This game is classic Nintendo. Low barrier for entry, high bar to master. And 4 on 4 multiplayer is perfect. Who the **** cares about the bright colors (team fortress), the gameplay is smooth and action is intense. This should be the system seller if Nintendo can keep their eyes on the ball.

Seems like English is not your first language. You need an editor to correct some errors. The review gives the impression that it was rushed.

It's not the games. It's the services. Poor online connectivity, assumes everyone needs to be in a "safe" environment, assumes the tech level of everyone is low (thanks, Apple). Nintendo wants to hold your hand rather than let you learn how to fly.

The basement is dark, dank, and smelly. The door always needs some lubricant, and you can't get out without tracking some mud with you.

General Chat / Re: Do you enjoy anime?
« on: March 29, 2014, 12:43:18 AM »
My intro was with the older series Americanized: Battle of the Planets, Voltron, Tranzor Z, Robotech. Mighty Orbots was awesome looking yet so empty. Then Akira, NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind, Bubble Gum Crisis, Vampire Hunter D. They were a breath of fresh air compared to the after school stuff of GI Joe and Silver Hawks. The nineties was pretty barren for me with anime. Ghost in the Shell was the big one, with some Street Fighter II. I couldn't get into MD Geist or Fist of the North Star. I really hated the transition of the look of most anime from what Sunbow was creating to being more silly like Dragon Ball. Still do, though Teen Titans grew on me. Studio Ghibli is where God works, even if all the characters from every movie look the same and everyone has the ability to raise their hair.

I picked up the latest Appleseed metal books when they were released a few years ago. The second one was directed by John Woo. The first one I enjoy quite a bit. The second has this boring love triangle arc, ugh. Who the **** cares, I'm here to see giant guns being fired by robots half the size of the guns while running and flying at the same time.

PAX East sold out so fast this last time. The year I did go, I didn't get to hang out with anyone other than who I went with.

The Uncle Bob Basement Adventure was fun. I'd like to do it again. Only more embarrassing photos need to come out of it. Right Ceric?

Yeah, so some history was made today and I'm going to brag about my high school basketball team. For the first time in the school's history we made it to the final 4, and claimed victory! Lebron James' old school is in the same division, too.

I use RKill, TDSS Killer, Adwcleaner, JRT, Revo uninstaller, Malware Bytes, and Tweaking. Norton is used for external scans. I also do some good ole fashion detective work of digging through the registry for crap, loading the hive to another system. I haven't had a need for Spybot in quite a while. Hitman Pro is also redundant. ComboFix is still something but I only use it if it seems nothing else is working, probably used it once in the past 4 months. Security Essentials is in the same boat as AVG and Avast, far too easy for the viruses to get past.

I have my thumb drive tool box, but only use it after a drive is scanned by my scanning pc.

Covering schools can be quite a challenge. I know maintaining the wireless network is quite a task depending on the budget you're given. I'm sure there are some kids that do their darndest to **** things up too.

Norton 360 is the resource hog. The plain anti virus and the Internet Security packages are lightweight.

So, I haven't been on these boards much mainly because I'm busy with work. I have a shop in a town that doesn't have a competitor, so I see a lot of systems. And I have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't work in regards to virus and malware, ransomware, encrpyted files, whatever. If you can think of it, some kid is going to find it and get owned like a bitch.

Anyway, here's some observations:

Windows 8 gets viruses. And it's a pain in the ass thanks to the limited boot options.

I recommend Norton or Kaspersky. Enable Boot Time Protection. I have seen every other av solution out there get infected, the worse offenders are the free ones. Theoretically every av is vulnerable though.

If you have Java installed, keep it updated. The majority of infections come through an old version of Java. And uninstall those old versions, too. Or just get rid of it completely.

Stop browsing the web as the administrator. The Limited Account User can find porn and warez just as easily.

Bleepingcomputer.com is a great resource for programs. Tweaking.com also makes an awesome program for getting things back in order after an infection.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: When did consoles become so complicated?
« on: December 08, 2013, 06:54:12 PM »
The first two, I don't know/care. I just care that if there is an account system to track purchases that it isn't tied to the system where it was purchased.

