TalkBack / Re: Rumor Cats: March Nintendo Direct Leak Edition

I would rather see GBA on the 3DS as well, but I assume that the NX will do that instead. If it's based on the Wii U architecture, those GBA games may be available day one on the NX.
Also, SNES games are fundamentally CONSOLE games. They really, for the most part, don't lend themselves well to portable gaming. I wouldn't say no, but I'm happy to leave the SNES games on the Wii U.

Fake GBA carts: Make sure you buy from an Ebay store, they guarantee the carts are 100% genuine. I have had no problems at all so far with the big sellers.

Zelda Amiibo: Guru-Guru - The music box guy. When you tap him onto the PAD, you get a Song of Storms playing in the background. And maybe it rains :-)

I'm 60 hours into XCX, probably won't finish for a month or 2. Can the spoiler cast PLEASE start off with impressions, likes, dislikes etc THEN...  move into full on spoiler territory? That would be lovely. :-)

Great episode! Love hearing XCX impressions, I get to play in just 2 days (xmas!).
About 12 hours into Steamworld Heist and utterly addicted. The physics/feel of the game are just perfect.

@Kobeskillz I haven't started playing yet, but this 'ticket' business sounds important! I'll be looking into that ASAP.

If this is similar quality to 'Dig, it's a day one purchase for me.

If the NX is based on Wii U tech, the home console version may have a a DVD drive to allow it to play all your games, with either your old PAD, or, a new Wii U PAD (presumably a revised/upgraded one).
Or do you think it will be digital only, saving the cost of the DVD drive?

Either way, the NX is basically going to launch with the Wii U library ready to go, I assume, and for a LOT of people, those will feel like new games, having missed Wii U.

Also, games like Splatoon and Smash will be ready to play day one, which is pretty useful, as those games have very long legs.

I'm still hoping for a DVD drive, or DVD attachment though, as I am mostly physical for my Wii U and I would love to just do a day 1 transfer to the NX, chuck the Wii U in a drawer, and carry on like nothing ever happened.

OK, that's it, my sole purpose in life is now to get an email read so that I can suggest the title screen music from Metroid Prime as the outro music. Although I would also settle for Phendrana Drifts.

Outro music. Best idea ever. Who knew?

Thanks for the wonderful show, many hours of laughs and entertainment. I have no doubt it will continue on and pick up its own rhythm. Best wishes Jonny!

Wonder if it supports the GC adapter from Smash. 4 GC, 4 Wiimotes + Pad = 9

The bosses in Echoes are supposedly easier, if they are, god help you if you play the Gamecube version because they are still hard as balls.
Alpha Blog is still one of the scariest bosses in ANY game EVER because the save spot is about 15 minutes before hand... And they didn't fix THAT!  Lol, Alpha Blog... Never have my thumbs sweated so much! You scary fish!!!!

After 5 years of Wii SD blue ocean games, (Galaxy excluded) N goes nuts and makes arguably the best versions of their games in HD aimed at hardcore gamers (NSMB, 3D World, Pikmin, Smash, Bayo etc) and the Wii U is still floundering. I'm in heaven, but apparently most of the rest of the world doesn't give a crap, I don't want to live anymore  :-[ .
If N goes under, that's it, I'm done, i'll just play Super, Prime, Zero, 1000 Year Door, ALL TEH ZELDA and Yoshi's Island and Galaxy 1 and 2 on a 4 year repeating loop. DONE.

« on: January 27, 2015, 01:44:14 PM »
I still don't think "Leg Up" is really correct though. As 90% of 3DS owners still have a non-new 3DS this means MM will have the same 3D immersion as OOT.
Combined with the fact that a new 3DS owner who purchases both OOT and MM together will get exactly the same benefit from the enhanced 3D...
So the "Leg Up" is that new 3DS displays 3D games better and MM just happens to be the newest? OK. That is certainly true. But it's not a leg up. It's just new tech. The game has nothing to do with the new 3DS really.

Yes, but why does MM have a "Leg Up" over OOT... All 3D games on the new 3DS are equal. What does "Leg Up" even mean in this context?

Just wondering if you can clarify this statement: "Thanks to the New 3DS XL, the face-tracking also allows me to not lose the 3D effect when moving the system around, so this feature has a big leg up over Ocarina of Time."
[/size]As a new 3DS owner, I immediately fired up OOT and was blown away by the unbreakable 3D effect. I assume you mean that when OOT was RELEASED it did not benefit from the unbreakable 3D? Because all older 3DS games are now friggin awesome thanks to new 3DS :-) MK and Smash are unbreakable!

After Hearing Jame's thoughts on this in the telethon episode, I may have to track a copy down. I love me some quirky DS games. TWEWY was my #1 DS game.

I really like the idea of using the existing Amiibo in sports games. Perhaps a little like Blood Bowl, a Mario Amiigo gives you a Mario themes team, and will play VERY differently to a Kirby or Sammus based team. Sure, pick Soccer and then watch as your Mario team runs around throwing fireballs and coin punching while the Kirby team sucks in your guys and steals their powers, while hitting you in the face with a hammer.
So 1 Amiibo gives you an entire team, themes to that character. Soccer, Baseball, etc. Only 1 Amiibo requires, but if you wanted to experience a very different team, then buy a different Amiibo.  Oh, and make the damn game online :-)

I like these small little additions, the Amiibo doesn't break the game, it just adds a little flavour. I would expect to see these little touches in all first party Nintendo games from now, until Amiibo are no longer sold. Great idea for kids. I'm fine with this.

As a new 3DS owner (from New Zealand) I hate to break it to you, but the new 'nub' would be utterly unusable as a 2nd stick.
It has almost zero tactile feedback, its just a hard piece of rubber, the only way you know it's even working is the fact that when you push it, something happens on the screen, like a smash attack.
I believe that apart from a few rare cases like Smash, you will find it PRIMARILY used for camera control only.

As for Amiibo discussion, rumor is that once stock is gone, they will make "card" versions of the characters. This gives me hope that we will indeed see Marth being used in a future Fire Emblem game etc, and that the Marth "chip" is pretty easily available. However, the Amiibo itself will not be.  I assume they will look like a credit card with a pretty picture. Also, if the card rumor is true, expect to see Amiibo supported well into the next cycle of Nintendo consoles. Amiibo is here to stay.

I think you only skimmed over the best announcement: Tournaments.

Presumably, you can set up an online tournament and then we just enter the one code to "join in.
Why arrange a weekly session with friends, when you can have a weekly tournament with anyone who is interested!
This, combined with what appears to be pretty good online play (if the 3DS is anything to go by), will be a fantastic way to spend an evening. If for example, it was a NWR tournament, I;m sure you could meet fellow Smashers and add them as friends afterwards, if you wanted.
I think ultimately, tournaments is what will give this game some serious legs.

My one and only wish, for this fantastic game, is that I could play 1v1 with random people on the stages as they were designed. Not the Omega (Final Destination) variant.

The fact you can do this with friends proves it's not a limitation of the online, it's a deliberate choice. :(

There is only so much FD I can handle, why did they disable all those fantastic stages?

GC Controller: I own 4. I used them for Melee. I used them for Brawl. Do I want to use them for Smash U? Of course!

It's just that simple. Anyone who loves smash owns 4 GC controllers... I don't care if the controller is not perfect. I don't care if it's 2014 and we are using a decade old controller. I use a GC controller for smash. All my friends do too.

Nintendo will let me use my 4 GC controllers for Smash U?

THANK YOU.

Clean off the dust, the Smash controllers are about to go round 3!!!!!!
