I like this game a lot!  A little monkey ball, a little mario galaxy.  A shop that gives you reason to pick up the little blue spheres in the game.  And it's been a long time since I've played a game with lives, check points and game over screens.  It reallly puts me in a different state.  I concentrate more and I feel more from beating the level.

Very much worth playing.

I think, to call this a 7.5 out of 10, the 10 is what where folks imagine the game should be after all this time.  But that really isn't doing the game or the fanbase any favors.  You can dream big all you want, just don't loose track of reality.

Right now, I'm going through and beating the staff ghosts one by one.  And each of these tracks are excellently designed, and there is a ton of variety in the karts.  The drifting especially has never been more varied.  And from my play online and in the Grand Prixs, the weapon changes HUGELY effect the game.  I'm using far more strategy with only having 1 weapon.  The track isn't flooded with bananas like other games there aren't just stupid weapons flying everywhere.  There are definitely weapons but it's a GREAT balance.  And I love the coins.

It's easy to forget how amazing this series is or how much variety the series has.  But Mario Kart 8 really does do something different and for me, it makes for a great experience.

Yea, this is a bad review.  Mario Kart 8 is a multiplayer racing game, and the he barely comments on that.  He said it was "great fun" and that's about it.  The tracks, he had only positive things to say, but he complained about the formula.  Which there really aren't that many formulaic aspects?  Either way, he didn't explain why it was a bad thing.

And as for the weak 1 player stuff, and the uninspired battle mode.  That is every Mario Kart.  People still complain about IGN's 7.9 on Double Dash, and that game had the same great racing, and same weak other stuff.  But people rememeber it as a bad review beccause that racing was so damn good.

So for me, I would have prefered an in depth review of the racing and just a quick note to say all that stuff is weak like it's always been.

And do we know that they won't add some extra 1 player stuff like they did on the Wii?  The review didn't say.

Well, I bought it.  I liked this 1st level :)  I remember wishing I'd let the bad reviews talk me out of Sticker Star.  And after that, I did let the bad reviews talk me out of the new Mario and Luigi.

But Yoshi's Island is my baby.

"without going overboard in the exploration department." ??  But that's the whole game.  I don't know, this game is clearly getting panned.  My only hope is that reviewers aren't playing it to completion.  Which in the past, was where the games really shined.

oooh, that looks interesting

Well, it took some doing.  I bought the game on ebay.  I re-set up my Wii, found my gamecube memory card and controller, unplugged the dvd player from the TV since it used the same input.

I only had time enough to play the 1st grand prix but I loved it.  Those tracks are a lot of fun.  It's crazy to have loops and crazy turns and then a 90 degree or 180 degree turn.  I asssume they'll just get crazier.  And I really liked the idea of using my health for nitros, it makes the end of the race very interesting.

I haven't played the 64 one, I'm not sure if I'll have time to before the podcast but I'm definitely curious about that one now as well.  For some reason I only played the SNES one and though I liked I never got the other two.

There won't be any bosses in these modes, I don't expect.  The battle enemy mode is similar to the treasure mode, except there is no treasure, just enemies, and you get no points for bringing the dead back to the onion, you do though get more pikmin.

I love this mode, trying to get platinum gets very addicting.  I'll definitly be buying these up.

Hu, yea I'll do it.  I'll easily spend $100 on the eshop before too long.  I might as well take the free $10.  I see what they are up to but it would be silly not to take advantage.  My money won't get that much interest sitting in my bank account.

uh, Zen Pinball 2 is free to??  I just downloaded it :)

TalkBack / Re: Mario & Luigi: Doing RPGs Better Since 2003

As an RPG Mario & Luigi is better, but Paper Mario has better action, exploration and puzzles.  I enjoy them both but for the type of gamer I am, I enjoy Paper Mario far more.

My favorite is double dash.  And for items, I'm fine with the blue shell.  Since the 1st place player isn't getting hit with other items like the players behind them.  What I hate is stuff like bullet bill.  It causes too much damange for players in 4th or 5th place who are having to deal with a lot already.  And it's too tough to defend against.

I'm loving this game.  For me, the controls aren't a problem.  I think it's okay that I don't have perfect control over all the kirbies.

Like with the pikmin games, there's a special little art to coaxing that last guy into a spot where he doesn't get killed.  And with pikmin also, it's super easy to make a small mistake and have most of my guys die, but I just restart the level and try to not do that next time.

For me, if a game is a completely new experience both in gameplay and controls.  And if it's fun on top of that, the game has to be a 9.  Everyone wants nintendo games to control differently.  But I think to truely enjoy these games, it's best to give in.

This quote was a little nuts.  Have they not done this research yet?  But either way, I'm glad they know that that's what we want.  Hopefully the research will find more controllers and/or 3dss will work together and that it would be awesome!

I'm most curious about Nintendo support and online options.

so, i had a hell of a time finding and playing through the 6th temple.  there's basically a hidden city, you need to find the hidden temple.  and i found it confusing that i could get to the final temple, i just couldn't go inside.

but thanks to a walkthrough, i got to the temple.  i got the cross, but i couldn't figure out how to progress any farther.  so i went back to the walkthrough and it mentioned something about using a fairy while falling down the pit.  so i did this, but i must have done it wrong, because i didn't turn into a fairy until i got to the bottom.  and i had walls on both sides.

and i hadn't actually saved in a while, since with the VC, i can just go to the wii menu and come back exactly where i came from.  and it never really occurred to me that my progress wasn't saving.

so, after finding no way out of the room, i reset the game.  and the last time i saved was a long long while back.  so with that, i think i'm done.  this will remain the only zelda game i haven't beat.  but i think i'm okay with that.  i do think that this is an awful awful game.  there's a little magic here and there.  but you've got to go through some major sh*t to get to it.

i would say that i would absolutely love it, if another 2d zelda came out.  not a metroid rip off.  but the zelda formula, with traditional temples, overworld, and townsfolk.  just all in 2d.  and the smash bros. controls would be nearly perfect.  this is just a dream though.

5 temples in.
this is an odd odd game.
i thin the biggest thrill is that it's a zelda game but it's so different from the others.  you've got no one holding your hand and telling you anything which is really refreshing.  and the 2d controls, fighting, and exploring is great.

on it's still just strange.  i just beat a temple where i couldn't get to one of the keys.  but i was able to turn into a fairy and go through the lock.  what's with the invisible walls in the water.  some of these bad guys have very questionable hit points.  in the temples you can sometimes make it to the boss, before getting the special item.  and the whole map lay out.  it's all just strange.  the graphics when link is running down.

i'd say more but i have to run off to work.

This is your first post, Buttle. Welcome to the forums!

I'm hoping that I can play catchup on this title with you all once my first paycheck for my new job comes in. I only played it a little bit back in the day.

yeah, i'd been meaning to go back and beat this game for a while.  and this retroactive pushed me over the edge, so i figured i'd join in and be part of the discussion.

i've just finished the second temple.  i bought the game today, and it took me all afternoon to get to that point.  i've leveled up to 4 for all three.

i don't get why the townsfolk was telling me the candle was to the west, when it was to the north east.  i searched that west town up and down before i just started making my way into dark caves.  i don't mind the lack of help, but i could do without the misleading tips.

i'm remembering why i quit this game when i was younger.  it's the only zelda i haven't finished.  but i'm going to stick with it.

it's funny, i quit because an area was simply too hard, but back then i didn't know about leveling and grinding.  but now that i know what i'm doing, i can see it's a really funny system.  the trails, the fairies, the different enemies and different environments.
