June NPD numbers (i.e US numbers) were released not to long ago. They are back on page 106. NPD numbers are hard to comeby so no clue if July NPD numbers will be available.

Cubed3.com has a more statistics oriented coverage of June's NPD numbers.

Originally posted by: IceCold With all due respect to Nintendo, they have chosen a path that vastly differs from ours. The PS3 focuses on cutting edge technology for games and for multimedia; our Cell processor and Blu-Ray drive make the PS3 the most advanced of all the consoles in the upcoming generation. The "Wii", on the other hand, while capable enough to cater to its niche market, lags behind technologically. As you may know, the "Wii" is not capable of rendering High Definition textures, due to its lack of processing power. Some may even call it outdated when comparing it to our PS3. Taking this into mind, our manufacturing costs are sure to be higher than the competition. Since the environment is currently conducive to borrowing, we decided to take a small loan in order to ensure that the PS3 is ready on time. Furthermore, the people who will directly benefit from this loan are our loyal consumers. They will be able to get the PS3 and its second-to-none features for a low price this autumn. Our retail price is, dare I say, a bargain for anyone who buys it, especially considering the fact that some Blu-Ray players retail for more themselves. It is obvious that this strategy will pay dividends come the PS3 launch.

Yes, but the follow up question would be: Why didn't you pay for it with all the profits from your handheld system like Nintendo did with theirs?

As for US sales data...

Sony management felt profits should be returned to shareholders in the form of dividends.  Nintendo's management is a bunch of greedy punks who keep the money for themselves.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

First off, these are only Japanese sales numbers.. the other Marios did way better worldwide. I think Super Mario 64 sold 10+ million worldwide, and SMW did extremely well too. Also, BnM's chart doesn't include the NES, where the two highest selling Mario (and every other) games of all time were.

True. It's jsut too much of a hassle to grab all that data from the US market. But I think Super Mario 64 sold 5 million there when all was said and done. New Super Mario Bros has a long way to go to match that, if the DS starts to take off there like it has in Japan though, anything can happen. The NES Super Marios aren't included in that Japanese chart most probably since weekly sales weren't around back when those were topping the charts.

According to The Magicbox the overall sales of those was

Super Mario Bros.     6.81
Super Mario Bros. 3    3.84

New SMB should end up about the same as SMB3. I don't think it even has a chance of topping the original, we're going to have to wait for a mega groundbreaking industry shaking new Mario for that to happen.

Given that news of Sony's loan sent the stock plummeting, don't you think shareholders would have rather had Sony keep the money and not devalue their shares?

I would definitely keep hounding them like this...

Aren't the Japanese Xboxes somehow different than the NA ones? I think years from now the Japanese versions will be a highly prized collectors item since so few were ever sold.

Metroid Prime: Hunters isn't on that list.. I guess it flopped in Japan and didn't do as well as expected in North America. I'm predicting that New Super Mario Bros will be on top of that list before long.

Metroid Prime: Hunters was just a bone thrown to traditional hardcore gamers to keep them quiet for a bit. The real action for the DS has been in the less traditional genres, from non-games, to quirky titles like Phoenix Wright or Kaitou Rousseau, to Animal Crossing.

Australian Software Sales Charts for July 30th

3 DS titles in the top 10, only one XBOX360 title (Genuine Wireless funpack is a bundle with Kameo, Project Gotham Racing 3 and an extra Wireless Controller). Full price X360 games ($110 - 120 AUD) cant be selling well, Toys are us have already lowered all 360 games to $90 AUD or below.

Another thing Ive noticed is the in-store X360 demo games Pods are nearly always broken. Last week was the first time since they were installed I was actually able to demo a game, Ridge racer,  which was very good and the load times although still too long were much shorter than Project Gotham.

The top spot is not surprisingly AFL premiership 2006, which is our football game and it is almost finals time. Yes Nintendo if you want to win with the Wii here release a AFL game and also a cricket game so you win in the UK as well. The Wii is just perfect for cricket. WTF cares about shiit american football Madden in Australia (well maybe 10 people) we want our AFL and cricket games

Will Wii Win?
