360/PS3 game could appear on the Wii.

Also people need to stop with the whole "Namco hates Wii" thing. Sure, like a lot of developers, it's been hesitant to suport the console at first but it WAS one of the Gamecube's biggest supporters and has worked with Nintendo on joint-titles in the past.
With the Wii having officially proven itself to be a capable console (and the most successful in fact) I think we're going to see tremendous support from Namco the future. There's no telling what could be in development now that we don't even know about.

45
It's amazing how Sony went from practically having a monopoly on the console market in Japan to being in the sad state it is now. What happened to Nintendo over a decade ago is happening to Sony now.

TalkBack / Re: Capcom's Bionic Commando Not Approved for Virtual Console
« on: August 13, 2008, 05:38:43 PM »
Sony and MS have played hardball with developers for years. Now Nintendo finally has the same option.
Why would it want to essentially advertise for a PS3/360 title? I don't think this has anything to do with the game's content. I mean there are upcoming Wii titles that are FAR more violent and controversial afteralll. If Capcom was willing to give the Wii a port or even a different version of the new Bionic Commando we'd almost certainly see the original on the VC and maybe we still willl. All Nintendo is asking of developers is to support it's console which I don't think is too much to ask considering it's by far the most popular and most successful.

The blame goes mostly to fans for psyching themselves up way too much for what is quickly becoming a non-event. But Reggie didn't help with his "core gamers" comment. People just need to keep in mind he's a PR guy for Nintendo of AMERICA.
Unless it comes from someone high ranking at Nintendo of Japan, it's to be taken with a grain of salt.

Sonic and the Secret Rings was equally weird and off-putting at first but turned out to be pretty fun.
The story for the multiplatform Sonic title which apparently involves Sonic turning into some wolf-like monster is also pretty strange. At least Sega gets kudos for not only giving us a Wii version of the multi-platform Sonic but an exclusive spin-off on top of it. No more of this either/or thing most third-parties try.

This is a title with HEAVY Miyamoto involvement.
I can almost guarantee it will end up being brilliant even if a single sitting with a dumbed down demo version is pretty horrible.

The scoring, grading, and evaluation will probably be in the finished product.
The game will almost certainly have a way of rewarding proper playing, it just won't beat you over the head every time you miss a note like other rhythm titles.

As for the "cheesy karate screams". Reminds me of the horrible alternative sound effects available in Donkey Konga. No one in their right mind uses them, and those who aren't in their right mind seem to enjoy them quite a bit.

50
As much as this will improve the Wii's motion control I can't help but feel it's a waste.
As an optional accessory developers will be hesitant to make games requiring it which will keep it from being any kind of lasting innovation and if it did end up being standard on the Wii's successor it would no longer be as impressive by then because we'll have already experienced the superior motion controls in a few titles that will use it.
It seems like Nintendo should have either waited to use this technology for its next console or just make every effort to make it the new standard for the Wii which is hopefully still a possibility. Though it would mean packaging the accessory with future remotes and selling it stand-alone for a generous price so existing users will buy them for all their existing remotes.
