Mafia LX: Holiday Murder Mystery Mafia - 2nd Day of Christmas
« on: December 11, 2013, 01:56:17 AM »
After the previous disruption was cleaned up, the party was back in full swing. Music was pounding and the drinks were flowing. Out of the conversations an argument broke out. Khushrenada and Spak-Spang were arguing over who could have killed the girl. People began to point fingers and tempers flared. The growing consensus began to be that Nickmitch had to go. He was keeping to himself off in the corner and did not like talking with anyone. A fight broke out as people disagreed on how he would have to go. The lights flickered out and someone screamed. As the fight subsided and someone pulled out a flashlight Nickmitch, the Townie, was found to be dead on the floor. But that was not the only body discovered. A closet door popped open and Mop it up's lifeless Townie corpse tumbled out with a THUMP. The killer had struck again and Mop it up, the Townie, was their latest victim. The crowd stood in silence at the implications this weighed on them.

Summary

I don't think Khush is mafia.  I think he made a mistake on Nickmitch.  He warned us, he was unsure about the vote.

Khush, Spak, lolmonade, Glados, and Toru were all leading that bandwagon.

Let's think about Khush being a possible mafia member: he's always placed on a pedestal, and can use his status up to a few days and send as down all sorts of wrong pathways. This could also incriminate Spak, who has been defending him consistently. Which is too simple to do because of the previously mentioned status.

Let's think Khush is a townie: the mafia can easily benefit off of a wayward Day 1 vote. Then, they can just as easily vote out whoever started it under the evidence that they voted off a townie. This indicates Toru as a mafia member, possibly Stevey, who conveniently showed up today and didn't utter a word yesterday.

I believe Mop was targeted because of their one post, it probably gave them the indication that they are a power role. Thankfully, we didn't lose Santa or any other power role.

I think you're a little quick to defend Khush, and I'm concerned your hasty response to a Khush vote is a means of preventing a comrade mafia going down.  unvote Spak-Spang.

For the record, Santa has contacted me. I was giving an investigation kit. If I wanted to screw things up for the townies, I'd have taken him out last night.

My investigations were on Mop it up and Glad0s. Both were revealed as a townie. Doesn't mean Glad0s is innocent (could be the godfather) but for now, I have little reason to suspect him.

Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

Not that I need to throw more focus on me or get another vote but that really doesn't make much sense. You're concerned that I'm mafia and since Spak tried to quell the angry villagers out for blood, he might be mafia protecting a mafia buddy. Thus you'll vote for him while everyone else is voting for the other person that you also think is mafia instead of voting for that person also to help get rid of such an obvious mafia member. That makes no sense to me.

Right now, I'm going to stick with where my little evidence and suspicions lead me. There are two people I suspect of being the godfather. Surprisingly, one of them is Pokepal148. Therefore, I will un-vote pokepal148 for now.

*Takes a drink of Bourbon

I've been thinking about what happened yesterday and based on my observations I currently suspect Spak-Spang.

Firstly, Yesterday he voted Nickmitch who we now know to have been an innocent. That in itself isn't suspicious, but the fact that he took the path of least resistance by seconding Khushrenada's vote for Nickmitch suggests to me that he was interested in creating a bandwagon against a Townie who until that point had shown no inclination to deny the claims.

He even tried to cover his tracks by making the vote seem nonchalant, saying "As for a wild guess vote...heck I don't know. Vote:  Nickmitch"

The decision to align his vote with Khushrenada, who from what I hear has played a pivotal role in previous games, suggests to me that he wanted an easy win for day one, but also sought deniability when Nickmitch was inevitably revealed to be innocent. In fact, he has already subtly tried to shift focus from himself by saying "I don't think Khush is mafia.  I think he made a mistake on Nickmitch.  He warned us, he was unsure about the vote." In that one sentence he has tried to remind us all that Nickmitch was Khushrenada's idea, while also seeming to stand up for Khush, therefore hopefully retaining a useful alliance should he need it.

I also suspect Spak-Spang of being a time traveller and believe him to be too dangerous to keep around.

Add your vote to mine Partygoers and if I'm wrong I promise to commit Seppuku over by the punch bowl.

VOTE: SPAK-SPANG

In Spak's defense, (our standing up for each other is probably going to get us killed but so what at this point) it was my idea and I sent him a message asking him to work with me and give me a chance on the vote. I pretty much had to petition for all the votes against Nickmitch that day. So, I am the more guilty party on that vote. And if we were mafia, no way would I let myself and Spak appear so aligned with each like we have been.

