If you have a problem with collecting, which let's face it we all do, use this as a support group to help each other in our time of need.

I see many of us needlessly collect something. For me it used to be old video games and consoles, Transformers action figures, and films on DVD & Blu Ray. Lately I have gotten off all that but recently I have gotten into "digital" collecting. I have gotten to the point where I will buy a game I already own on an original console for Wii virtual console, then turn around and buy the same game on Wii U when it gets discounted, then download the PC version and if it is available on PSN I will buy it there too. It's not just multiple copies of games, which is not as bad as it sounds I actually only have a few true duplicates, but I find myself buying games just to have them all. At one point I thought I would try downloading every game on Wii virtual console, until I sat down and added up what it would cost to do so.

I keep telling myself I have games I will never play enough is enough and every paycheck I find myself right there on the digital stores, mostly Wii U and PS3, buying yet another game I either already own, have had and never played, or will play once and forget about. This wasn't so bad when I could buy physical games because you could always trade stuff and keep the collection fresh. Well that isn't possible with digital games.


I thought for sure the cure for buying too many games would be to own a Wii U but no they had to go and make it backwards compatible with Wii Virtual Console.

I got some free movie passes from work and have been holding on to them for a while. I have tomorrow off, the first Friday night I have had on in who knows how long, so I am excited for that. I would like to go see a good movie but am not sure what is out there that is worth seeing anyone have any suggestions?

Since it was mentioned in the 90's thread the 80's were supposedly better for music, I figured why not.


I am not that familiar with the music of the decade outside the few big dance pop/new wave one hit wonders VH1 used to play constantly, and some hair metal, so I don't know where to start. My 80's playlist on my ipod consists mainly of various New Wave compilations, the Ghostbusters soundtrack, and a whole lotta Madonna, Debbie Gibson, and B-52's with some scattered Beastie boys and Run DMC sprinkled in here and there.

On behalf of the lame State of Nebraska, I am sorry for Ernie Chambers taking up so much of your news broadcasts these last few days. On the bright side, for us at least, it got us away from talking about cows for a while. Too bad it won't last long because 90% of our viewers only care about cows, corn, and the Huskers.

Nah, there's just some people on this forum who hate Nintendo and, not surprisingly, they are exited at the fact that Nintendo may also lose the console race in Japan when it has looked like it might win there for this generation. 

I don't hate Nintendo I am just happy Playstation is doing well because as long as Wii U continues to SUCK at least there is a real game console out there to support. I would LOVE for Nintendo to not suck but hey they don't seem to care so whatever.

I have kind of been thinking the same thing as Ian because it just seems like last gen was lousy and hey what a surprise PS2 was still selling up till 2013, so maybe that shows there was a hunger for consoles but just not what was being offered. Plus PSP was pretty much the real successor to PS2 in many respects just like DS and now 3DS are better alternatives in many respects to their console counterparts. Sure it is a waiting game but right now the signs are pointing to a revival of consoles not a bleak future as has been predicted.

but that is not new, nor is it Japan, hand helds have out sold consoles for a long time now.

Game Boy outsold SNES, N64 and Game Cube COMBINED, as did GBA and DS EACH. That is not a new phenomenon they are different markets filling different needs that is not proof that console gamers have switched to hand helds it just means that the last generation was lack luster all around, nothing more.

Vita is doing better than Wii U. Is that your benchmark for "proof" consoles are dead in Japan, Wii U is beaten out by two handhelds? What if PS4 does turn things around,  which it looks to be doing, still going to pretend like consoles are not dead?

For the sake of the Japanese gaming industry that abandoned the console market years ago, I hope the PS4 DOES turn things around in Japan. I WANT to see a revitalized Japanese development scene after that market completely collapsed last generation. I've just seen this little dance play out several times in the past few years: temporary bump, followed by severe slide as the same old 2-3 handheld franchises dominate the charts. And meanwhile, another Japanese developer jumps ship to join the mobile scene.

The PS4 is dominating worldwide. There's no disputing that. However, for the PS4 to really turn things around in Japan, it would have to explode in a way we haven't seen in Japan since the PS2 days because that is the only way all these Japanese developers will come back. I just don't see that happening. The sales have been too soft.

