This is probably the wrong forum but it's the right people so, bear with me.  Have any of you read anything about the PS3 stuff lately.  I tend to read it every once and while to keep up as a knowledgeable gamer.  They insist that they are going to still release in the Spring why everything indicates they won't be ready.  After reading through some of the news about it instead of getting more excited I keep getting more and more turned off.  Did you know that Sony is now on the record of saying that it will not output 1080p to keep the processor usage down and the framerates up.  Didn't they promise dual screen 1080p?  Theres also another rumor stating that there going to sell the unit at $900.  What is beleived to be the components price.  This is after CNET went "Wait that can't be right" about the original report and recrunched the numbers to find that they had to agree.  God of War 2 is going to be on the PS2 and launched in February of 2007.  If you ever played the game it screamed Next Gen for the sequal.  I don't see how it could push the PS2 anymore.  The more I read the less I want it, grant it I wasn't that excited about it to begin with.  Just read through some of there stuff and they are doing a terrible public relation job.  Sony seems squarley(sp?) aimed at there feet.

Then I see the Rev launch hype.  I'm stoked and I'm sure since your here you are too, yes that includes you too Ian, Nintendo isn't giving me that much information and is playing games but they haven't broken my trust about any of there information yet either.  Which is very important.  When looking between the two the PS3 launch has all the stuff that we Revites crave but I don't know if that would be the best thing.  IF rumor is true and Nintendo will soon have everything in place to start Revolution Production gearing up for the Worldwide launch then it becomes sort of clear why they would wait.  Especially when I use the PS3 as a lens to focus it.  If Nintendo starts produce the release Revolutions before E3 lets say the week before.  That way every machine at E3 is a production line box, everything pretty much set and ready.  There won't be any surprises.  At that point the hardware will be locked down and only the firmware and software could be changed.  Then you can make your announcements.  You could also hold back on showing off features by just not showing any software that utilizes them.  You sent your trusted press home with one and an agreement to not take it apart, *cough* Hard[OCP], then everytime you announce a new feature, "Hey whats this Demo disc doing in my Mailbox" or even better "My Rev says theres a new Demo for Download now."  That way you get the announcement out and the astute reviewers will be able to put there 2 cents about it also.  I mean they would anyway but they would have actually tried it.  This would make nice sense.  Nintendo would also get the added benefit of having some non-internal testers so if there is anything that really does need addressed before launch they can have it ready to go.  Being Nintendo there could be a negligible cost to being allowed to have one.  Sort of like a press pass.  A package that Nintendo would ensure that you get a copy of all of there announcements, artistic material, review materials on upcoming games, etc.

Closing Thought:
If I didn't know anything about Nintendo and Sony and there past consoles and standing I really would think that Sony looks like a joke and Nintendo is stingy.  (Ok, even knowing how the last gen faired I think that Sony is cocky.) -Ceric

Nintendo Gaming / Tecmo as a Rev Developer
« on: February 14, 2006, 04:52:19 AM »
I just got my hands on Monster Rancher 4 for keeps this time.  It's great.  In fact I like most of the entries into the series for different reasons.  They are all different with the same core.  Train monsters, battle in tournaments, proceed on.  I always thought that this would be an interesting series to go to Nintendo consoles.  The fit seems to be there.  For the people who liked Pokemon but would have preferred more control.  But for one obvious reason it has never came.  This is going to require a little explanation.

See in Monster Rancher you unlock Monsters by either stone tablets found in the game, combining monsters, or (and this is the biggest way) getting them from DVD's, CD's, and other games.  Since the Cube had no support for different media this limitted what it would be able to make Monsters from.  Now with the Rev DVD has been confirmed.  Even if you must have an attachment to play it straight I'm fairly sure that developers wouldn't need it to access the contents to say generate a monster perhaps.  What would be even cooler is if you could use your Virtual Console games to generate monstesr as well.

I mean you can see why I would want them to develope for the Revolution but seriously enough they have some franchise that would fill some holes.  Looking through there site they now tend to make more, I'll use adult, games.  Games for an older Demographic than G.

In short I think it would be a cool idea, plus they have a long history of game developement that would benefit from being available on the Virtual Console.

Nintendo Gaming / Look at this Virtual Console Concept

This was on IGN.  Just some fan fic type stuff but I personally wouldn't be disappointed by that sort of interface.  It is acceptable.  Unlike that survey one.

Nintendo Gaming / "Knowing" what we "know" now; thoughts?
« on: January 14, 2006, 09:11:44 AM »
I wanted to get this up before the next big announcement was made.  Think of this like when we were speculating about the controller.  If we lock down the things that we beleive to be true as of 1/14/05 and all the good and the bad are true.

