Even if he's doing the same thing over and over - that's what he's being asked to do, and he's quite good at it. How many actors really play wildly varying roles between movies, anyway? The list is short.

So, anybody hear the news about Sacha Baron Cohen playing the great Freddie Mercury in his biopic?

We can look forward to "Freddie Mercury" appearing on lots of talk shows (Cohen almost never makes public appearances as himself, he is always playing his current character when he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno as Borat rather than as himself).

I was ignoring The Social Network until I learned it was written by Aaron Sorkin. Now I may watch it at some point.

The Social Network looks great. I really like David Fincher.

I doubt he's going to run around pretending to be Freddie Mercury... did he go on talk shows pretending to be his characters in Talladega Nights or Sweeney Todd?

was he the main character in either of those movies?
that might be the qualifier you are looking for.

I don't think that's the qualifier... I think it's about whether or not he created the character himself.

It's just odd that he's not doing comedy. To me there are certain iconic figures that I absolutely would not like to see tarnished.

considering this is Sacha Baron Cohen regularly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0b_lTEgICw

than we should be pretty good. He looks like Mercury, he just has to change his accent and go higher pitch. I'm confident in his acting, because the guy knows how to be in character.

I thought the same thing Perm thought when I heard the news. He'll need some accent coaching, sure, but I think he'll do a great job. Borat and Bruno might have people typecasting him in their minds, but those are just two movies. Of course, there was the Ali G Show, but I think you need to give the guy a chance to show his range. Even if it's a helluva chance, playing such a beloved figure.

Scott Pilgrim was amazing, ONLY because Edgar Wright directed it.

Go watch Shaun of the Dead (STILL one of the greatest zombie films of all time) and watch Scott Pilgrim again.

I was bored out of my mind with Shaun of the Dead, easily one of the worst movies i've ever seen (and easily the worst zombie one). If that is a example of what Edgar Wright does with films, then my interest in Scott Pilgrim just dropped even more.

i'm hoping that is sarcasm, but it is a Tj Spyke post

also, note British people aren't allowed firearms, hence the comedy revolving around how much ill equipped they would be if zombies attacked.

I'm sure many will agree with me when I say "Your opinion in movies sucks".
Shaun of the Dead was one of the better/best Zombie movies made.

and while we're on the subject of dead people, the remake of Let Me In is looking pretty damn good.

I wasn't the fondest of the original since the subtitles apparently didn't really match what was being said and it was a little boring the way it was shot.

I checked out Shaun because it had good reviews, but I hated the movie. For a comedy, it didn't exactly make me laugh either. Some people love the movie, there are hundreds of movies I would rather watch than it.

Also, not true about firearms in the UK. They are extremely restricted, but you can legally own guns there. Basically the allowed ones can be found at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_the_United_Kingdom#1997_Firearms_Act).

Black, you can think what you want. I will not pretend to like a movie that is boring, and there are so many better zombie movies.

please name a few, I've seen a lot and SotD is one of the better ones.

Another one off the top of my head that was really good was the Dawn of the Dead remake.
28 Days later was cool and so was the 1980 remake of NotLD.

But SotD was anything but boring and even though it wasn't gut-busting funny, it was still very humorous.

i also looked up that wikipedia article and

they don't have the right to arms, they have the license to arms to be more clear. Also, concealable weapons and handguns are pretty much entirely banned with only 0.1 percent of the population owning any.  Still licensing restrictions and low popularity keeps the ownership level down, contributing to the hilarity of a zombie attack. Yes the average British person would have to fight zombies off with old records and cds, the only available rifle would be a historical one in a tavern several blocks away.

Maybe I could try watching it again to see if my mind has changed, the last time I watched it was around the time it came out on DVD. IIRC, a lot of the "jokes" were typical British humor and I don't find that funny. I will be fair and check the movie out again with Netflix.
