Title: Oculus Quest 2: Entering the VR from the comfort of my BR
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on December 29, 2020, 01:59:40 PM
Hey Everone,

got an Oculus Quest 2 for me and my daughter for Xmas.
Never really used VR before, so I was immediately blown away as this was very cool and kinda disorienting

Anyway, I would really like to get the most out of this that I can, so looking for the best experiences the Quest VR has to offer.

I just got my high speed Link cable in the mail yesterday, so I'm looking to expand into Qculus Link, Steam VR and whatever else that link should bring.

Games I've currently bought so far are as follows:
- Beat Saber  (crazy game)
- Vader Immortal pt1-3 (haven't gotten past the tutorial yet)

Other software includes:
- Echo VR
- Netflix, Youtube, Prime VR
and any other "free/demo" I could come across.

Congrats on joining the VR revolution  8)
Beat Saber is my favorite so good choice there. I also have Space Pirate Trainer which is like a VR Space Invaders. There is a demo so just try that out first. My new favorite is Dance Central which is a VR dancing game. I think it is way more fun than Just Dance but the music selection might be the deciding factor. I wold also recommend getting a VR counter-balance like the one here (https://vrbalance.net/). It really helps stabilize the headset if you move around a lot (which you totally should be  ;D)
I almost forgot, Superhot is really awesome. I played on PSVR, but think it would be a better fit for Quest because you are standing and moving around.

Super Hot looks Super Hot, I might pick that up.

I have the Space Trainer demo. that was kinda cool. very short demo though.
I'll check out Dance Central, and some sort of VR Balance power pack combo thing.

Hooked up my Link Cable, and I guess i now need to upgrade my computer and build a new one to get the most out of some of these VR games at High Resolution.

edit: link to computer upgrade thread. Looking for advice

Jsut discoveres SideQuest.com for some more independent 3rd party games.

This video put me on to it, and being able to easily access it direct from the headset, your phone, or from your computer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGkIUuQmlHY

just added some of the suggested games and plan to try them out later.

Also got the new computer set up
Ryzen 7
RTX 3070
32GB RAM

and I still get "your computer does not meet the updated minimum requirements for Rift Gaming" message. Some of the games i saw it on require some sort of "Sensor" for 3d spacial awareness or something, and other require a gamepad, but at least one didn't require any of that, and I still got the message.

I haven't downloaded them yet, because I don't want to burn through my now imposed "data caps" on comcast at the beginning of the month, so I need to connect my computer to my cellphone wifi and download everything, as I have unlimited 5G on my phone. LOL

Maaaaan.... now that I got all these games downloaded (over my 5G connection. LOL)
the controllers decide they no longer want to hold a charge, so we can't even play the damn games.

With absolutely no help from the Oculus site or manual regarding the controllers themselves, I had to resort to the internet (just like w/ that Coolermaster Water Cooler in the computer thread), to find out how to even access the battery compartment or that I was able to access the battery compartment to access a rechargeable 1.5v AA Battery. So now I had to order that for delivery, while I continue to find the best way to sneak a charge.... I guess I'll burn through a regular AA battery if they are also 1.5. I have a bunch laying around.

Yeah, it is tough to get much support from Oculus. I had a problem with something and just used forums where users had posted the fix. I have the launch quest and my controllers just use regular AA batteries so I can't help you on this either.

I slapped in some AA batteries and my daughter played for a hours. worked fine.
I have some new rechargeables on the way, so that's all good.

I sent in a request to the Oculus support, but I'm not expecting much from them.
I reported a Red Dot that sometimes shows up in games, and they acknowledged my complaint, but said nothing more. It comes and goes, and hasn't shown up in the last few times we played, so I'm not too worried about it tbh, but they didn't offer any sort of fix/replacement that I saw, unless I missed an email somewhere.

Anyway, we are having trouble figuring out the ROBLOX VR mode.
we followed instructions and loaded it through he Rift Connection, but never become "GOD MODE", always still just a character.

Any insight on how to make that work?

Did you try the directions in this article?

Nope, doesn't work.

