GCN Games List - Memory Card blocks
« on: February 01, 2003, 03:56:31 PM »
Welcome to the Ultimate GAMECUBE game list.

How can you help?
We pretty much covered Pro Logic, Pro Logic II, Progressive Scan, and the GBA-GCN Link, but we still need memory card information.

Here are some tips:
Only give data if you have or played the game. Don't give data if you read it on some website.
The best way to determine how many blocks a game needs is to look at your memory card(Turn the system on with no disk and a memory card in one of the slots).
The next best way is to read the game instruction booklet.
When replying, try to give more details. If a game needs 14 blocks, how many game files do you get. 4 blocks for saved file, 2 blocks for replay, etc.

We also need games that support widescreen, 16:9.

My Questions
Bloody Roar: Primal Fury -- nintendo.com says 11 blocks
Capcom Vs. SNK 2: EO -- nintendo.com says 2 blocks
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex -- nintendo.com says 2 blocks to save, but lists 1 block under memory blocks.
Cubivore -- nintendo.com says 4 blocks
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets -- nintendo.com says 4 blocks
James Bond 007: Nightfire -- IGN and nintendo.com do not mention Pro Logic II
Knockout Kings 2003 - IGN and nintendo.com do not mention Pro Logic II

Future Updates
I plan on going into more detail about each games GBA-GCN link.

This is an excellent idea!

To answer some of your questions . . .

Eternal Darkness uses 15 blocks and the player gets six save files total.
For Super Mario Sunshine, you get 3 save files for the seven blocks.
I'm not positive, so get someone else to confirm these two, but I think that each photo in SSB:M takes 2 blocks and the extra block in Metroid Prime is used for the save data in the original Metroid (once you unlock it)

More Games:

Lost Kingdoms -- 2 blocks per save file (8 save files max)
Resident Evil -- 8 blocks per save file
Sonic Mega Collection -- 2 blocks for all necessary information
Luigi's Mansion -- 3 blocks for 3 save files

Star Wars: Rogue Leader - 3 Blocks for 6 files.
Crazi Taxi: 4 Blocks for 4 files (needs 4 free blocks on card to save data over)
Super Monkey Ball also needs 3 blocks free to save.

I'm assuming the reason those games need those free blocks is because they create a duplicate of the save infomation and delete the old one. It would be interesting to find out how the game saves the data.
I think we should mark all known games that need extra blocks to save data with an asterix or something.

Great idea Mingesium! Unfortunately all games I have have been covered all ready. But I have a question. I am planning on getting Animal Crossing in the near future and would like to know what the "bonus letter" and Travel Data are.......I'm guessing you can go to other towns by inserting a memory card in Slot B. But what is the bonus letter and should I put the blocks in my Memory Card 251 or the inlcuded memory card.

You can't move your town data or the Bonus letter so I recommend using the Animal Crossing memory card.

There is two ways to travel to another town.
1) Have your friends town in slot B and your town in slot A.
2) Have your town in slot A and a memory card for travel data in slot B. Take the memory card for slot B to another gamecube (or you could use yours) and put it in slot B and your friends town in slot A.

The travel data is like a middle man. If your friends over and wants to visit your town, but doesn't have his card, you can give him a memory card with the travel data to take home.

The bonus letter is a letter sent from Nintendo to the first person to play the game. So if you are the first to create a town, when you check your mailbox, you should have a letter from Nintendo with a nes game.

If the games you have is listed, you can check to see if the info is right. There could be some hidden info like option or snapshots.

So I should keep my town in the Animal Crossing Memory Card and Travel Data in my MC 251? And why can you only have the Bonus Letter on the Animal Crossing MC? Was it made differently than a normal one or something? Thanks in advance.

You can't move town data or bonus letter. The only option it gives you is to delete it. I don't know why Nintendo did this. You don't really need the travel data. You can just put the other person's town in slot B. The travel data would have to go on another memory card. I recommend keeping your town on the AC memory card because if you run out of room, you can't move your town data so you would have to delete it.

So what is the Travel Data for then? (Sorry about the questions) So you have proof you traded something?

EDIT: Oh and how do you trade with people if Animal Crossing isn't online. Unless they were to meet each other, which I doubt. I mean like what people are doing in the Animal Crossing Trading Post.

So you would give your travel data to another Animal Crossing User and you'd get whatever you wanted magically. (This is my last question, I promise. It's just I want to know what the game works like before I buy it.)

let me explain traveling and trading

traveling
You travel because each town is different. Other towns will have different people, fruits on trees, and items in Tom Nook's store.

trading
Tom Nook gives you two options for trading, here password or say password. If you are trading an item, you take that item and tell Tom Nook here password. He will give you a password and you have to give it to the other person. The other person will do the same thing and give you a password. You go to Tom Nook and say the password to him. He will then give you the item.

This thread has gone off topic so if you have any questions, you can private message me (I think it is the lock icon in the upper right of my post).

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy - 8 Blocks.  Each memory card can contain up to 8 saved games.  Each saved game stores the information for 1 character of each type.

I'm going to give more details for GBA-GCN link. So far I only have Animal Crossing, and I'll do other games later.

Animal Crossing
GBA Game: None
You can visit your tropical island when you connect a GBA to the GCN. It is always summer on your island so you can catch bugs, go fishing or visit the local islander. Certain items can only be find on the island.

You can design your own patterns using the GBA. Designing patterns in your GBA does not cost any bells.

Metroid Prime uses only 1 block for both the main game save and the NES Metroid save. The other block is only used during saving.
Incredible that Retro could compact this save so much.

Aha so it does the same thing crazi taxi does. Needs 4 blocks for the save file but doesn't save over that file unless there are another 4 spare blocks on the card.

Star Wars: Rogue Leader is 3 blocks for 5 files.

Btw, can we distinguish between "player files" (as in player A, B, or C save onto one file of 7 blocks) and the "blocks" file (as in this game takes 8 blocks in general).

what do you mean distinguish between "player files"?
Pikmin -- 19 for three game files, PS
It takes 19 blocks and you get 3 game files

Resident Evil 0 - 9 per save file
When you save, it takes 9 blocks.

Do you just want me to change "game file" to "player file" to make it more clear? Also, # = blocks. If there is more than one player file, I just type out the number like three for Pikmin.

Like SA2:B uses 3 blocks for the "player file" and 8 for the chao data, but you can have up to 6 "player files" each 3 blocks each. Tony Hawk 3 has unlimited (I think) custom skaters at 2 blocks each. And Rogue Squadron needs only 3 blocks for all 5 "player files". It gets confusing and should be as explicit and distinctive as possible.
(more clear than I am apparently )