What this means is that with all indications from that survey.  The VC will have games to rent and games for buying.  The buying price is $19.99 for N64 games straight and I believe it was $2.99 for Nintendo games or play any game for $14.99 a month.

The controller as is with no secret feature or additional add-ons besides the Shell, Nunchuku, and the controller itself.  Gamecube accesories, due to the backward compatibility, are admissible. (Meaning Microphone, Bango, and Dance pads.)

Rev has wi-fi capability.

2-3 times the graphics power of the Cube.

For simplicity sake we'll assume due to the backward compatibility that the Rev can hook up to a TV and sound system in any fashion as the Gamecube. (This means s-video, component, composite, rf, and to a monitor with an adapter box, (Yes you can hook a GCN all those ways.  I have all the cords to do it.), and on the sound side RCA cables).  That also means a max of 480p.

This will also mean that Hideous menu interface from the survey.

As for Media it has been said that the Revolution will be able to do the DVD thing so we'll assume GCN discs and plain vanilla DVD storage (4.5 gigs).  No variants.  They might come in with a DVD that holds 10 gigs but for this we're locking down what is confirmed and all things that aren't given some references in size assuming the smallest.

As for the internal flash memory it's been said it is suppose to be 512mb.  It's up to you whether the drive is able to be used by the user.  I personally beleive that that drive will only be available to Nintendo and Developers.  Also, because it hasn't been mentioned, assuming since it's internal that it will not be able to be upgraded.

Saving can be done through the GCN memory cards, backward compatibility again, or through the flash card memory slots.  Which for this can be any size you can afford and used for anything you want within reason.  That being said since it hasn't been confirmed or denied you may choice to assume that Nintendo will be following an SD standard and therefore allowing accesories to be added using those slots as well, like on a PDA.

DS Conncectivity.

Same type of Ram as the Gamecube.

There will be launch titles.  Some will be from third parties and rumor has it that SSBO is going to one of the first party ones.  This is sort of a sticky part for the spirit of this post.  There are no truely confirmed games.  There confirmed that there will be games.  But none are confirmed.  I personally would like to stay away from "If it launched with Star Fox Revolution it would r0x0r.  They sell like a billion and it would kick     "  Though it might be unavoidable.  I like to keep the brand names out of this. (Except for SSBO becaues at least it's slightly confirmed and anything that is on the past systems because they have, through interpretation, been confirmed in a way.  At least all the GCN games.)  Now genre you beleive would make the launch strong and the like would be constructive.  I mean the new IP has been confirmed.

Rumor has it Nintendo may already be starting production.  So I will be happy to make the assumption that there will be no immediate shortages at launch.  Nintendo's pretty good about not bungling the number of needed launch systems.

The system will be the size of three stacked up DVD cases.  I know Nintendo stated that it will only be getting smaller at the last e3 but they haven't updated the sizing specs so were going with those.

I'll leave it to you discretion whether the motion sensor bars are long bars that stretch to you tv or just sensors you put at the edges.

If the video is any indication the system itself will be able to be turned on and off vy the remote.  You may use that if you like.

That all being said, and it's a post full, I personally beleive, that even with these Stats, that I will get a Revolution at launch.  My GCN has seen better days and I like to play Battalion wars, something it won't do now.  Looking back over this though it would be an underwhelming launch.  It be like going to the store and there it was with all the games.  "Wow, when did that launch."

So everyone have fun.  I hope you at least find this somewhat interesting.

Nintendo Gaming / CES: Thoughts?
« on: January 07, 2006, 03:54:28 AM »
You know doesn't the show sound like a great place to release some information?  As of yet though there has been nothing.  At the very least show the "concept" controller and system to the "public" get some more press coverage.  Have the demo video playing in the background.  Could have reached a lot of non-traditional gamers becaues they show that type of stuff on morning shows and HGTV.  But then how could they compete with the toilet that can give you your complete health status and is heated.

I've been thinking about this and it would be very un-Nintendo like to let people trade there games around for free.  Then you get into that whole rom thing.  I personally believe that each Revolution will have a unique codec chip that when you download a game it is ran through and the last bit of encryption is finished.  That way it would be unique to each Revolution, like a Mac address.  So you could then store your games on your computer and Nintendo wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.  They would keep a record of your purchases and allow them to be downloaded to any Rev that is registerred to you.  The backups themselves though would not be transferrable in a usable way.

Save data wouldn't be effected.  I mean if you want to share your saved game to the world then so be it, but it would be run through the hardware compression/decompression that I would like to see built in.

These are just my thoughts.  Feel free to way in or point me to the thread I missed that already discussed this.