Innovation is difficult to nail down. Mainly we are going to see streamlining or a different spin on an old idea. And really, those tend to be the most accepted. Radical ideas don't usually have all aspects nailed down, and some copycat and come along with a new spin and get it "right".

"complicated" is subjective. Can you provide a game and its aspects that you perceive as complicated? Or a number of games if you think the trend is going in that direction.

I do think games like The Witcher/ Monster Hunter are complicated, due to the nature of the stat building process, but it's that learning curve and once you get over the hump, then it's second nature. The challenge of the game is to be rewarding enough to encourage players to get over that hump. Actual button pushes are pretty nominal, except fighting games, in which case, yes they are complicated and I have a distinct lack of skill/desire of those games.

It could be said that Nintendo sees 'core' as 'core Nintendo fans' rather than a more generic gaming fan. But, as seen in the last couple of generations, core Nintendo fans do not spread the wealth. They buy Nintendo products. And it could be argued that many gamers have at least two consoles and their 3rd party money goes to that other system. Except we've seen so many quality exclusive 3rd party games flop on Nintendo systems that it gives the impression that Nintendo is the home of the frugal gamer.

There is of course, one logical conclusion: Nintendo wants to only have 20 million or so consoles sold per generation. They know their market penetration, they know how favorable or unfavorable they appear to the loud mouths on the Internet.

Nintendo is systematically and deliberately communicating a particular message. And this message is weeding out those that Nintendo does not want to do business with. Nintendo sells toys, not entertainment systems. And they are kicking and fighting all the way to stop from selling entertainment systems, probably because: they don't have the experienced staff to provide such a system; and the backbone and upkeep on such systems is tremendous, which is why Microsoft and Sony are charging for their online services.

What's difficult for us is that Microsoft and Sony are changing the metric upon how we judge gaming as a hobby. It's easy to lump Nintendo in with MS and Sony because they all basically do the same thing. I know I want Nintendo to step up to bat and directly compete, but it's not their business plan. All they want to do is make money with as little effort as possible. Not saying that making games is not hard. They do that very well. It's the bells and whistles beyond the games. They don't have a way to monetize that effort in a meaningful way that promotes their basic message.

Some of us, including me, need to accept this fact, understand that Nintendo does things for a purpose, and that even though we do not comprehend the purpose all of our dialogue on the Internet is not going to sway Nintendo to our way of thinking.

I would also say that there are 3rd parties that listen to fans, and have tried to get Nintendo "in-line" with the rest of the industry, and failed. This I believe is the biggest reason there is a lack of support for the WiiU, and will continue to decline for each generation after. And makes certain companies' focus on mobile so odd, because mobile systems are so close to gaming toys rather than serious gaming systems, while also would seem that Nintendo would be a great fit. Except that Nintendo would have to make their own smart phone to control the environment in which their games exist and to make sure no one else profits from their games.

Reading this has been entertaining. It's great that you are getting a hands on crash course on building a computer. SMH on converting serial port to vga...

I know you are shooting for price, but I generally stay away from AMD due to heat issues.

As for upgrading to Win8.1, yes, do it. Though things change from 8, they are good changes. Read this:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfeplat/archive/2013/10/17/exploring-windows-8-1-start-screen-and-start-button-options-and-configurations.aspx

So, make sure you have a good external drive for backups. I recommend the Seagate Expansion. USB 3.0 and the 4TB is $150 on Amazon. I also recommend RAID 1 for your data drive, but you'll have to get an identical in size hard drive, and then you'll have to save all the data somewhere while the array builds as it will wipe the info. Finally, I recommend Norton or Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Make sure you turn on Boot scanning, which fights off Rootkits. I've seen 100 computers in the last 6 months in my shop and any AV program you name I've seen except those two. Granted, my town is not a great slice of the Internet, but it is a bit of info. Norton 2013 is $15, 2014 is $20 on Amazon (get 2013 cause it upgrades to 2014 after install).

Backups are best in triplicate, so use a cloud backup for the important stuff.

They look better shrunk. If you follow the link to the miiverse and come back to this page, a larger pic is in place and it's easier to see how they were done. Still, the control to have on the drawing pad is amazing. I wish I had the time to dedicate to building that skill. If only yeahs could be turned into money.
