The Best of DSiWare
« on: May 06, 2009, 10:26:52 PM »
Well I figured we needed one of these threads and I wanted to ask a question!

So what is the best DSiWare?

I am asking this because I am going to the Doctor tomorrow and want something that's just a quick pick up and play that's good.

So just post what you think is the best DSiWare and your impressions of it from now on!

IMHO, the only thing worth getting on DSiWare right now is Birds and Beans.  My wife enjoys Doc Mario and Brain Age Express Math...

Birds and Beans is a *great* game for $2.  If you enjoy ye ol' Arcade Space Shooters, it's pretty much a homage to those days of old.  The unlockable Birds and Beans 2 adds a lot of play value to the game.  If you're like me, you'd easily throw $2 in quarters in an Astroids arcade cabinet if you saw it someplace.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Supposedly, Moving Memo is considered to be awesome in some interweb places.

But it's directed by Yoshiaki Koizumi, so it's basically a shoe-in for being awesome.

I got Art Style: Aquatica its a great game in my opinion. Took awhile to figure it out but once I did I was hooked! I can get addicted to puzzle games very quickly.

Has anyone else picked up Art Style Pictobits? I thought Decode was next on the release list, but I'm happy Pictobits came out instead. It's almost a perfect companion game with Tetris DS with all the 8 bit Nintendo nostalgia.

I have the game for the iPhone, and if the DSiWare version is the same thing but with a physical D-Pad it's definitely worth that price and I will buy it once I get a DSi.

I think it's worth picking up. It's good for playing in short bursts and has a pretty cool concept. Pieces of colored blocks fall down, and you have to match four of the same color, using blocks that are at the bottom of the screen. If you don't manage your blocks quickly enough, it's easy to get overwhelmed.

I picked it up, but haven't made it too far into the game. The concept had me intrigued from the moment I heard of it on the IGN podcast.

The only controls are to move around and to flip pages. There's no jumping whatsoever. There are parts that require you to fall off a ledge and flip pages to progress where you need to. When you fall off a ledge, you just fall in a straight line and can't move left or right. Overall, the game gives off an Adventures of Lolo vibe in a way. You're stuck in a puzzle, and you have to figure out how to get out.

Flip champs is really great.  It's surprisingly challenging, much harder than I imagined, when you figure it out you get that great "eureka" moment.  The art style is good, and the music is fantastic.

Overall I give it a  ;D , you should buy it!

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: March of the Minis comes out tomorrow, I believe. In addition to the main game, there's a level creator that you can upload for other users to try. Should be good.

Me? I can't wait for FlipNote Studio!

I picked up Mighty Flip Champs and I'm halfway into World 2. I like it a lot although some of the levels are really tough.
Expect a review after E3 dies down.

Mario vs. DK and DickNote Studio are going to be must buys.

Mighty Flip Champs is great.  I was a little confused at first with the lack of jumping, crouching, and the usual platforming fair, but it all makes sense after playing the game.  It's a puzzler through and through.  I wondered what the point of the touchscreen creating a box on the screen was until I got to some boards with four different flips to them.  Having the box there is a life saver when trying to remember what square you're trying to get to.

Long story short, if you like puzzle games, drop the $8.

I have Aquia and Pictobits and I like them a lot. I'm interested in Mario vs Donkey Kong and Mighty Flip Champs, but I'm not sure which to get.
WarioWare hates melanin and was an instant failure and waste of my DSi points :/

We haven't updated this thread in a while.  As a new DSi owner and a Pepsi/Rock Band cap abuser, I'm interested in knowing what games are worth my time.

Pictobits
Mario vs. Donkey Kong
Mighty Flip Champs
FlipNote Studio

Anything else?

Possibly some of the other art styles. I'm partial to Nemrem (no idea what they call it in the US) because I like thinky puzzles (as opposed to reflex heavy ones like pictobits). If you're interested in it Asphalt and Real Football are supposedly good.

I still like Birds and Beans, if you like the arcadey-space shooter genre.  It's only 1 Pepsi Cap as well. :)
