It's obviously The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.
Ralph Bellamy was in an episode and he played King Phillip II of Spain in Fire Over England.
Robert Vaughn was also in an episode and he played FDR in FDR: That Man In The White House.
The "ancient game"is obviously the spy game. Spying goes WAY back.

Gawd, WAY too EASY!!
Yeah, I have no idea what this is

Bill Murray played FDR. Randy Quaid played King Carlos IV(King Charles IV) in Goya's Ghosts. Bowling is an ancient game. It is said early versions of bowling were played by the ancient Egyptians(and probably earlier). Surely as soon as there were balls and things to knock down there was bowling.  Also, ancient is relative. By today's standards ancient could be something 30 years old. The Flintstones bowled, and that was probably the least historically inaccurate thing on the show.

The Number 23.

Truman should be a reference to The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey.

I did not know Bill Murray was in Kingpin but I've never seen it. Still wouldn't have guessed that as an ancient game though if I did.

I think this is the answer too, but I'm submitting Owning Mahoney for a bonus (Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote and then an embezzling gambler).

Saving Private Ryan

The Martian works too

Edit: Now that I think about it Courage Under Fire and Interstellar do too.

Edit2: So does Green Zone. Damn Matt Damon gets rescued a lot, because I thought of more but couldn't remember a US angle.

Now the question is did Perm leave a trap or a typo? I'm trying to remember a movie where someone portrayed Matt Damon, hmmm...

this was a trick question both Martian and Saving Private Ryan counted. I can only award the 100 pts once. The rest are all 50 points.

but those other movies are extra points. There is still points to be had. You haven't named them all. It's like if I did a name that movie in which Mel Gibson gets tortured, or tortures someone.

Hmmm. Now that is interesting. Indiana Jones would be Harrison Ford. To my knowledge, there is no other actor to portray him unless it is a trick to include whoever played Young Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade movie. The funny thing about Ford is that despite being known for Han Solo and being associated with Sci-Fi because of it, he hasn't been in a lot of Sci-Fi movies. Although the description is vague enough that it could be one of the Star Wars movies, I can't recall any of the cast being in a Hamlet movie or playing Hamlet. Blade Runner has no plot of travelling to an alien space craft. The only other thing I can think of would be Cowboys & Aliens. I'm trying to think if Daniel Craig was ever Hamlet or if I'm forgetting someone in the cast. I know they went searching for the alien base but I can't recall now if that was actually a ship or not. I think it was and they were helping Olivia Munn's character take it back or something and she left with it in the end. I can't really remember the ending. The movie wasn't that good and forgettable as my memory is proving.

Guess I'll go it with and say Cowboys & Aliens.

Explorers - I admit I used IMDB a bit on this one. I figured the trick was River Phoenix in the Last Crusade. Given he died so young I thought it had to be one of his children's films, saw Explorers on the list, and knew Ethan Hawke was in it.

Second submission: Star Wars. Alec Guinness famously performed Hamlet in London's West End.

New Rule: I was not going to count stage plays, because it is difficult to verify. However, if you can point to one then you get 10 points. So far this has been a good run. This game is doable. When we get to the two week mark we'll start a Name that Movie II thread. Being that this is a first run, it is somewhat lame that I have to keep throwing up new rules. I'm sure by the end of the first run we'll have worked out the kinks.

I wouldn't normally have gone with theatre, but since Alec Guinness' Shakespearean roots are frequently mentioned in Star Wars coverage, I thought it might be a trick question.

well it was a trick question, everyone would automatically think about Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. So far we have used obfuscation, but we haven't gone too deep into aliases, and nicknames.
