The World Ends With You had me interested. Tron: Legacy sealed the deal.
Can't wait to get this game.

My favourite Nintendo NPD stat for this month is that Wii Play Motion did <30k. It got beat by Child of Eden and everyone thinks that was the daughter of all bombas (Shadows of the Damned, at sub 30k combined, is the mother.)

Shame. Both of those games were really good.

I would buy it in a heartbeat... if it was Symphonia. Instead it'll take me two heartbeats.

Aw crap, I got innovation all over my hands. I need some anti-innovation to get it off. *grabs a Vita*
I kid, I kid.

All I know is that, like the 3DS, I'll be suckered into buying the new system at launch. Once again, I would tell me friends that "It seemed like a good idea at the time!"
(Edit: I actually like the 3DS, though. It's just that I don't want to wait two months for games that I want. A man cannot be content with Street Fighter alone.)

There isn't much news about how well SSFIV is selling outside of Japan, but by my generous estimate it has sold roughly 500K by now.

In my wildest dreams Nintendo and WayForward partner to create awesome 2D Metroid games while Retro handles the 3D Metroid games... but other than WayForward, and maybe High Voltage (though SEGA practically owns them now), I can't think of any more US and European developers who would fit with Nintendo's philosophy. 5th Cell is too independent.

I expected this to happen. D: The situation in Japan is not conducive to selling expensive new game systems.

I pre-ordered the 3DS and Street Fighter on Amazon, which sort-of defeats the purpose of pre-ordering... :( It should arrive this Thursday.

As always, Nintendo prefers to innovate and change on their own terms. If Nintendo ever changes their tune, it's because they've came up with their own unique solution.

TalkBack / Re: Fanboyism, or Cutting off Your Nose to Spite Your Face
« on: February 26, 2011, 10:48:47 PM »
Crud, I ran out of popcorn. I guess I'll post something to take my mind off of my hunger. I bet it'll be a philosophical rant about the truth behind the ugly truth behind the video game industry.

In the industry as we know it good games don't matter since the term "good" is almost completely subjective. Sales hardly matter either since success is fleeting. Just ask Atari or Sega. My own personal preference matters to me, most definitely, but to the industry as a whole I am but one consumer among countless. I understand why we discuss quality, sales, and personal preference. We want to know if our favorite developer or publisher is doing well, we want to defend our interests, and we want to know that we are not alone in our convictions. Plus it can be fun. Kevin Butler can deliver a nice speech about how we need to embrace the bigger picture, insinuating that there should not be divisions among gamers, but many of us look at the bigger picture, ignore or fail to embrace its flaws, and we're suddenly back to arguing. Human nature, as it seems.
But what really matters in the grand scheme of things? What really shapes the industry and pushes it forward? Vision. People involved in the video game industry tend to have it. A creator's vision makes or breaks a game, since the perception of the vision determines the game's legacy.
I don't believe that there are good or bad games, just strong or weak visions. A truly revolutionary vision can spawn a beloved franchise that contributes much to how video games are designed. A vision could also be too different, failing to resonate with most. Sales are not necessarily a great judge of vision, however. Wii Play's vision was accepted so greatly because it came with a Wii Remote. While it made money, sales are fleeting, and Wii Play's legacy, unless it resonates with someone who can carry the torch, will not last. Critical acclaim is not a judge of vision either. Subjectivity denies absolution.
The only judge is the individual gamer. The only thing that matters in the long run is a legacy. A vision can create a legacy. Gamers and future creators can support the legacy.

What does any of this have to do with fanboyism? This isn't about who is screwing you out of your money or which game is better or what you like. This is a struggle against the cold, hard truth that nothing is permanent (though it can last for quite some time) and each company wants to stay relevant and continue making an impact. This is about relevancy, and since each one of these corporations by universal nature cannot exist forever, they strive to make as much of a difference as possible. The only war here is the Big 3 tripping over each other. Accept that everyone has a different means of staying relevant, realize that each of the Big 3 have already become relevant, and for the love of God try to coexist like Kevin Butler told us to.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What Nintendo franchise do you want most on 3DS?
« on: February 26, 2011, 08:54:42 PM »

I must concur with Tenser. StarTropics. For 3DS. I would freak out like I did when I heard about the Cave Story remake.
Also, WayForward making a 2D Metroid game... awesome idea, but it's never going to happen. A Shantae 3DS game, though, would be heaven on a freaking stick. Not a normal stick. A freaking stick.
I'm craving a 3D Child of Eden. Or Rez. Or something similar to those. That would be awesome.

I was going to make a list of every Nintendo franchise not yet represented by a 3DS release, but what I really one is a new F-Zero game. Also, a new Wave Race would be pretty fitting. Both would look awesome in 3D.
I'm hoping to see ports of Wii games, and by that I mean DKCR. A man can dream, right?

Ah, Pilotwings. I have some hope for this game, since Nintendo seems to understand that exploration is what made the original so awesome. I probably won't buy it though.
But if it was Wave Race Resort instead I would fork over the cash in a heartbeat. XD

Didn't pick up the DS on day 1, but you can be sure that I'll get myself a 3DS and Super Street Fighter IV 3D as soon as possible.

Thanks for the input! I have the Fire Claw and I pretty much follow that strategy for the first form, but I didn't use Staff of Ghent or Double Up at all. >_>
Hopefully when I'm done with the whole game I'll do a review. :)

Got the game a couple of days ago and I'm stuck at a certain epic boss battle with a brutal second form. I'm not looking forward to grinding for another hour.

How to Make the NGP:

1. Inject steroids into the PSP for near-PS3 graphical capabilities. Sure, it would make it fatter, but who cares about size anyway? Just look at the iPad!
2. Put a touchpad on the back. Why? Because Sony has a great track record with innovative gimmicks, as opposed to Nintendo.
3. PlayStation Network, because nobody would prefer to play CoD on their home console.
4. Market NGP games as bringing the home console experience to handhelds. That worked so well in the past.
5. Add a second thumbstick because of reasons that would take a whole other list to describe.
6. Pray that Nintendo doesn't release New Super Mario Bros. 3DS, Paper Mario 3D, and Mario Kart 3DS around your launch date.

As an ardent worshipper of the side-scrolling action/adventure sub-genre (known in some informal circles as "Metroidvania", since Metroid and Castlevania pioneered that gameplay style), I boldly proclaim "DO WANT!"

Get F-Zero GX.

What, you want more recommendations? Sorry, but I don't give that much advice for free.

It's a "what if" article. The majority of the criticism amounts to speculation, not known fact. I think the proper term for this is "fear mongering".

Nintendo Gaming / 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

Has anyone else here played what I consider to be the most unbelievably amazingly wonderfully awesome DS game ever? Or did you miss the chance to buy it since the game sold out in America? If you did play it, what was your favorite part?

O hai there internetz!

TGM here. I'm a Metroid fan and a firm believer in the power of aesthetics. Therefore, Metroid Prime is my favorite game and Retro Studios my favorite developer. (They have such a great underdog story...)