Just curious, I actually agree with what you are saying here, but didn't Wii dominate in Japan too, or was it a dud there?

I decided to find a way to keep my website alive. The only downside is I had to sacrifice my personal blog for the time being. The good news is a friend from work agreed to sign up and help me create new content for the site. This means we might actually turn it into a pretty decent little site after all. Still shopping for a reasonable web hosting/domain provider that is both affordable and up front with their pricing policies.

I tried to talk sense to the kid, even sticking up for him every chance I get. If he gets banned again, so be it I give up. I would side with Pokepal here as it almost sounds like he got Mod powers and used them first chance to get his way, but Lucario has been warned many times. Also his attitude upon return stinks.

Not an excuse to not try.  The only time since the N64 I feel Nintendo didn't completely sabotage third party support with idiotic hardware restrictions was the Gamecube

God how can you be so damn think, Game Cube was probably even more restrictive to what 3rd parties were doing than Wii was. Not being able to play DVD's, forget the movies for a moment, that alone made developers have to intentionally make cuts to their games especially in the latter years. There were games that couldn't be done on Game Cube because the content would not fit on a tiny disc and the market was not accepting multidisc games any more. PS2 supposedly won all those "casuals" by playing DVD movies, to some degree I think that is true but you cannot attribute playing DVD movies to PS2 success and then not mention it as one MAJOR reason why Game Cube failed. Weather it mattered to YOU or ME or anyone here, there is overwhelming evidence that many people were in fact turned off by that major featuring lacking from the GameCube so much that despite having far fewer, and often inferior games, the Xbox managed to beat Nintendo in nearly every turn.


Game Cube lacked proper online something Dreamcast was doing at the time. There are COUNTLESS examples where a game on PS2/Xbox had online and as a result was either not released on Game Cube or had the online removed making it an inferior purchase. The Game Cube was NOT developer friendly. IF Game Cube had been exactly as released same games, same price point, same connectivity and the only difference was proper online and full DVD support including movie play back and STILL bombed then yes you might have an argument but Game Cube was butchered compared to its competition and the BIG AAA games that were pushing sales of the other two were mostly lacking on Game Cube as a result. Hell it was missing many of the major sports games right off the bat. Game Cube is one of my all time favorite machines and despite ME loving it for the games, there is now way to deny that those major flaws had an impact on sales. Unless you live in a bubble where Nintendo can do no wrong, which you claim is not the case yet you continue to pretend Game Cube was ACTUALLY on par with its competition when it was not at all.

Graphically sure but specs are more than graphics and at a time when online and multi media cut scenes were all the rage NOT having the ability to play 60% or more of the hits of the day certainly held it back.

Sure they will, they are doing it in droves. Every sales story says the Ps4 is selling faster than Ps2 do you really think all of that is hard core gamers? The flaw in this argument is lumping all people who aren't hard core into one "casual" umbrella which is erroneous there are a lot of Madden/CoD and Wrestling only "gamers" who will buy the damn thing too. You can say Ps4 won't sell as well as Ps2 all you want while in the real world it ALREADY IS doing just that.

Yes it launched stronger but that's thanks to the huge demand for new next gen consoles since the previous one dragged on so long.  The hardcore make launches successful while the casuals are what drive long term sales.  The fact PS4 sales are slowing down around the time the PS2 took off shows it's not appealing to families and casuals like the PS2 did.

what you have one month where it dipped slightly and suddenly that is a trend? The PS4 is proving that there is still a market for home consoles.

Alright give it a few months or the end of the year it won't make any difference. All the evidence points to a world wide resurgence of Playstation with the PS4, and Japan is Sony's homeland too.

Nintendo's dominance in Japan has come to an end, the era of Playstation has arrived. Top 20 rankings, Sony =12 Nintendo = 8 the tables have turned. So much for consoles being dead, PS4 almost sold more than both handhelds combined. Good job Sony keep kicking ass and maybe Nintendo will have to straighten up. Poor Xbox it's almost as if the thing doesn't even exist over there. Much like the Wii U here.