I had a feeling things were going to go south on the Nickmitch vote when he never showed up at all and there was no pushback. If it was a mafia member, I would have expected a bit more of an argument against the vote. There was only Glad0s showing up at the end to vote a different way. He changed his vote but I decided to investigate him to be safe. Mop it up's vote was likewise a useless vote telling us nothing so it seemed suspicious. I still hoped I was right about Nickmitch and that maybe the mafia decided it best to let him go and not fight for him to stay hidden but it turns out they didn't have anything to worry about with the vote.

I don't think it's that irrational.  I think you or Spak are equally plausible to be mafia.  You had two votes against you off the bat, and I want to split the vote a bit (makes the game more interesting if everyone isnt' voting for the same pesron).

If Spak is mafia and gets voted off, then I come after you.  If not, then at least we'll better know whose trustworthy in that instance, and people are free to bring their pitchforks towards me or those voting against you two.

That said, I think I want to put pressure on more silent players to speak out before I solidify my decision, so they better pipe-up, otherwise, unvote Stogi.

Gonna go ahead and post this:
Votecount:
Khush = 2(stevey, Toruresu)
Toruresu = 1(Silenced)
Pokepal148 = 1(Khushrenada)
Spak-Spang = 1(Pixelated Pixies)
Stogi = 1(lolmonade)

So far Lucariofan99, Insanolord, and Stogi haven't talked. Interesting considering Lucario is known for being loud.

Stevey didn't appear yesterday but is now in attendance.

I think what is interesting is that as soon as I made my information post, lolmonade and Pixies all followed the Spak route. Would be a perfect way to frame me should a bandwagon go south.

Just some food for thought.

If I am the godfather I am currently unaware of that, I must be really good at tricking people into thinking I'm a townie if I have been able to fool even myself. :o :o :o

Sorry I haven't been a part of this so far, I forgot it was happening and my sleep schedule is poorly aligned for it right now. Doing what I can to readjust. I'll echo Silenced's concerns over Lucariofan and extend them to Pokepal. Players without much experience in these games who get picked to be Mafia can cause a lot of damage because they get overlooked by more seasoned veterans. I'm not necessarily accusing either of them, just throwing that out there.

The case I put forward today was based on thoughts that I had been mulling over yesterday, but I was not confident enough in that case to make it the basis of my voting. Having now Seen people's reactions to yesterday's events, I am now much more confident. My opinion has not been swayed by anybody's comments.

Also, I understand that the rules can't be changed once the game is in motion, but I kind of feel like non-contributors who stay quiet should eventually fall ill and die, at which point their role is revealed. Maybe a 2 -3 day rule for instance. Just a thought.

I have seen enough, I firmly believe khush is in the mafia (or playing a very risky mindgame). I withdrew my vote yesterday as a means to prevent myself from being targeted by a mafia started bandwagon for a poor voting record like last time but right now I am certain khush is part of the Mafia. No doubt he sees me as an easy target to get rid of via vote due to my being a newer player so he can save his kills for more experienced players who could pose a threat to him. TBH if I were mafia it would be a strategy I would consider.

vote khush

Insanolord and Silenced make good points, it's too easy to let the new players slide past without much scrutiny. The same thing happened in one of my first games, if I remember correctly, and the mafia was able to get away with their plans for a long time because no one suspected the new guys.

I think for the time being, I'm going to Vote Pokepal.

There's a reason Khush is a permanent mod on this subforum, and that's because he's a master of this game. Whether player or host, nobody does it better than him. And going after a relative newbie is usually a good way to raise suspicions, so I'm inclined to believe he has something of a strong case to go against you to this degree this early in the game.

In response to Pixelated Pixies comment about inactives dying: Some hosts do include inactivity death clauses. I chose not to since there were a lot of 'new' ideas in play. I wanted to see how the activity based investigator role played out with participation without the threat of inactivity hanging over players heads. Besides, there will always be inactive players. I don't recall any game where everyone participated.

Poke, the way I did the vote count was voteoption = numberofvoutes(playernames)

Seems as though Khush and Poke are on the spot.

Arguing that Khush is mafia here: I've already stated the benefits he could gain off of that due to his status and such, possible Spak partnership as well. I think it's noteworthy that both Spak and Khush were in the top spots in terms of running for the Boozer role. Giving the mafia that sort of power is a huge advantage.

Arguing that Poke is mafia: could be trying to capitalize off of a Day 1 bandwagoning mistake. And who is a bigger threat to the mafia than Khush? Once he starts naming names, he has to be taken out as fast as possible, and with his protection last night he was able to escape death. That paves the way for wrapping together a bandwagon against an experienced player. Possibly a Poke + Toru + Stevey team here, the fourth member I'm unsure of.

I'd appreciate it if some of the accused or other silent people drop by with some opinion. Eventually the town will go crazy and vote out inactive players simply on the grounds that they haven't spoken enough or at all.
