Picross, Dr. Mario and more join the ranks of downloadable titles in Japan.

This week featured a relatively beefy release list in terms of game software as four new downloadable titles joined the constantly growing library of games available on the eShop. This coupled with the persistent video content means it is a good week to be a Nintendo 3DS owner in Japan. Here is a look at what arrived:

3DS Downloadable Titles
Gin Boshi Shougi 3D (Silver Star Chess 3D) – 800 yen
Picross-e – 500 yen

Virtual Console
Dr. Mario – 400 yen
Pitman – 400 yen

Video Content

A new streaming 3D video featuring a recently released monster rhythm game called Ushimitsu Monstruo is available in the 3D video section this week. The game looks very similar to Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan, except it features cute anime monsters dancing around. Also with the recent delay for Super Pokémon Scramble in Japan, Nintendo also put this information up in the form of a video on the eShop. It's basically the Japanese press release sitting on a static page for 15-20 seconds, and then another segment showing the date change from July 28 to August 11.

A new television commercial for Minna no Rhythm Tengoku, a four minute video for Nazo Waku Yakata, and normal additions to Itsu no Ma ni Terebi and Nintendo Video round out the video offerings on the eShop this week.

Software Impressions

I have yet to purchase any of the new software this week, but believe it or not, the recently released Pitman has caught my eye. Also known as Catrap, the game puts the player in many situations where they are trapped and need to retrace their steps. To do this, the game introduced a time rewind mechanic, which would later serve as the basis in games like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Blinx: The Time Sweeper (on the original Xbox). Expect impressions for this game next week after I purchase it and play it.

i have to question the value of Dr. Mario when you can buy a superior version via DSiware shop !!!!

Also, isn't Dr. Mario the first game link VC game on the eShop? I don't suppose there's some sort of shell interface for that.

I believe you are right, yoshi. Despite that, the page on the Japanese Nintendo site doesn't mention anything about multiplayer and just lists it as a 1 player game.

I figured as much-Dr. Mario was the only one I was sure about having 2-Player. I wasn't terribly hopeful, but seeing as how I didn't get to play many back on the real GB (I'm sure for most people it was Tetris, Pokemon and nothing else), it would have been nice to finally have a shot.

The DSiWare version of Dr. Mario is pretty bare-bones, so I doubt it's that superior to this one, and this one can run off the SD card, meaning I don't have to clean the fridge to get it on my 3DS.
