It is midnight and Gotham City sleeps.
But not everyone, for there is eviiiiilllll afoot in the Gotham City Art Museum.
"Who's there?" asked the bumbling security gaurd upon hearing a noise. But the only answer he received was a club to the back of the head.
The next morning at the Police Commisioner's office, Jim Gordon was given the news of the daring robbery.
"What do you make out of it?" asked Detective Bullock.
"Trouble," answered Commisioner Gordon, "All the priceless works of art available to steal but only
redacted was stolen. Why?"
"Maybe the thief has a passion for art," suggested Bullock.
"Maybe. But something doesn't sit right with me about it. I think I'm going to go up to the roof for awhile," Jim stated.
"Aw geez. Why'd ya gotta get the long eared freak involved?" Bullock grumbled as he left the office knowing he wouldn't be able to persuade the Commisioner not to fire up the batsignal.
And once more, the Bat Signal lit up the sky. Cue that groovy music.
Jim Gordon stamped out the butt of the cigarette under his foot.
"Still trying to quit?" asked a cold deep voice from the night.
"Figure you'll scare me to death first before these things can do any damage," answered Jim, startled by the Batman's arrival.
"Sorry. Force of habit," answered the Batman, stepping out from the shadows. "What's the situation?"
"I don't know for sure. There was a robbery at the Art Museum a couple of hours ago. The only thing stolen was
redacted. I know it doesn't seem like much but something about it just strikes me as off especially with what else is available to take from there. Wanted to make you aware of it. Hoped you could lend a hand maybe or if you have any theories on it," explained Gordon.
"A few," Batman answered, "None good."
"Commisioner!" yelled Bullock, bursting through the roof top door, "We got trouble!"
Upon seeing the Batman, Bullock slowed down to a walk and came over to the two men.
"Great. I can save myself the trouble of tracking you down Batsy," declared Bullock, "Word just came in from Arkham. The Joker has escaped. Appearantly, he poisoned one of the guards with his toxin and left him in his cell as a decoy while he escaped in the uniform. Arkham is unsure how long of headstart he might have."
"Joker's top proirity. I'm on it. I'll get back to you on the Museum heist as soon as I can," declared the Batman, then he turned and ran into the shadows and off the roof.
"You do that Bats," Bullock snarled into the cold night air.
Meanwhile, at the Iceberg Lounge, an innocent place of business.... OR IS IT?!
Two mysterious figures are conversing when the Penguin approaches their table.
"Quack! Gentlemen. I will be brief. Here is the monthly agreed upon sum," said the Penguin, setting down a small envolope to the table, "As well, word has just come in that the Joker is loose and on the prowl. I'll be taking the necessary cautions and suggest you do as well."
Then he turned and left.
"The Joker. He would have to turn up at a time like this," seethed the first figure.
"I think it could be a positive thing and help keep focus away from us," replied the second figure.
"I don't know. The Joker has a way of finding out about things like what we're planning. He could end up giving us more trouble than we expected," cautioned the first figure.
"Well then, if he is going to get our in our way, we'll just have to take him out," said the second figure.
"I don't think it will be as easy you think," replied the first figure.
"Nothing worth doing is easy. Now let us depart," said the second figure, motioning to leave.
The two people then got up and left to pursue their nefarious business. What could they be scheming? And how will it affect the Batman and the people of Gotham. Stay tuned to find out.
