Podcast Discussion / Re: RFN Special: Jonny's E3 2001 Audio Diaries
« on: April 29, 2011, 11:50:58 AM »
*Probably gonna email you this, in hopes you might discuss it on a future Podcast or something.

Just got a chance to listen to this thing in its entirety, and gosh I envy you John. This was about 10 years ago.. so I'm guessing you were in your late teens or early 20's? I just wish that I could be doing something like this in my life right now. I'm passionate about gaming, but my knowledge isn't as great as yours was here. I think the reason for that is because I've had no real reason to be knowledgeable about gaming in the first place. It's like the ending of your diary explains, no one is interested in gaming to the degree I am. And it sucks! I've gotten to know a few people online who I am close to, but even they don't seem like they are interested in the way that I am. I listen to you guys on the podcast, having these great conversations, and to be honest, at times I am overwhelmed by how technical you all get with gaming terms and such. But anyways, I want to end this ramble and ask a question which I hope you see and don't mind answering. And that is….

What advice do you have to someone like me who wants to be able to do what you were doing, during the time of this audio diary? I really am interested in gaming, and I want to learn about Nintendo, report on Nintendo, and write my thoughts on Nintendo. (If I'm playing a game, it’s usually by Nintendo.) But the problem is, I don't feel like I have the writing ability and gaming knowledge to do so. Did you ever feel this way before you got into video game journalism John?

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Regrets Wii Self-Marketing
« on: April 27, 2011, 02:31:53 PM »
I'll tell you right now that Nintendo better be serious about this. The 3DS gives me hope, but for some reason I just can't allow myself to forget the mistakes of the Wii.

#1  Firstly, they expected a gimmick to NOT get old. ALL gimmicks will eventually get old, they are only a way to sell your product to the mass. Once it's sold, you must find a way to make that gimmick actually benefit the experience of your console. Which if you're a Wii owner, you know this was not the case most of the time.

#2 Like this article says, they did not build a strong relationship with with the 3rd party. In this day in age, this is a MUST; they provide new experiences to be had for those looking for games OTHER than the Mario's, and Zelda's out there. Believe it or not Nintendo, as fun as it is, people will eventually get tired of saving Hyrule from Ganon.

#3 This ties in with 3rd party support; 3rd party developers, DO NOT want to develop for last gen hardware. No I don't care about graphics, they do not make a game. But do you really think 3rd party developers want to put in the time and effort, to develop for a console that is essentially GameCube 1.5?

I love you Nintendo, but come on... Step up your game this time around. I'm tired of Microsoft and Sony getting all the 3rd party action.

Someone should really make a De-vamped remake of this game man!

So get on it! Even without any coding experience, you could easily customize a program like RPG Maker and mold it into what you want. 2D Zelda is the best, anyway.

Lol, idk... wouldn't it just get canceled?

And...

Update #3

Well I went ahead and outlined in darker color shades, and added Adult link. Other than the gloves, face size, it's not really that much of a difference.

57
Oh Okay I see.. That stink then I guess...

Here is a small update, now he doesn't look like he is staring you down, and I added sleeves! ^ ^

I has Ocarina of Time on the mind... Someone should really make a De-vamped remake of this game man! But with better sprites of course... It be really fun to play ocarina of time like this. And yes this is young link, I don't know if I am going to do adult link because he is already so small..

Anyways, let me know what you think?

*Is there an Art thread around here btw? Or a better place to post stuff like this?

I really am hoping this game turns out well. I don't know, it seems like we always put too much faith or hype into these 3rd party games on Wii. I myself am always guilty of doing so. For once I just want a game to amaze me, and actually have a chance of a sequel. Who else here is tired of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts? Let's see if these guys can turn this thing into a franchise, instead of a 1 hit wonder not becoming anything else. It looks great so far, so let's hope it can deliver.

This seems like a much more motivational way to learn the art of keyboarding. While most of us on this website would demolish this thing, kids would get a head start in typing more efficiently with it. And I was wondering if there was a keyboard add on, at first I was thinking it was going to use the touch screen, and I was asking myself how was that gonna work. So yes, glad to see this.

