Title: Ever Oasis ~ From the Creator of the Mana Series! (June 23)
Post by: Phil on June 18, 2017, 01:48:15 PM
I'm very excited to get Ever Oasis, and I'm hoping I can when it launches this Friday. Tomorrow UPS should return my repaired New 3DS XL to me, so that kicks monster butt! What a perfect occasion to play with it than a new game! For those uninitiated, here's an overview trailer for Ever Oasis, developed by Grezzo of Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D fame:

And Nintendo Treehouse's demo of the game at E3 2017:

Anyone else yearning to pick this up, or are there too many other games you'd rather get? Or are you just done with the 3DS in general?

For some reason, I was under the impression that this game had co-op, probably from the way it was unveiled as well as the director's history. Apparently, it turns out that it does not, which is really strange.

Without co-op, these kinds of games don't really interest me, so I may end up passing on it altogether.

Did you get to try the demo, Mop?

I'll check out the demo, but I'm in the same boat as Donk it up, as I would have loved there to be co-op in this game.

I probably should try the demo of this soonish.

Yes. It felt like playing Mario Party or TriForce Heroes in single player.

I can see the disappointment of a lack of co-op, but the AI actually does help out instead of being stationary like in Tri Force Heroes. The dungeon stuff and combat gives me a Crystal Chronicles vibe which I've been missing for a while!  ;D

Plus, I like the idea of it having Animal Crossing-like elements with the oasis and stuff!

Animal Crossing and Crystal Chronicles are both also games that are only fun in multiplayer.

Not for me at all. No, no!

EDIT: I like the town management, collecting, and such of the former, and the dungeon crawling and combat of the latter, but that's just me of course!

Can't comment on Crystal Chronicles but I sunk at least 500 hours of Animal Crossing: New Leaf in single player so I think it holds up without multiplayer.

It should be noted that I'm more of a social player, so there are certain types of games that I find boring and lonely in single player.

Does it count as single player if I left my town open while I was away and allowed Donkenada to come and go as he pleased to get all to that 500 hour benchmark?

Not 500 hours but the 500 trip/traveller benchmark. I pillaged your village something fierce after it was all over! :evil;

Not that I would have noticed. You probably could have made off with anything not bolted down and I still would not have noticed. Don't think I've logged in since we finished that badge for you.

Something about this sounds insidious...

Oh don't you go acting all innocent, Donk it up, you were present for a number of these rendezvous.

I want this game really bad, but I'm likely to get it months or even years down the line, sadly.

Bought it yesterday. Was already psyched for it at last year's E3, so I didn't want to wait (plus I hadn't bought a console game since DQ VII was released).

For those interested in the game, just be aware (and as said in the NWR review) that the game starts out very slowly -- doing quests and the like that introduce the game's various features and systems -- before giving you much more freedom to do things. I think it's worth the time, but I can see how repeated play-throughs would make this tedious, much like Twilight Princess or a game I played last fall, Disney Magical World 2, which also had an extended tutorial that went rather slowly and tediously.

Then it is removed. Not my intention at all and not the reaction I was expecting. My apologies.

See what happens when you go off-topic in one of my topics? But seriously, I hope things between you two remain well. We have a tight group here! :)

Would you mind posting your early thoughts when you get a chance, AnGer? Would love to hear other folks' thoughts on the game!

Sure.  ;D

So, here's some stuff. I should note that I'm still in the tutorial section of the game, so I can only write about that. Also I'll keep myself to gameplay bits for the most part.

All in all, there's little to complain about so far. Good pick, I can only recommend this.

How many hours did that take.

I beat the first boss last night, so Im still early in the game.

As an estimate, I'd say about 15-20 hours, roughly as long as the GC Zelda games.

I should note that beating the final boss is necessary if you want to build the Oasis to the maximum.

I've beaten the final boss and overall enjoyed my time with Ever Oasis. I played it on and off over the past month, but when I really sunk my teeth into it, I had sessions as long as 4 hours! It was enjoyable, despite the slow start and need to warp back to the oasis to switch characters when you don't have one in a dungeon with the ability required.

I tried the demo for this game and thought it was pretty good. The combat is a little week, perhaps it improves? I just don't know if I have enough time to spend on 3DS game of this size. :/
