Although trying to reduce my purchases lately, saw Fritz Chess (DS) for $15 and couldn't turn it down. Will probably flip this game for others, as it commands a pretty high price from collectors and on eBay.

So I traded in Animal Crossing because seriously f**k that game (and Nintendoland, the game I did a trade 1 for to get AC). With the credit I grabbed an eShop card and turned that into Mega Man X and Mario World on the VC, was able to use up the 20 Club Nintendo coins to finish getting Mario 3 and Metroid 2 off CN, and crossed a threshold on the Deluxe program that let me get Bugs v Tanks.

That's a trading sequence that would make Link jealous - one hated game for another, then turning that into five games ranging from interesting to "I'll hear the argument for best game ever".

I had 390 Club Nintendo coins expiring June 30. I have zero interest in Metroid II, I already have the Super Mario All-Stars disc for Wii (so no SMB3). I ended up getting F-Zero X and Link 'n Launch (Club Nintendo even uses a quote from NWR for Link 'n Launch) and now have 40 coins to use before they expire on June 30.

On the fence about buying Super Luigi U. On one hand, my daughter and I will love playing it, on the other hand it's only 135 minutes worth of game play, if you run the timer down to the last second in every level.

Assuming you manage to get everything in every level on the first shot. Which I can safely say, you won't unless you're some sort of 2D Mario savant.

Also, it's a great vocabulary builder.

Since no one seems to care about the other "recent..." topics, I'll just post here: I recently picked up Muramasa Rebirth (Vita), Hotline Miami (Vita/PS3), and Project-o CrossaSONE (Project X Zone - 3DS).  I also got Mario & DK: Minis on the Move, a game that really kind of sucks. I doubt I'll play much more of it after having completed a good 30-40 puzzles.

Incidentally, seeing Muramasa on the Vita's screen led me to changing my Dragon's Crown reservation from the PS3 version to the Vita version. Vanillaware games just seem made to be played on that screen, and that kind of brawler seems to suit the handheld experience better than the console experience IMO.

I bought a 3DS XL today (so everyone waiting for a neat new color scheme keep your eyes on the announcements the next few weeks). I transferred all my stuff from my original launch day 3DS without any issue. I haven't played much on it so far, having other things to do today, but man that screen is gorgeous. Sure, it's not as high-resolution as a Vita or even the Wii U GamePad, but it's really big and bright and I think it's fantastic.

Bah... more purchases that I should turn down, but didn't.

WarioWare D.I.Y. (DS) -- Not sure if it will replace Petit Computer as my preferred creation tool, but I've been interested in trying this game for a while.  $1

Glory to Heracles (DS) -- Reviews aren't great... but it looks like a decent RPG and I'm a sucker for the genre. $1

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings (Wii) -- Frankly I bought this for the Fate of Atlantis unlockable more than the actual game. Very excited to give Fate of Atlantis a shot... even if this was considerably more expensive than the other games.  $5

MySims SkyHeroes (Wii) -- I  have kids, and this was $0.50.  No further justification needed.  Heck, at that price I'd buy just for a spare Wii case.

Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition (Steam)

Fighting games don't get much better than this. The only downside is that all of the pre-rendered cinematics look like crap now that they've escaped their console confines. On the plus side, the rest of the game looks gorgeous. It's super sharp and super clean.

I just bought Firaxis pack for 20$.

Not sure why, since it's extremely unlikely i will get to play any of these games in coming years...

Yeah, it does indeed look muddy on consoles. Still, a great game, story mode is amazing. Don't want to buy it the second time though.

Two more cheapies:
  • Create (Wii) - $0.50, low expectations but my daughter liked the box art and the price was hard to argue with.
  • America's Test Kitchen: Let's Get Cooking (DS) - $1, after being really impressed with Personal Trainer: Cooking this was an easy buy.   [[edit:  Ok, looked through the game last night. Have to say that I'm disappointed - out of 300 different recipes there are only a small fraction that I have any interest in trying at all. The international flavor of Personal Trainer Cooking appealed to my family much more than the very domestic lineup in America's Test Kitchen. Still ok with the value... but glad I didn't pay very much.]]
But the big news today is what arrived in the mail: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC). Very excited about this game. Maybe it won't live up to the hype, but the price was reasonable (not cheap) and I'm a sucker for RPGs.  This is the last GameCube game I cared about enough to look for.
