The Famicast 1: 3DS GET!
« on: March 12, 2011, 02:54:55 AM »

Join the NWR Japan correspondents in their first ever podcast dedicated to everything Japan.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/25679

With the Japan team now three men strong and the Triforce now complete, we thought now was the perfect chance to start a supplementary podcast to RFN featuring the whole crew, and thus, The Famicast was born!

Unrestricted by time zone differences, James Charlton, Matthew Walker and Danny Bivens form together like Voltron for some talk about everything Japan.

The hot topic is, of course, the 3DS launch, but after that, we move into detailed impressions of the system’s features, including StreetPass. Listen to Matt as he describes what it’s like to have a 3DS in your pocket walking around the busy streets of Tokyo.

News is (naturally) Japan-focused, with talk of some interesting Virtual Console releases and the crazy Pokemon-themed DS typing game.

After that we get straight into our Japan exclusive games feature, featuring none other than The Last Story and Captain Rainbow!

Learn what it takes to give Birdo his/her happy ending. (It’s as weird as it sounds).

With us all living in Japan, the odd Japanese word slips out from time to time, so you never know, you might learn a bit on the way!

We wrap up the show with a chance to win some cool swag from Japan, listen to the show to find out how. Entries can be sent here.

If you want to ask the Japan crew a question, why not drop by our forum thread or send us an email directly. We will try our best to answer them all, the best of which will be answered on the show.

Consider us as your irregularly scheduled manga pullout from your main gaming publication that is Radio Free Nintendo.

Podcast a go-go baby!

Very cool idea, guys. I hope you can do more episodes in the future, because this is a good format and the three of you have great radio voices.

Nice to hear about your 3DS stories. It sounds like Super Street Fighter IV is the game to have at launch. And I am in complete agreement about Pilotwings Resort; Wuhu Island is a fun place to explore, but in the other games it has featured in, it's like 1/12th of the game, not the whole thing.

One question about the system I have, which may have been answered elsewhere, is regarding the Home Button. Is it like on the Wii, where returning to the Home menu exits the game, or is it closer to an iPod Touch/iPhone, where the game is simply put on pause?

Yes! This awesome. 8-4 can no longer call themselves the only podcast about games and Japan. =P

I hope this becomes weekly.

I hope this is continued. I would love to add Famicast to list of podcast I listen to weekly, which consists mostly of Radio Free Nintendo and Newscast, so Nintendo World Report has certainly done something right with its other podcasts.

I really regret taking so long to listen to the podcast. I know I've lost the contest by now. =/

As for feedback, just have a bit more energy and try to make it flow a bit smoother. I'm sure that comes with time though.

so far so good (haven't finished) but allot of it seems like a repeat of stuff heard on RFN and Newscast. However I am still enjoying it

Thanks for the comments guys! This was a test podcast and we are open to comments and ideas going forward :)
We can't promise this will be regular, but as for the big events in Japan we will definitely try to cover those.

As mentioned above, be sure to check out our forum thread or drop us an e-mail with your Japan-flavoured questions.

I'd sure love to live in Kuki, or is it kochi? Regardless, it sounds delicious!

Killer_Man_Jaro, the Home button the 3DS is a little bit different than what you find on the Wii, but not quite like what you find on an iPod Touch/iPhone. If you're in a game and press the home button, the home screen with all of your "channels" shows up. From there, you can write a memo, check your friend list, check system messages, and even use the internet browser (you're supposed to be able to, at any rate. After the big update in May, I presume.). If you choose one of the other channels while on the home screen, let's say for instance AR Games, the system will ask you if you really want to change what software you are using. If you choose yes, then you go into the software that you chose.

And Scatt-Man, it's Kuki, and it's more delicious than you ever dreamed.  :P:

A huge thank you and congratulations to the guys behind this. Thoroughly enjoyable and informative. I would love for this to become weekly and hear the boys branch out in to other Japan only published Nintendo games as well as maybe even touching on Japan's take on non-Nintendo gaming and Japanese culture and attitudes in general. For example, I found it particularly interesting when they were discussing Birdo and Japanese outlooks on such things. It was maybe a little rusty and lacked the sleek well oiled feel of say, RFN but that comes with time.

Please keep it up and thanks once again.

Good episode guys, I hope you make it a regular and you get your own RSS feed. Oh and by the way, I know about the Toys R Us ticket thing to pre-order systems, as I also got a ticket when I pre-ordered my Wii. It was better than lining up in the cold November night/morning. Just showed up early got my ticket and went back around 10 A.M. when they were opened and I paid the amount.  :D

I really liked this podcast.  It just showed up in my iTunes feed as a pleasant little surprise.

I wouldn't mind at all if it became a regular thing or spun off into its own podcast, but if that's not possible, then it being like a regular segment in the normal show.

I want the inside Japan scoop.
all we get is the worse reports, it would be nice if they
could report on how the disaster is effecting the daily
life of Japanese, and gaming culture as it pertains to Nintendo.

After hearing they are ok of course. our thoughts and prayers
 are with the Japanese people.
