I feel like Deluxe will have a hard time matching the sales pace or buzz of the original. There's some really good potential for ARMS though if Nintendo plays it right.

Deluxe sales will depend on how many people buying the Switch owned a Wii U.  If many of these Switch buyers are 3DS owners that skipped the Wii U then Deluxe sales should be huge considering it's been over a generation since Mario Kart 7 was released and that game sold better then Mario Kart 8.  And if it's attracting gamer's that haven't owned a Nintendo device since the Wii, it should be even greater considering how much of a monster Mario Kart Wii was.

Hey Enner am I reading these right, did Japan sell through +300k Switches with 'only' just over half of those customers also getting Zelda? Or are these sales to retailers?

I guess some people got theirs with 1-2 Switch, Dragon Quest Heroes, Bomberman or even Puyo Puyo Tetris instead? Would expect many people to get several games though, so did some just get Switches without games on them? Seems odd to me.

Wonder how these sales look in the West too, I've been seeing commercials for that Horizon Zero Dawn game e v e r y w h e r e so if they're this close in Japan, could that game top Zelda in its first week?

I believe, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, that Media Create numbers do not include eShop sales numbers so would explain the number of games sold being lower than you might expect.

Apparently, the Switch sold through 95% of its initial stock at launch in Japan according to the savvy folks at NeoGAF, so there shouldn't be worry if the numbers next week are way lower.

Theory/Rumor has it that a lot of Japanese are holding out hope for a Switch port of MonHun Double Cross. I will be holding out as well.

I'm surprised to see Monster Hunter XX come in that far below previous entries, but I think a considerable drop was expected. The writing is on the wall for everybody; not only is this not Monster Hunter 5, it's the second version of a game that already heavily leveraged older content from the series, on a console whose successor may have launched a few weeks ago. At this point, even Capcom is barely trying to hide the fact that they're already working on bringing the series to a new platform.

1-2 Switch well past the 100k mark seems pretty good to me? Also enjoy seeing Bomberman in these charts - I hope they can work something out to have him in the next Smash Bros. Not sure if 50k sales is good for the return of such a dormant franchise, but hey.

Also just a question but didn't Japan also have Disgaea 5 on launch for Switch? That hasn't been in any of these charts (yet), gotta assume they were hoping for more.

No new releases as Monster Hunter XX and the Nintendo Switch top the charts.

Imagine what would happen if Double Cross was ON the Switch! Its happening, just a matter of them getting those 3DS sales as well. The 3U release was staggered as well, with the 3DS title coming out in Japan close to a year or so before the Wii U version (and both versions in the West).

[Mop it up]

I would think they'd make another version of Monster Hunter for the Switch, especially if MHXX is selling below the average for the series. But I guess you never know.

I'm sure they will eventually. I'm just going by precedent (Wii U/3DS) as well as the comments, hints, and signs that Capcom/Devs have put out. And on the flip side, if it is selling less, putting it on Switch as an easy/quick port would help them eek some extra bucks out of the game. It took them a very short amount of time to get their game engine running on Switch, and the assets would easily port over too. It would also be an extra incentive for Westerners to "double-dip" if they bought Generations already, since we have been less receptive to MonHun's iterative nature.

A comparison of the Switch and PS4's first 7 weeks.



Switch and PS4 held steady the first two weeks, but Switch is outperforming PS4's pace since then. Granted, the PS4 was able to get out of that initial rut and is currently selling on average 20-30k per week. So it's a marathon, not a sprint.

The Switch is still in the "selling out as soon as they come in" stage which I think the PS4 got out of a couple of weeks into its Japanese life.

Also, we have NPDs for March. 1-2 Switch sold about 172k in the US, Bomberman did slightly less, and Skylanders on Switch got outsold by friggin' Binding of Isaac.
