Twilight Princess HD Confirmed Along With Wolf Link Amiibo
« on: November 12, 2015, 12:44:00 PM »

The worst kept secret in Nintendo history is official.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/41514/twilight-princess-hd-confirmed-along-with-wolf-link-amiibo

The Nintendo Direct opened with the reveal of the previously-leaked The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD.

The remake will launch on March 4 and appears to be a remake of the 2006 GameCube version of the title. In addition, a Wolf Link Amiibo was announced to coincide with it, and data from the game will work with the original Zelda Wii U game releasing later in 2016.

A bundle has been announced for the game that will include the disc, the Wolf Link Amiibo and a soundtrack CD.

Tantalus is either doing the port or helping along, which I think is the first time a developer outside of Japan has handled primary development duties for a mainline Zelda game. (Philips don't count.)

I pre-ordered the bundle, but the game failed to make much of an impression. I'm more interested in that sweet amiibo.

Eh. I'm sure someone will post a couple side by side pics to disprove my following comment but, watching the Twilight Princess footage, it really felt like I was just watching the same visuals as what I played on the Gamecube all those years ago. It didn't really look that visually superior and it didn't strike me as much of a difference from what I remembered the game looking like. Rather unimpressed and don't see anything great or new about it that would compel me to buy this HD version. I think if it looked like the Skyward Sword E3 HD Demo, I'd be way more excited and maybe that's my fault for expecting something that looked like that. I kept waiting for the footage to suddenly change to HD to show the difference and it never did. Ha!

The funny thing is I'd actually be willing to replay the game again as enough time as gone by since I first played it and the recent retroactive that happened on the game made me think about giving it a re-appraisal after all this time.

The mind plays funny tricks. The footage isn't impressive initially but side by side it looks better. The difference between this and something like Wind Waker though is that Wind Waker's cel shaded graphics are timeless and can be easily blown up to HD and still look incredible.

It's not just what you remember.  I'm in the middle of playing Twilight Princess right now and it doesn't look any different to me either.

Yeah. Brandogg sort of say the same thing as me in the HD TP thread in the Console forum. Watching the video, I see there is a difference in the details rendered but the problem is that they've just added those details while leaving the way characters move and their shapes the same. Plus, oddly enough, I think I like the yellow/brownish fuzziness of the original because it looks more like the twilight / evening time of the day that the game is supposed to project and capture. It feels like the Twilight realm is in the air and encompassing the Hyrule world and invading it more.

Well it is cheaper then buying a used version of the Gamecube copy. And Wolf Link amiibo is also very nice.

I wish they would have detailed the control scheme. Is it Gamecube style? Can I use my Gamecube controller adapter (this is what I'd like more than anything)? Is it going to be motion controlled with a Wii Remote?

Here's your head to head comparison. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSjP7qxsSzk
To me it's much crisper and there are a lot of new details and textures.

I'm very torn on this. While I can see the textures are better and the Wolf Amiibo is pretty legit (backwards compatability with Hyrule Warriors, please?), I am really going to have to see some effort being put into tweaking and streamlining the gameplay experience before I go for the pre-order (soundtrack is very appetizing for me).

I love Twilight Princess, I have the original Game Cube disc, and I played it to completion right before Skyward Sword came out (which I'll likely do with SS before the next Zelda releases), but the fuzziness of the game added to the atmosphere and made it a bit cozier. This game looks a BIT more detailed and sharper, and while I am very interested in what improvements will be made, it has to justify my desire to repurchase a game I've played three times since its release.

I can understand that especially where you still have the Gamecube disc.
I never played Twilight Princess. I was in college and newly married so I didn't have the time or the money. So I'm all over this.
The the soundtrack pre-order bonus something you get when you pick up the game or something you get when you pay for it?
I ask because the Majora's Mask Pin I was promised for pre-ordering Codename Steam...They were out when I went to pick up my pre-ordered copy (yes I showed up right after work on release day) It really pissed me off.

Twilight Princess is by far my favorite Zelda game but to be honest this comes off as more of a directors cut of the game then a remake.
This game looks a BIT more detailed and sharper,
The original Twilight Princess didn't have grass textures. Some kid just went through all of Hyrule and smeared a bunch of green and yellow crayons everywhere so we got that instead, I mean look at this:

I think this is more then "a bit sharper".

(I also think this image should be used in the article since it doesn't have one)

It is, it must be a mistype.

Pokepal, I watched the entire side by side comparison and yes, the textures are sharper and more detailed, but the models don't feel any smoother than they did all those years ago, and that's probably the biggest problem with this remake. With previous remakes like Ocarina of Time 3D and Super Mario 64 DS, there has been no improvement to the character models. While Twilight Princess may get a pass because it's got a nice looking Link, it still feels very similar.

New textures aren't going to make me shell out 60 bucks all over again. That's why I said, I would like to see more of this game's improvements before I pay for it.

Ocarina of Time 3d character models look way better than the original, but it's pretty obvious that if you redo an N64 game the jump is going to be more impressive than redoing a GameCube game due to the law of diminishing returns.

Right. In the case of a game with an almost timeless art style like The Wind Waker, you can do some changes to lighting and up the resolution and the game is still beautiful.

It feels, from most of what we have seen so far, that Twilight Princess has improved textures, and no real changes to lighting, and of course, we don't really know what gameplay improvements they might have made yet. I'm just expressing skepticism towards picking this game up. It's not even an in-house job, so I'm not sure Tantalus will feel they have permission to alter the formula.

Well I will still get it, sounds like some good news to hold Zelda fans over until NX which is where the next real Zelda is going to be.

Twilight Princess is my second favourite Zelda (Wind Waker is favourite), so Im very happy with the remake, especially if it is based on the far superior Gamecube version.
