"I think all of our readers have Wiis."

Nope.  I'm in the same boat as you guys.

Is it still possible to use the long-jump staircase glitch to get through the locked door and up the "endless" staircase?

So the N64 games don't have any noticeable improvement over the originals, huh?  It'd be nice if they had improved framerates to smooth things out, but hopefully they won't end up any worse, like OoT and MM seemed to on the Zelda Collection.

That is absolutely hilarious.  I want one.

I'm stuck on a military base in Korea.  I'm not likely to get one until I'm out of here.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the new image viewer?  When there's a new batch of images, I tend to go to the images page, view the first one, then click Next through them all.  With the new viewer, I have to click to close it, then click another thumbnail.  Yeah, it's just one extra click per image, but that's still 200% more clicking than before.  If you can add next/previous buttons to the new viewer, then it'd be great.

My only other criticism is the lack of visual separation between elements.  The sidebar, the header, individual updates, they're all visually the same.  There's nothing distinguishing between them.  Even something as simple as a horizontal rule between updates, or like these forums, a different shaded background from one to the next.  The design is nice and clean, but perhaps it's TOO clean.

EDIT:  My laptop screen has a noticeable decrease in contract when viewed head-on.  I viewed it at an angle and realized there's a bit more visual separation on individual game pages, it's just too subtle to see unless viewing my screen at an angle.  It still feels a bit lacking to me on the main page, though.

Also, the image viewer doesn't work if the thumbnails are still loading.  It'll just link directly to that image instead of loading it within the same page.  Might want to find a way to code it to load the image viewer before the thumbnail images.

The Wiimote is completely different from the Zapper.  The Zapper worked by blanking the screen then covering the positions of the targets with a white rectangle.  If the sensor in the zapper recognized the white rectangle, it registered as a hit, otherwise it was a miss.   The Wiimote determines where it's pointing through the accelerometers and infrared sensor bar, not by flashes on the screen.

Without the rumble in the controller, a lot of people are going to be confused when they pick up the Stone of Agony in Ocarina of Time...

TalkBack / RE: Pink and Black DS Lites get a date in the US
« on: August 24, 2006, 02:46:31 PM »
I think it's because of the glossiness.  The GameCube has more of a matte finish so "Jet Black" works for that, while the DS Lite has a shiny, glossy finish, much like real onyx.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo Will Open Subsidiary in Korea
« on: June 30, 2006, 03:13:24 PM »
Hopefully this will help increase Nintendo's presence here in Korea.  Everywhere I've gone here, it's been PS2 and Xbox with absolutely no Nintendo stuff at all (except for on-base, but that's American-run and it's all imported from the US anyway).

Well, I admit it's an unusual decision, but I'm interested to see what they do with it.  It's definitely grabbed my attention, at least.

Did they add an option to use Y and B instead of B and A for GBA games?  If yes, I'm 100% getting one.

NWR Feedback / RE: Question regarding recent Mother 3 screens
« on: February 15, 2006, 04:18:14 PM »
Well, for one thing, I'm a huge Mother fan, so I was naturally drawn to the images, and then I found the same shots at various other sources and noticed they looked a bit cleaner there.  Out of curiosity, I checked the properties for the images here compared to at the other sites and saw that they were in a different format and different size.  And now I know the reason why, thanks.

NWR Feedback / Question regarding recent Mother 3 screens
« on: February 14, 2006, 09:20:22 PM »
Just curious, but was there any reason for changing the format of the screenshots?  I mean, the originals from Itoi's site were about 5k GIF images (except the forest scene, it was about 10k), while the new ones are about twice the size AND have noticable jpeg compression artifacts.

I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining or anything, it's just something I noticed and it got me curious.  I've taken graphic design classes which have sort of trained me to notice things like this.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo WFC Hits 3 Million Connections
« on: January 25, 2006, 08:55:48 PM »
"Personally, I don't like comparing the 3 million number to XBL subscriptions. It's like comparing apples to cases of apples. Nintendo's number seems to be referencing each time someone's connected, meaning that the 50 - 100 times I've been online count towards that number. "

I thought it was comparing the .5 million users on WFC in the past 2-3 months, to the Xbox getting four times as many Live users in about twelve times as much time.

Nintendo Gaming / Wanna blow 1,000,000 bells on a crown?
« on: January 09, 2006, 10:38:48 PM »
There's a crown for sale in the Able Sisters' shop, and I don't have enough to buy it, so I figure instead of it going to waste, I'll let some rich guy in to buy it.  If anyone's interested, ring up Tansunn on AIM and I'll let you in to buy it.  First come, first served, of course.

EDIT:  It's too late, they're closed now.  This can be deleted - I'd do it myself but there doesn't seem to be any delete button I can access.

I think those did use some real instruments.  The title theme/staff roll in particular actually sampled the mandolin, and according to my searches on Google, the mandolin belongs to, and may or may not have been played by, Miyamoto himself.  Not sure about the Dragon's Roost theme, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was sampled too, since they obviously have the capabilities to do so.

Chrono Cross for PSX was almost entirely MIDI and Xenosaga ep. 1 had some tracks that were MIDI.  The former sounded excellent, and the latter was almost indistinguishable from a real orchestra when it used MIDI instead of streaming audio.  What do you mean by "subpar"?

TalkBack / RE: Castlevania DS Revealed
« on: January 02, 2005, 05:16:56 PM »
Just because it's there doesn't mean they have to use it.  I'm actually kinda glad they're not going too far with the capabilities of the DS.  I like the way Castlevania plays, and I'm not sure how much I'd like it if they screwed with the formula too much by making too much use of the extra screen and touch sensitivity.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo DS Puts New Experiences Only a Touch Away
« on: November 21, 2004, 07:48:20 AM »
Last night I set my alarm clock to get me up at 8:00 am.  My internal clock woke me up at 7:00 am, but I figured I might as well go with it, so I went to the bus stop to wait for the bus to take me down to Fred Meyer.  But the bus didn't show up because they run on a different schedule on Sundays, so I started walking.  I get there about 20 minutes later, hit the cash machine, and go to the electronics department.  The one I bought was the first one they'd sold today, which I thought was pretty nifty.

I'd have to say the stylus is WAY too small, but otherwise I'm really enjoying it.  I was pleasantly surprised with how well the Metroid demo controlled, although there seemed to be a slight delay after I first tapped the screen before Samus would actually turn, which I assume would be so people don't turn when they're trying to jump with a double-tap, but I'd still prefer if the delay wasn't there.  Morph ball controlled great, though.

So far, my only complaint is GBA control.  I'd much rather use Y and B instead of B and A, but there doesn't seem to be any setting to change it.
