If you never had a DS you should go back and explore that library through backwards compatibility. There's a lot of good stuff there.

StarFox, Resident Evil Revelations, and the Etrian Odyssey games have been my favorite 3DS titles. For DS compatibility I really enjoyed Dragon Quest IX, GTA Chinatown Wars, Contra, Castlevania, Megaman Zero Collection, and WarioWare DIY. My taste in games is weird, so take these recommendations with a grain of salt.

My purchases over the past couple of weeks:
* Lego Batman 2 (Wii) - One of the last Wii games I wanted to add to my collection, finally found a very cheap copy online.
* Scribblenauts Unlimited (Wii U) - Paid "too much" at $20, but really wanted to play this with my kids. The DC Heroes version had been on sale for half that price, but seeing my son laugh as we put Mario and Boos through their paces is worth the extra expense.
* Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (Wii U) - Wish there was a physical release, but pretty happy with this otherwise and can understand why this is digital only. Not a huge fan of beat'em up games but the RPG elements really make this one shine.
* XType Plus (Wii U) - Wow, this is really enjoyable in short bursts. Highly recommended.
* Kirby Super Star (Wii U VC) - Club Nintendo reward.
* Super Punch-Out!! (Wii VC) - Club Nintendo reward.
* GTA: Vice City Stories (PSP) - Kind of like having a stacked PSP Go ready to take with me anywhere. For $2.50 I'll bite on some portable GTA.
* Xenogears (PSOne Classic) - Sadly, bought just because I'm curious about the weak Xenoblade connection and because I was adding funds to my PSN account anyway for GTA (above).
* Humble Indie Bundle 12 (Steam) - So less than $8 for Gone Home, SteamWorld Dig, Hammerwatch, Gunpoint, LUFTRAUSERS, and Papers Please... with more to come later?  Sure, I can bite on that. After this gen I'm planning to bow out of consoles anyway and go for the cheapest Steambox that will play most of the games I already own.  At that point all I'll need is to win the lottery, retire, and finally have time to play all these games.

Edit: Wow. Didn't realize how much I bought until looking at the list - that's like $50 wasted on games this month. Stressed at work, and taking it out on my wallet. Oh well. At least they've got good company in my backlog.

I bought NHL 15 and Destiny for PS4. Had them preordered on PSN, so they were pre-loaded and ready to go. I watched the NHL countdown click down to zero and started it up immediately at midnight.

This.Lots of great stuff. So much more and better than what the GBA had.

Brought Rimworld, a good looking Dwarf Fortress like game with none of the terrible UI and obtuse gameplay. It is still alpha, and it won't have the sheer depth of DF, but more importantly, it is playable.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD (Wii U)

Bought for $20 at Walmart Canada, which is convenient because I just sold my old GameCube version for $20.  Honestly, I'm not sure whether the benefits of the HD version matter. The GameCube version still looks gorgeous and plays extremely well... but since it (essentially) didn't cost anything to upgrade, figured I might as well have access to off-screen play.

Trust me, once you try the Swift Sail, you'll wonder how you ever tolerated the original ship speed.

I was at Game Stop today and picked up two new PS3 games, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, and Virtua Fighter 5. Then the sales person pointed out to me that Hyrule Warriors was out today so I picked up a Wii U with Super Mario 3D World/Nintendoland Bundle and grabbed Hyrule Warriors. I am STILL waiting for the system update so once I get through that I have to call customer support back to get that data transfer going and then I should be playing some Wii U games sometime latter today.

At first I thought this was just a GameStop bundle where they give you Super Mario 3D World when you buy the Wii U system, but looking it up it appears to be an actual boxed bundle from Nintendo. I can't find the exact date it released, but it was sometime this month, and some places actually say the 28th which is tomorrow so not sure what is the official date.

Bought Tales of the Abyss and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D in a buy one get one free sale. Technically, both are for my brother, but I'd like to at least try Tales of the Abyss.

Skylanders: Swap Force (Wii U)

Target Canada is blowing out the base sets for $18, with individual figures for $3-5 apiece and sets of 3 figures/things for $7.50.  Got the Giants game for Wii a while back; my kids loved it and I was rather impressed with the quality. Not keen on keeping up with the latest gimmicks in this series, but for under $40 we got a whole bunch of Swap Force stuff to set aside for Christmas.

the guy at Gamestop told me it was a brand new bundle and it was ALL he had in stock so he sold it to me anyways. If you take into consideration the cost of those two games it basically brought the Wii U price down to where I wanted to jump in anyways so good deal by me.

Well it took a while to get the hang of navigating eshop but I figured it out, mostly. I ended up buying Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, Abyss, and Swords and Soldiers.

I almost re-bought Swords and Soldiers when they released the HD version but then we finally got an announcement for S&S2. Loved the original on WiiWare and glad to see the game and studio still doing well.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge: Flash sale at Best Buy ($8).
Hyrule Warriors: Hell yeah.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

You won't regret Tales of the Abyss.

I won a bet that resulted in me getting $40 worth of eShop credit, and since I have no patience it was burning a hole in my pocket and I ended up buying two games I already own on Wii U Virtual Console, Mario Golf: Advance Tour and Metroid Fusion.