I don't get the option to switch to VR.
It even made re reinstall the game..... because I apparently didn't have it... while it was already running.

Damn, I hope you figure it out.
I remember the problem I had now. My library would not appear in the home menu so I could not access any games. After getting nowhere with technical support, I searched the forums and they provided a fix. I still can't remember what that was though.

Got it to work!!!

had to download the new Roblox Player, which opened the roblox website, and then when you start the game through the player on the website, it opens the app and through the headset you are now in VR mode.

previously, I just tried to go through the website or the app.
the website would lead to the app, and even going straight through the app didn't work.

OMG. My daughter is TERRORIZING the poor Roblox characters in VR Mode while citing anime!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Edit: she was referring to The Promised Neverland demons, to be specific.

Good to hear! I think that is one advantage to PC Gaming is the ability to fix problems like this. With consoles I feel limited to small hardware fixes and if there is a software problem I don't really know what to do.

I haven't tried it yet (or looked into it in any way), but I just ran across this post from myself almost a year ago
https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=16627.msg967507#msg967507

someone playing Half-Life VR
can I just download a SteamVR app and play games on the Oculus?
do I need to buy new versions of games? or if I own Half-Life and Portal is there a free VR patch I can play using the Oculus, because that would be awesome. Totally worth the upgrade to do it again, but in first person.

I think so but you would need the quest to be connected to the PC the whole time.

If you could patch non-VR games to be played in VR the would not be great looking. There is similar technology for making 2-D video into stereoscopic 3D and it never seems to work well enough to be worth the hassle of wearing something on your face.

I downloaded the SteamVR but couldn't find anything related to Half-Life VR

downloaded a bunch of the free games for now to check them out.

What VR games are worth paying for on SteamVR?

What kinda upsets me though, is that for the Quest 2, I bought a few games before getting on the Rift setup, only to find some of them FREE on the Rift... :/

now just found one for free on SteamVR that was full price on Quest 2 and Rift I think.
The climbing game. (if it's not the exact same game, then it looks pretty close to the same, but I'm not gonna go look it up right this second.)

Edit: I started playing a game called Propogation on SteamVR.
That got intense quickly!!! LMAO
I banged my hand on the fan in my room 3-4 times really hard trying to whack zombies in the face because I couldn't reload my gun fast enough!!!
My daughter was laughing waaaay too hard (I was too...but it hurt.)

just know that some of the games I paid for on the Quest 2, were actually FREE once hooked up on Oculus.

Like the Vader series and a few others.

I also recently bought Minecraft on the computer so my daughter could play Minecraft on the Oculus, but the Minecraft App on the Rift doesn't seem to work now....
I'm gonna try to troubleshoot it maybe tomorrow, so I hope it's something simple to figure out.

This has me excited to play RE4 again. Do you know of any Quest 2 games that don't work with Quest 1? I may have to upgrade.

I played Oculus Quest 2 a week ago. I also was not too into VR. I was sort of a VR Skeptic. But I had a great experience.

Has anyone picked up a Meta Quest 3 yet? If so I am wondering how much better it is than the second gen model.

I heard it's a nice leap forward, but it's also a lot more expensive.

I'm waiting till the price gets cut in half before even thinking of jumping in.

Same here. I decided to get the PSVR2 instead last year, but I still would like to play some of the newer Meta games.

Sounds like the PSVR2 is supposed to get a PC hookup.
I've never used used it, but does that mean it's gonna be compatible with all/most the VR games available on PC at some point?

Sounds promising, but my guess is the game your playing needs to already be PSVR2 compatible, but now you can play the PC version? Do you have a link for where you read this?

I actually read that blog post but did not pick up that last line about PC support. The messaging is strange "we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more game variety in addition to the PS VR2 titles available through PS5. We hope to make this support available..."
I am reading that as not just playing PC versions of Playstation games though. Then it would have to connect to Steam or Epic store right? Personally I would have to do some rearranging to get set up for VR with my PC as it is not part of my home entertainment set up, just where I do work. Still, to play Half Life Alyx or Fallout 4 VR it might be worth it.