Hey, this is pretty good news.

Also BlackNMild, thank you for clearing that up... that makes sense.

So does anyone know if it's Okay to get my 50 bucks back from my preorder? Will stupid gamestop give me store credit or what?

I don't really have a vast collection, I also haven't completed any of these games.. so I am not worried about what I will be playing on my 3DS while I wait for Ocarina of Time.

Also, here is Mario my dog. I thought it was only necessary to spice things up.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: 3DS Availability

I Pre-Ordered only a few days ago, and the people at Gamestop took my order without question; but I'm wondering if they are aware of how the tragedy in Japan, could change their stock of Pre-orders. I've never Pre-ordered a system before, but I've heard stories of Gamestop  sometimes taking more Pre-orders then they have systems available.

So far the only games I want are both remakes. Ocarina, and Star Fox 64. But they really need to make a new Star Fox game... remakes are okay, but at the end of the day that is what they are, just remakes. They don't add to the story, they just repeat it. So for now... I will go with this entire remake movement Nintendo has going on... but I expect some new games, (hopefully with the rest of the franchises as well, and not just Mario.)

Will we see the classic Pokemon on the 3DS? by Supa "Nathaniel" Kirb- 3/16/2011

I was thinking a little more about the 3DS today; and something I really was thinking hard about, was if Nintendo is willing to port the classic Pokemon franchise on the 3DS's virtual console. Now obviously I know we all expect this to happen, I mean, it's something we all would enjoy seeing. So I thought to myself, from a business standpoint, how couldn't they do it? But then I started to wonder, how would the trading process work? As you may recall, the first Pokemon games could connect to each other using a trading cable; and it was such an awesome thing back then, being able to battle + trade with friends. It's one of the features that made Pokemon so successful after all. And let's face it, if you want to have the full Pokemon experience, you need to have a friend with the game opposite of yours. That way you can, as Ash Ketchum would say, 'catch them all.' (Or you might have been a little smarty/rich kid, and bought both versions with multiple systems. But that is just sad to think about, and I imagine it takes away from the 'Poke-experience.')

Anyways, I guess my thinking here is, is Nintendo really going to bother with putting the classic Pokemon games on the 3DS? Knowing full well what fans would expect someway to trade and battle? I know they could probably just modify the games so that they could connect wirelessly via 3DS. But think about this for a second, they would have to do this to every single version. That means, Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver,  and Crystal. They would all have to be modified. I don't know, it almost seems like too much of a hassle for them. I think It also depends on how high they are going to be pricing game boy games. I don't believe they would be willing to go to all this trouble just to make 5 bucks a download. I for one wouldn't mind paying a little extra to play some classic Pokemon.
(Also, little side not here, if you couldn't guess, this has been my attempt to write an article. I want to gain some experience so I can write some reviews in the future.  I know I probably miss use some punctuation at times, and my wording isn't the best, so any tips/advice would be most appreciated.)

Well as you know I have about $51 bucks from Amazon for my game trade-ins. I was going to buy 2 new DS games with the money, Probably Pokemon, and  either Mario 64 DS or Crono Trigger.  But  Because Crono Trigger is about 14 bucks, I will just be getting that and donating the rest to the American Red Cross's Tsunami relief effort for Japan.

Anyways yeah... it's not much, but it's something. I thought I'd take one for the team. And besides, I love Japan, so it's money well spent.

Also, thank you for all of your replies on this topic, didn't think I'd get so many lol.

Words can not explain my feelings toward what has happened in Japan. I have never been there, but I do watch Japanese youtubers. Amazing and lovely people. I am thankful to them for showing me how beautiful the culture in Japan is. I will be praying for them most definitely. It just sucks feeling so powerless when there are people out there need your help. (Looking to donate to relief efforts as soon as I can.)

God Bless You Japan.

I really don't want any of these games, I think I'm just gonna buy some classic RPG's on the DS to hold be over till something good comes out. Heck, I've never played Crono Trigger, I should pick that up with my 3DS.
